It's never fun dealing with this kind of stuff, been there myself. But once it's done, you should be feeling better and getting back to arting once again.

I've had about 7 reconstructive surgeries after a rather bad accident that nearly cost me my leg. I can tell you this. Surgery is a lot better now than it used to be, trust the doctors, follow their instructions to the letter.
Also, You'll be fine.

My surgery doesn't compare to what you went through. I just have 3 hernias. Like everyone says, it's not so much the surgery that bothers me. It's the RECOVERY omg... ;_;

Recovery is definitely one of the worst parts as far as pain and frustration goes. For me, the worst part was being bed ridden for a couple of months. Here's how my experience was.
1st surgery:
My first surgery was a failure. They tried to do an external set but couldn't get the bones positioned right. They put me in a conscious sedation. I was awake but didn't have any pain. I apparently renamed a doctor to Nurse Ratchet. I don't remember. I was under for about an hour or two before they brought me out. They told me that it failed and that they'd have to cut on me.
2nd Surgery:
Second was intense. It was the next day and they rolled me into the OR at about 7am. They gave me something in my IV. I could taste it and it made me feel like I peed myself. Next thing I know I'm back in my hospital room with my leg in a fixator harness with rods sticking out of me and it's night. Every little movement hurt. I couldn't NOT move. I lived off of painkillers for 3 days before I was able to cycle off of them.
3rd:
Pretty much the same as the second except that they removed the harness and did some minor cutting. Here I learned that Taco Bell is the best cure for the constipation caused by pain killers.
4th:
Had some major bone reshaping in this one. Rolled in at 7am, out at noon. By this time I've learned how to be still. I mean truely still. Not just "Not moving". I mean where my muscles aren't doing a damned thing. Much less painful.
5th:
Same as above
6th:
I had a new doctor in a new hospital. He did some major cutting and grinding on me. Took him 12 hours straight to finish. I was off of pain meds that night. Being still really helps.
7th:
Minor reshaping of my foot. Took three hours. I never took pain meds and got in trouble for trying to drive myself home that afternoon.

The worst part for me was the feeling of the walls closing in. I've never been one to lay in bed and do nothing all day. Not being able to leave my house was torturous. During all of this is when I started watching anime more to just forget myself for a while than anything else.
For now on, I live my life expecting my next step will cause me to lose my leg. If I ever twist my ankle or roll my foot. My foot gets amputated.

I hope your surgery goes well and that you have an easier time of it.

I had major surgery last year (thoracotomy) and the surgery was the easiest part.  They gave me some drugs and the next thing I knew I was back in my hospital room with a bunch more tubes coming out of me.
