Sonic Mania Is A Glitchy Mess

Some didn't belive me when I mentioned the many glitches I encountered with the game, saying that I'm the only one who encountered these (I should have recorded myself but I didn't expect others to not to believe it) so here's a bit of proof https://youtu.be/nKfDxm-vkec I didn't enounter all these but a lot of them, however I encountered many other glitches, also why in the hell does Knuckles "glide" underwater?

To be fair, Knuckles DOES swim in Sonic Advance series, but then, the guys at SEGA will fix the issues with patches in the future.

Yeah I don't think this one will be fixed since according to the intro of Sonic Mania (and pretty much knowing Taxman and the guys behind the game with their over the top ego) only Sonic 1-3K are canon "along with Mania" so they believe Knuckles' gliding underwater in Sonic 3 wasn't a glitch or a limitation and niether the Advance titles nore the Adventure games happened, I hope I'm wrong and you're right, but I totally called that when the game was first announced, it's these things why I call this a "fan game" not the fact it's made by fans, it just kacks the polish Dimps used to put in Sonic titles.

Every program has glitches when it's first released no matter how hard you try to cover each eventuality - granted, the one with the Chemical Plant Act 2 Boss is quite bad because most people might hold right while zipping through a tube, and implies a lack of proper beta testing.  Some of these I hope will be fixed in a future patch, although some of them I hope will remain, since I would love to see them utilised as part of a speedrun!

To be fair the guy mentioned many glitches I haven't encountered but I also encountered many he didn't mention, overall I'm sure most of these glitches will be patched eventually but I was losing my mind upond some comments I recieved in youtube saying that the game did not have any glitches and that my copy of the game must be faulty, the fuck they're talking about?

Sounds like they were slightly fanatic fans of Sonic who refuse to accept that anything could be wrong.  I'm a programmer, and let me tell you, even the best developer makes mistakes, especially in such a complex project like Sonic Mania - there's bound to be a sequence they didn't anticipate.  The other issue is that when you're testing your own project, you generally know it inside and out, so when testing a level, for example, you play in a certain way and take the most optimal route or go for that extra life that no-one knows about or are able to time the Mirage Saloon guns perfectly to get the best launch angle, not considering that newcomers may instead take a less optimal route out of inexperience, one that may not be as thoroughly tested, if at all.  In other words, it's always best to get a fresh perspective.

That Knuckles glitch though... I'm amazed that wasn't picked up.

knuckles was always able to glide underwater.
and Mario can shoot fireballs underwater. game logic, dude. I mean, why can Knuckles glide AT ALL??

And yeah, there are bugs here & there, but the game is by no means a mess! I've been all over this game by now, and while there are the occasional graphical bugs, music errors, and that one blue sphere miscount, there's nothing game-breaking (that I've found) nor are these bugs all that frequent. Heck, I think I went all through Knuckles's game without any bugs at all.

This, the game may not be a "mess" but these glitches DO exist, I was losing my mind because I recieved comments on youtube that my copy of the game must be faulty or that I'm lying because I'm "the only one who encountered glitches" in this "perfect game".

As for Knuckles gliding he only did that in Sonic 3 (and Sonic 3 only since Sonic & Knuckles did not have any underwater segments) it's especially weird for me because I grew up with each game seperately and I got to play both Sonic Adventure 2 and Sonic Advance before I even knew of such a thing called Sonic 3 and Knuckles, problem is I'm pretty sure the underwater gliding thing was somekind of a limitation because ever since then SEGA fixed that but my issue is that Taxman doesn't care if it wasn't in Sonic 1-3K it never happened I mean the animated intro clearly states that only Sonic 1-3K + Mania are canon, it's these things that make me call this a fan game not the fact it was made by fans really, it feels exactely like a cheap hack that didn't even bother to draw a swiming animation for Knuckles.

It says those games in the intro because it's set after those games. Knuckles never swam in those games. Anyway, it keeps his gameplay consistent if he doesn't swim. Tails gets to swim because it's basically the same as his flight ability.
Anyway, if you were deep enough in the water, Knuckles could "glide" in the Advance games, too. It was just Adventure 2 where he really swam.

I'm not saying the game is perfect nor am I claiming not to have experienced any bugs, but it's not enough for me to get angry over.

I'll get my review out sooner or later, and I'll cover my own positives and negatives about the game there. I...don't feel like typing the same thing twice, basically :/

Also, if you finished the game, you'd know more Classic era titles are part of its canon than just those 4. CD and Fighters are referenced pretty well, not to mention Mean Bean Machine XD

Well it did JUST come out so of course there's gonna be glitches dude, kind of a given with new games nowadays lol.

That's not the issue and I'm sure most of these glitches will be patched out but I was losing my mind for the past couple of days of some comments on yourube stating that the game is glitch free and that my copy of the game must be faulty or I'm just lying about them, I really should have taken videos, I just didn't expect people to not believe me :/

Some people don't get glitches when they play, some do... Like for an example people say the 360 version of Sonic 06 is glitchy af but when I played it I only encountered a small handful of glitches. So I guess what I'm trying to say is everyone's gaming experience is gonna be different with one game sometimes. XD

Actually I felt the Xbox 360 version of Sonic '06 was the more glitchy version, with that said I'm one of the lucky ones who didn't encounter as many glitches with this game as others did, I did encounter a hell lot of glitches in Sonic Unleashed but again the Xbox 360 version was the glitchier one (despite the fact it was also the better one with more polish which is odd) but that's just me.

Anyway I feel most people went for the Switch version which may have different glitches than the PS4 version.

Either way no matter what game you get, and no matter what others say about a game. It doesn't necessarily mean you'll have a glitch free game experience like the people that said it was and that's why you shouldn't take some of the feedback seriously. Because obviously whether or not a game is truly glitch free someone is bound to run into at least one or two.

I have the switch version of the game and haven't had any issues with it. Least not yet.

Is it that the Switch version has less issues than the PS4? Much like Puyo Puyo it appears most people online went for the Switch version (which makes sense for a portable option, I just had to preorder the PS4 version instead because it wasn't available on the Switch until it was released which I didn't have the money at the time) but even then there's noway the game would be so broken on PS4 yet nowhere near as bad on the Switch.

I really don't know. Like you said, I got it for the portability factor.

is it like the 2006 game i've heard of?
sonictopfan

No it's not that bad, in fact I may have exaggerated due to the fact my first couple of runs were unluckily glitchy, as I learned how to avoid glitches it didn't glitch that often with me, not sure why.

But yeah the game has a lot of glitches and it's mostly rehashed levels, it's an okay game but in my book I much prefer Sonic 3 personally.
