A very depressing store.

by
I went to a Radio Shack today. One that's going out of business. 60% to 80% off the whole store, and even the register terminals had pricetags.

And bizarrely festive red and white balloons all over the store. The one employee said corporate mandated the balloons for closings. Oookay.

I bought a 555 timer IC and some AA batteries for old times sake.

That's just kind of bizarre. The store is closing, all of the employees are most likely going to lose their jobs, unless they might move some of the managers to other locations. But hey, bright, cheery balloons like it's a party! Someone at the Radio Shack head office must have a warped sense of humor.

According to the dude, they were told 'Balloons are happiness, happiness is profit!'

He obviously thought that was as stupid as I did. It just made for a weird 'party distopia' atmosphere.

I'm surprised RS is still around.  They sold all their stores off up here in Canada.

They never should have gone away from the electronic component side.
They went to mostly cellphone crap and very little electronics stuff and that is what did it in for Radio Shack.
I heard that all the corporate RS are closing but I guess there are indipendent RS's that will stay open.

A few locations are being converted to Sprint stores. All the Radio Shacks will be gone 5/31.

we had 2 radioshacks in our area. i used to go there for batteries and project parts and robotics stuff. out lone RS still has some robotics kits, like the huuuuge blue aluminum one with tracks and the grabber, have 2 of those for 80% off.....wish i could get those. sears is going out of business in my local mall, macy's is rumored to be closing there too..if that happens, our mall looses 2 out of its 3 anchor stores...then mall death.......sad time for retail.
