Allowing Windows Update...

FUCKING NEVER AGAIN.

After several hours of stress, failing restore points and contemplating a factory (losing absolutely everything on this machine) , I finally got my PC back to what it was before windows update fucked it to hell.

The next time someone insists I should run windows update for any reason, I will punch them dead in the face.

FUCK.

You SHOULD keep your windows updated though, there's a new ransomware going around that takes advantages of backdoors that the newest updates fix

That's the reason I attempted to update.  however it doesn't do me any good if the update renders my PC unusable.

What windows are you on by the way? Cause i updated my windows 8.1 yesterday and have had no issues whatsoever so far besides a little slower boot

Windows 7 on this PC.

10 is the one i most often hear has update issues. Like i said i'm on 8.1 and i haven't had many issues. Makes me wonder if they are purposefully fucking up Win 7 updates to get people to update to 10

Wouldn't surprise me. It's only a matter of time before updates for 7 cease entirely. Even Windows 8 and 8.1 will suffer before long. Microsoft is desperate to become the big brother of computer companies.

Oh i know, they already announced that they will stop supporting 7 i think at the end of this year, no announcements made for 8 though. At least i managed to stop my PC from auto updating to 10

Right. Just got to look carefully at the updates Microsoft is pushing to make sure there's nothing inside like a free upgrade to Windows 10. Microsoft is getting too sleazy and invasive for my tastes.

I know, i watch a Youtube channel run by a former Microsoft employee and he's been pretty good at detecting all those invasie strategies

it depends on your system, but fuck yeah, fuck it. updating windows is like putting a gun to it and playing russian roulette.

I always find it sickly but amusing how Microsoft manages to completely fuck up something as simple and well-known to them as updating software.

That isn't surprise when we know how crappy Windows is compared to Linux.

It sounds like an update package got corrupted, but it attempted to install anyway. Sucks. :c

If ransomware  is your worry i would ensure you have some of anti-virus/ anti-malware on your system,  Sophos has a free version (there is no actual difference in versions) of there business class software https://home.sophos.com/ I use this myself, have not seen any performance hit to my system.

I have seen this puppy catch ransomware with in the first 5 files where others don't even click in till its way to late.  I was at a live demo for this and talked to the sophos guys.

Also If you need an IT person to poke your system with a stick PM me.

Thats why I'm afraid of updating my windows at the moment. My current system is just this old ass laptop that's about to hit the double digits in age. If this thing bricks, I'm boned.

Get a new laptop or at least switch to Linux, outdated Windows is really dangerous.

I'm planning to upgrade to a desktop sometime in the future but that'll be when I have more cash in hand. Definately before the end of this year. Until then, I don't have much of a choice and I'm not confident enough to mess with my OS and switch and learn Linux.

Microsoft has a standalone update for that particular update, provided of course that their website will actually allow you to download it (it didn't when I tried it yesterday, kept throwing errors in my face).  I love how they say it's such an urgent update but make it almost impossible to actually acquire the damn thing.

Also, I haven't used Windows Update itself in several years now because M$ broke Win7's version some time back, right about the same time that 10 came out.

A lot of issues arise when you attempt to apply updates after having it turned off for a while. I keep my updates on all the time and that prevents the backlog bugs from popping up.

You should allow it because outdated Windows is really vulnerable and therefore huge security risk. I recommend to consider switching to Linux, e.g. Ubuntu is good for beginners. Ubuntu's update manager is a way better than Windows Update because it updates the installed software as well so you don't need to update every software separately.

Learn to use drive images as backup, they're better than restore points.

These days Windows like apple will force an update if your system is connected to the internet anyway. The all honesty I am considering factory resetting my computer it's a Windows 7 model about ten eleven years old now kept update an upgrade it to the best of my ability but it won't last forever no matter how good I think I am.

this is how i deal with updates.  and i dont have problems.   one do not update the new ones till several months have past and any problems have been shaken out by others. only do like 5 or 6 at a time after creating a restore point . use the computer after for a day or so before attempting other updates. that gives you an easier time in finding the incompatiable update if there is one. if you update 80 at a time then finding the rouge one is terribly hard.

long live windows 7, well really XP ...  i refuse to move to 8 or 10 or anything that is partially cloudbased , its coming people, and or has protected system files.

i'm gonna move to linux i think

I recall the Feb 2013 update fucking up the Win8 computers.  They forced an update for the tablet OS on the Desk/laptops, which doesn't have half of what was getting updated for the RT version of the OS.   It caused computers to constantly bluescreen and restart.  I had to remove and block that update.

I swear every time I get that notice that I need to update windows I gotta figure out what the hell they broke. This last update brought back a bug that I had with Windows 7 that whenever I close my laptop the screen will be black when I open it back up. I know I just have to plug and unplug an HDMI cable into it to bring back the screen, but everything was just fine before the update.

Oh we have this new mail service app that is shite, but we're going to force it down everyone's throat because we want you to use our vulnerable programs over our competitors safer programs. Oh and let's reset everything on what applications I use to open files to our applications. Fuck you Microsoft I just want an OS that will let me do my art and play games. Next thing you know they'll start putting ads up everywhere *looks at the start menu* FUCK!

Oh and I've had what you've had happen after an update as well. I feel your pain with all of that system restore crap, I actually have had to reset my computer 3 or so times since I got it 6 years ago cause I run into issues like that.
