Yeah but this is mostly Sega decision. They want to make Sonic into a brand character. So they want full control of him and Archie didn't want to deal with more rules and guidelines to their already choke universe they just created.
And for someone who been collecting every issue for years now it sad to see it go. But it not like it gone forever, they are many fans out there (including here) that'll keep the spirit of the comic alive in more ways then one.
