Posting to E621?

So someone on Facebook told me since some ppl dont have an FA I should post my art on E621 so ppl without an FA can see the link! But, is that okay???

Back when I was on wildcritters.ws a long time ago before I even did digital art someone told me about how posting your own art was frowned upon and for someone else to post your art was more an honor to an artist!

Is it worth it and should I do that? ^^;

I say just do it. Who cares what others say or think, honestly. Exposure is exposure. The more traffic to your gallery, the more muns you can make in commissions and stuff

People on e621 post their own content all the time, some because they don't have accounts anywhere else

You make a really good point!

The only thing I'll say about that, is some people post really mean / distasteful comments on e621. So either ignore them, have a thick skin before you start posting there.

Well so far from ppl that have posted my art I havent seen 100% bad comments on it more towards neutral in some cases ^^; But I believe you! Ive seen some harsh things on there ^^;

That is the last remnant of the "old e621" - that it is a free comment zone. And even that is under attack. Personally I think it has lost its place as a venue for harsh criticism - other imageboards such as Lulz.net now take that mantle.

tbh i think people would be more happy seeing more art on their not caring who uploaded it, besides nothing to stop people from having different usernames that posted their own art :p

true! But it would be weird seeing as you only post one artist work up if they check your profile! lol I mean Id post others but Im afraid to because it could have been posted already ^^; And Im not sure if that would be an issue ^^;

Like BunnyFoxglove said, the comments can be downright toxic sometimes. But some people post their own art there, and honestly I would've never ended up on IB if I hadn't things posted on e621.
It's your choice, either way, but if you want to do so, go for it!~

I know what you're talking about and long ago it was sort of a foolish notion that Artist should only post their art in one place, then only if they are good enough that would that piece of art be taken to another site.  Sadly this was rather stupid because it left others to decide what they liked rather than let everyone decide.  Also since the mass back then were simply lurkers it left artwork often looked at but never shared because there was no spotlight (Faves, likes, that sort of thing) and there was no comments left behind to encourage the artist to do more.

Post your art where and when you choose if you wish to make it available.  Sites like 4chan and some others where that notion sprung up are really outdated much like FA is.   I truly wish there were more sites where all kinds of art could be displayed with out making people fret over whether or not to post.

Also as stated don't bother with the comments added on unless you're willing to take the context they come in.  E621 doesn't have a profile on you, doesn't really allow anyone to do much more than look at what you've done and compare it to their personal standards.  So the real thing is let yourself have fun and see where it goes, also since your considering it I'm guessing the facebook users are at least slightly important so I'd say try.

It's perfectly fine to post your own art on e621, as long as you follow tagging procedure I don't think they care :3! It is nice if someone else posts your art, but sometimes showing off your own is needed >:3!

I guess you got a point! ^w^ Honestly everyone is so nice on IB ;u; I wish ppl were more accepting outside of IB ;w;

Wait why would posting your own art to e621 have been frowned upon in the first place? O.o

Catprowler pretty much says exactly why ^^; Back then it was just not seen as a positive thing because it wasnt normal and it seemed like you are just posting for shallow popularity or ego reasons ^^; Which honestly really is the wrong way to look at things because the reasons just like catprowler said! Art should be shared with others otherwise why even draw if you cant share it with others? :c But I'm not sure how much that has changed on sites liked that so I was questioning it ^^;

Oh I misread his comment earlier. I'm pretty sure many other artists do it today though, and haven't really heard about anyone complaining. Mainly I only ever hear about people leaking patreon content. I doubt this ranks up there in controversy.

e621 started as a place for a community of furries to share images which they felt were "the best". Many artists have an inflated sense of their own worth, and so not a reliable source for determining the value of their work. Even if much of what they do is objectively of a high quality, not all of it is - and regardless, some feel it is not right to push yourself forward in such a manner.

It's kinda like writing your own WikiFur article. Many people want others to do it, rather than themselves, because it acts as an validation that they are "worth" writing about. (Of course the risk there is that everyone is just too busy to do so and never bothers, even if there would be value to it.)

In both cases there is also the concern that giving the subject control over the content which is provided is inappropriate. Both sites have over time given some control in this area, although for WikiFur it is basically all or nothing (and I think that is the right decision for that venue - a biased article is worse than no article at all).

On e621 you might nowadays say "nothing in my for-sale portfolios should be posted" - and that would be accepted now, where in the past it might have been grudgingly done after you threatened a lawsuit and talked to their provider, and they would probably have taken everything else of yours down and given you an IP ban for good measure.

e621 has evolved from a site which was almost antagonistic towards artists and their copyright, to one which acts far more in partnership with them. In doing so, it has become more popular - by traffic, it is the second-busiest site dedicated to furry fandom, after FA - but also lost something of what it was.

Ah that's an interesting evolution. I wonder if there's an e621 equivalent for murrsuits..

E621 allows artists to post their own work, and all submissions are subject to moderator approval.  Depending upon how busy they are with real life issues and other things it could take upwards of two weeks for them to approve or deny the submission, but the staff there is pretty professional.  A lot of users don't like folks uploading their own art, I upload mine to e6 and I've gotten frowned upon for it and harassed, but usually the people who do that kind of thing are the troublemaking sorts who tend to get kicked out before very long.

Oh I see! Well thats good at least that they are the troublemakers that get kicked lol But that is exactly also what I was worried about but I guess I shouldn't care about the troublemakers ^^; Not like I would be doing something bad by posting lol

Okay... First, I know the internet doesn't always work the way I sometimes think it should. But, my humble (or maybe not so much) opinion...

Bottom line, it's YOUR art. You created it and you should have full control over where and how it is displayed. I think other people posting stuff that isn't theirs to sites like e621 is sort of offensive. By doing so, they are (whether intentionally or not) taking credit for art that wasn't theirs in the first place.

That said, I kind of like e621. It's a nice place where you don't have to have an account and can look at anything on the site without ever seeing a log in screen. But, that also means that everything posted there is open to anyone.

But how are they taking credit when they tag the artist and link to where they got it? ^^;But I would see it being a problem if the artist doesnt want their art spread ^^;
