Well, 2 is a story continuation of 1, although both have you bouncing through the timelines with a similar style of progression through the show's eras. 2 is also set up to where you dont NEED to of played 1 to enjoy it, but if you can get both on sale then why not.

If I recall, XV2 has XV1's protagonist as an extra character, because the new protagonist is going back to many of the same places in time and space and therefore meeting up with them.
