Sonic Boom Review for 04/22/2017

Well, this week's episode was sure filled with WTF moments. Although this one was clever. Not entirely enjoyable, but it wasn't bad either. But, man, this was all kinds of crazy!

With that said, here's my review of the latest episode of Sonic Boom, which aired on April 22nd, 2017.

"Eggman's Brother"

The episode starts at the beach where the team relaxed. Eggman approaches Sonic, complaining that he took his spot. Sonic protested that no one was here when picked said spot, to which Eggman replied that he left to get a slice of pizza and ice water and left his scorpion bot to hold his spot. (Maybe Eggman should stop leaving his robots to hold spots for him. They're small and make no noise.) Eggman then tells his robot there's only one way it can make this up to him, and it offers him a grape soda. XD Eggman orders it to attack them. The gang gets out of the way of its fireball attack as Crabmeats come up from the sand. Sonic easily took out 2 of the crab robots. Then Sonic destroys the rest of the robots before Amy, Knuckles, Tails & Sticks could even strike them! Then Sonic quickly buries Eggman in a sand hill. Sonic celebrates the latest victory, but his friends were not in the mood, since Sonic basically (hedge)hogged the battle all to himself. When Amy comments that they're supposed to be a team, Sonic replied that sometimes it's more efficient for him to do things himself. (Is that the same mentality the game developers have?) Later, at Eggman's base, as he grumbled like Yosemite Sam, Eggman changed out of his bathing suit, complaining that he got sand in every crevice. (Ugh, TMI...) Suddenly, the doorbell rings. Once dressed in his usual attire, he answered it and... there was someone who looked like him at the door, only in a blue version of his attire, has blonde hair on his head, and spoke like a 90's surfer. Cubot: "Oh, no! There's two of 'em! Which one do I shoot?" XD The blonde haired stranger claimed to be the doctor's long lost brother, Steve Eggman. As Steve looked around inside Eggman's lair, Eggman was skeptical about this, but said he couldn't be bother with this as he tries to hatch another scheme to destroy Team Sonic. Steve then says he could help and that he has special abilities that may come in handy. However, Eggman realized that there was only two ways this could go: either he's a fake and can't be trusted or he actually IS his brother and DEFINITELY can't be trusted! XD With that, Eggman shoves Steve out as Steve proclaimed the he's making a huge mistake and he'll prove it to him. The next day, we see Sonic on a park bench reading a book when he sees Steve walk by. Sonic thought it was Eggman wearing the worst disguise in history. Suddenly, the real Eggman arrives with a large blue robot. He was about to attack Sonic, but got distracted by the appearance of his possible brother and argued with him, which soon broke out in a slap fight between the two. (Okay, that's the strangest thing I've seen yet...) Eggman soon pushed Steve away and focused back on Sonic. As the robot started to fire its lasers, Sonic easily dodged it and spin attacked its chest. The robot still stands as it fired a freeze blast at Sonic's feet, freezing them to the ground. Steve quickly grabs a rock and breaks the ice, freeing Sonic's feet. After thanking Steve, Sonic triple spin attacks it and decapitates it. Eggman retreats, proclaiming that he knew he couldn't trust Steve. Later, at Meh Burger, Sonic tells his friends about Steve and how he rescued him from Eggman's robot. Suddenly, we see Steve wearing... the most ridiculous superhero costume I've ever seen! https://twitter.com/BillFreiberger/status/8555944529239... (That outfit is now the strangest thing I've ever seen...) Sonic then tells his friends that Steve would be joining the team. Once again, his friends didn't appreciate his rash behavior, as Knuckles said he doesn't trust him (since he reminds him of someone, but he can't figure out who. XD ) while Amy said Sonic should have consulted them before making this decision. Suddenly a large explosion was heard as Tails' device pinpointed its origin. A volcano erupted outside of town. The gang races to where the lava flowed where we see the Golgaba tribe stranded on a rock, surrounded by the flowing lava. https://twitter.com/AngelCam7/status/856381274088517632 XD Sonic soon arrived on Blue Force One and hovered over the lava and rescued one of the Golgabas. Steve then fired a laser which cuts down a tree, creating a makeshift bridge to help the rest of the Golgabas to safety. Sonic gave props to Steve as he... runs around, pretending to fly. (Jeez... So many strange scenes in this episode...) The next day, as Sonic, Knuckles, & Sticks walked through the village, the store owner accuses Knux of breaking into his store and devoured his vegetables. Knuckles says that's impossible since he doesn't even eat vegetables. (I believe him there.) Then another shopkeeper claims Knuckles stole half the merchandise from his glue store. To which Knuckles says he doesn't even eat glue. (That... I'm 50-50 on believing, honestly. :D ) Then, Sticks says that there are too many allegations around Knux for her taste. After saying where there's smoke, there's fire, she suggests cutting Knuckles loose. Sonic disagrees, saying Knux would never do any of those things, and thinks Sticks is talking crazy, and not the funny kind of crazy, either. However, Knuckles agrees and decides to go camping outside of town until this all blows over. As Knux leaves, Sonic was left befuddled as Sticks runs off. She soon spins... and turns into Steve?! (What the?!) Soon, at Sonic's Shack, Sonic tells Amy & Steve what had happened to Knuckles when Sticks wondered what the heck happened, hearing Knux went into exile. Sonic said that Sticks was the one who said that they should cut Knux loose in the first place, saying the "Where there's smoke, there's fire" line. Sticks then says that it wasn't true, especially since there could be more reasons for smoke: Chemical