Lolwut with Payment- Responsibility

Okay so, per some drama with a coworker lol, not my drama. Their drama.

Now... See. When you lie about paying someone it's sort hard to get away with it electronically.
But people still do this. I've had a certain person try and tell me they paid me. They hadn't and I showed them my records. I had assumed they made a mistake but upon showing them those records they came clean about not paying me and worse, knowing they hadn't.
It was a while ago, and they're the reason I now do payment up front. I didn't lose anything, but I could have. And it made me paranoid. And that is an extreme example. Someone knowingly looking to rip me off.

Electronic payment clients like AlertPay, Paypal, and Dwolla keep records. So my fellow artisans and buyers. Please check your records.
Make sure you did actually pay. Or if you're on the artist end, make sure they paid you.
Be organized and keep track of this stuff.
Don't just send and receive without knowing what you're sending or what you're getting and who to/from. It's sort of like balancing your check book. Keep on top of it.

You don't look very bright when you screw up. And it makes people not want to work with you. And that can be terrible if it's all a misunderstanding.
Technology can make mistakes. Yep. It can.
So OUR responsibility as both buyers and artist is to communicate. 9 times of 10 issues between client and artist could have easily been avoided had both parties communicated. Unfortunately it always seems like one party does and the other doesn't. A lot of drama happens simply from miscommunication. if something happened, speak up. We are in business relationships.
We need to be professional in these relationships. And that means staying in contact. Offering others the same respect we would like to have given to us.

We can only expect that when it isn't granted, because we have either sacrificed our time or our money, people will assume the worst and take action.
Is it threatening? yes it can be. But remember that out in the world this is exactly what happens. You design a web page and send a business your invoice, if it goes unpaid, you threaten them with legal action.
And that can happen online too. No matter the amount if any of you want to make an example out of someone, talk to your lawyer lol. But normally, since the amount is small and not worth court fees, we have A_B.
And as much as I take issue with that with hunt of a place, it's all artist have in their arsenal. And it, unfortunately, does get stuff done. It also insights a lot of near unintelligible rants.
Which really take away your honesty cred, even if you're telling the truth.

So what do we take from this?
Be organized.
Be communicative.

We will all work better together if we do this.

Even if technology was perfect it's good to communicate with each other, it helps with buyers if they feel comfortable with the artist.

Should always be friendly and keep 'im updated, which may or may not be hard depending who you are. LOL

The drama that happened would have been ENTIRELY avoided had the other party just communicated. It's so sad. Instead they came in and started freaking out and going nuts. All you can do is sit back and shake your head xc

I haven't gotten so many commissions so I haven't really had any real problems apart from life preventing me from working. ha hah

No problems there. I always assume most people will never run into problems. :P

I'm a non-artist commissioner; over the past couple months I've had several active commissions in different states. Paid up front, prefer payment on delivery, sketch approved, ... it was all over the place. I made a spreadsheet that cross-references IB name, PayPal email and real name, Paid?, Recvd?, and even a link to the PM thread. And then I reconcile it against my bank account with Quicken. 'Cause, before I did that, I was looking at things going, "Wait, who was that for? Wait.. " and that was a bad state to be in.

I guess in the context of your post, this is an endorsement of organization ^^; .
