Network Changes - Please report faults

Hi everyone

We have just upgraded the network to better deal with connection flooding. But a result of this may be that people with unusual settings or modules installed in their browsers designed to "accelerate" downloads may now have difficulty accessing the site.

If your browser tries to make too many connections to IB at once then it'll be treated as an attack and the excessive connections will be dropped by our firewall.

Browsers in standard configuration should have no problems. Even loading zillions of tabs at once in standard Firefox or IE or any other major browser should still only open 2 - 8 connections at once to our server and that's fine. It's the browsers we have seen opening 100+ simultaneous connections that will now be blocked.

If anyone notices images, thumbnails or pages not loading then please tell us. We don't want to block people who are browsing the site legitimately! There's a chance many people don't even realise their browsers are configured to open too many connections at once (and making lots and lots of connections at once to try and get web content faster is considered naughty and non-standard!). We'd love to hear from you so we can work out why your setup is doing that and how we can make IB work for you but keep blocking other malicious activity.

Thanks!

I'll keep an eye on it!  I'm one of those folks running highly tweaked and tuned browsers, but I tend to be a bit on the conservative side.  Per-server connections limited to 32, and persistent connections limited to 8.

Unfortunately, I see things over-tweaked all the time.  Having the opportunity to spend time working in a datacenter with a direct-fiber workstation connection over a multi-terabit connection, there are -still- limits to any performance gains.  The laws of physics come to mind...  XD

Most SOHO networking equipment can't handle more than 120 persistent connections at once, and even then, tend to get bogged down due to underwhelming processing power.

I'll keep an eye on things, and if I notice any slowdowns or odd loading behavior, I'll make a timestamped log of it, then adjust my connection settings and continue.  :-)

The only possible improvements now is hiring 8 different servers that all accept traffic that relay it to one central one to make 9 possible points of failure. :B

Well okay, there is an issue after all for me.

When i open the site after a while (fresh new tab, no second tab with it already open), it tends to load slowly, often even failing to load thumbnails. However, it suddenly loads everything normally after a few minutes until i decide to close the tab and load a new one later.

Known issue or my end? O=

This is probably unrelated, but on my Portal, everything that comes up says as a date, "NaN years, NaN months ago".

It's weird. How do I fix it?

since this update, the dropdowns in the tabs (account/post) have quit working proporly. the words are halved and the dropdowns go behind the rest of the page. sometimes restarting my computer will fix the problem, but only temporarily. i don't know if this is happening to anyone else, but please look into the problem.