reactions, smoke bombs, liquid smoke, and steam can be confused for smoke in some cases. As Sticks was explaining this, Steve runs off. Few seconds later, Tails appears, saying he couldn't believe Sticks, for first forcing his friend out of town, and now talking about smoke bombs. He then tells her he submitted her to a government watch list. This causes Sticks to panic and retreat to her burrow, probably to burn some documents. Amy was confused as to why Tails would say such a thing, since that's so unlike him. Tails then says that he's been a bit on edge lately and that he could really use someone to talk to about his feelings. (Hoo, boy...) Amy leads Tails to the woods to give him a therapy session... until Tails dumps a bucket of glue on her, sticking her to the ground! A spin cycle from Tails reveals him to be Steve! He tells her that he plans on destroying Sonic & company and can't have her blowing his cover! He then turns himself into Amy! (What The What The What The What?!) Sonic was seen sitting on the stoop of his shack when "Amy" approaches him, telling him that Tails thinks Sonic's running the team into the ground and she agrees. Sonic then says that he can sometimes jump in and does things himself, but they're a team, they're friends. "Amy" just asks if they really are and leaves, leaving Sonic a bit depressed. Steve then turns into Sonic! (Okay, I'm getting that uneasy feeling in my gut again...) Soon, at Tails' Workshop, as Tails was working on one of his devices, "Sonic" comes in and tells him that things have gotten pretty crazy and thinks that it's probably best that they take a break from working together. Tails disagrees, saying he'll never stop fighting by his side, but "Sonic" says his mind's made up. Tails complains that he thinks he can make decisions for all of us and says that maybe he's right and leaves. As soon as Tails leaves, a knock on the front door was heard as Steve turns into Tails and opens it. It was Sonic, apologizing for his jerky attitude and just wanted to make sure his best bud still has his back. "Tails" simply tells him that he brought this on himself and closes the door on him. Back at Eggman's base, we see Steve knocking on the door once more. Eggman answers it and Steve tells him that he's not really his brother after all! He's actually a robot named Morpho from another dimension! (That would explain the crazy transformations...) https://twitter.com/AngelCam7/status/856381956459823104 Morpho explains that the dimension he came from was destroyed by his creator. Eggman: "He sounds like a real dunce." Morpho: "I was created by Dr. Eggman." Eggman: "A loveable dunce..." XD (And that explains why he looks like a blonde-haired Dr. Eggman. Freakin' egomaniac. XD So... I heard that the comic series had tons of different dimensions, but ended up being destroyed... Think this Morpho dude came from one of those destroyed dimensions?) Morpho then explained that to prove his worth to Eggman, he infiltrated the team, gained their trust, then drove them apart, leaving Sonic alone and filled with self-doubt. Later, Eggman & Morpho, lead a team of badniks to attack the village. Sonic arrived to put a stop to it and was stunned to see "Steve" with Eggman. After Morpho & Eggman bragged about their plan, leaving Sonic all alone, Sonic spin attacked towards them, only for a mantis bot to take the hit. Once he lands, Sonic gets floored by Burnbot and finds himself surrounded. Sonic tries to spin attack several bettle bots, but they flew out of his reach. Thing looked bad... until Tails, Knuckles, Amy, and Sticks joined in! As Knuckles smashed through several beetle bots, Tails, decapitating a mantis bot, knew Sonic would never give up on the team, no matter how bad things got, which caused him to figure out what was going on. Amy, while bashing in robots with her hammer, explained that Tails was able to use the tracking device in her communicator to find and free her from the glue trap as she explained to Tails about Steve/Morpho and his shapeshifting abilities. Knuckles, delivering the final blow to Burnbot, says next thing you know, the team's back together again. Once all the robots were destroyed, Sonic delivers a devastating spin attack to Eggman's Egg Mobile, sending Eggman and Morpho flying as the team celebrates their victory! In the outskirts of town, we see the Egg Mobile crash down. As Morpho said that his plan wasn't as good as he thought, Eggman disagreed, saying that with a plan so needlessly complicated and convoluted as that one, he kind of wished he was his brother. Morpho appreciated the compliment. With the Egg Mobile trashed, Eggman wondered how they would get back to his base. Morpho then turned into a pogo stick as Eggman rode off. (Okay... THAT is officially the weirdest thing I've ever seen...)

Well, this episode... a shapeshifting robot. That's dangerous in itself, and seeing that it hasn't been destroyed, there's no telling what kind of mayhem it can do in future episodes... I just hope the gang figures out some way to tell ally from robot with a surfer accent. Seriously, though, anyone else thought the surfer talk was weird? I mean, no matter what dimension, Eggman's IQ must be questioned. I mean, a shapeshifting robot and you give it a 90's surfer voice? Well, either way, this episode wasn't as enjoyable as "Nominatus Rises", but, story wise, it did provide dramatic suspense and the fact that Eggman now has a shapeshifting robot on his team makes things even more unpredictable.

Well, I look forward to the next episode... if I didn't have to work on Saturday... I freakin' hate working on Saturday night!

I can see the logic behind the dude-bro surfer voice.  I mean, would you accuse a dude bro of nefarious plots?  You might not even think he's smart enough to be an evil mastermind.

Huh... Guess I didn't think of that... Clever...

BTW, if you didn't get the joke in my Twitter post from the scene where Morpho shows off his transformations to Eggman, the characters are all voiced by Roger Craig Smith, even the moose. XD
