The image makes it pretty clear that that's not the WHOLE reason they're getting rid of the Archie Sonic comics. Another part of it is Sega wanting more money from Archie Comics in order to keep the series going. Sega's getting greedy, basically, and the people at Archie aren't willing to shell out the extra dosh just to keep it up, among several other reasons.

To be fair, Sega has every right to want its licensing. and Ken Penders has been kind of a dick, causing legal troubles to where Sonic characters in-game couldn't be used in relationships (much to Sega's wishes) or that they weren't allowed to use the Freedom fighter characters in games. There was a huge legal dispute for the longest where Sega was trying to get their license back from Archie concerning the canon's story (if they had won, they likely would have been able to freely use their entire IP there.
