Sonic Boom Review for 04/15/2017

This week's episode... So many funny stuff! So many awesome stuff! So many references! So many meme-able stuff! And the return of a Season 1 villain that really gave the characters a run for their money. Simply put: I loved damn near everything about this episode!

So, with that said, here's my review on the latest episode of Sonic Boom, which aired on April 15th, 2017.

"Nominatus Rises" (Yup, the antagonist known as Nominatus is in this episode, and it doesn't have a dumb title, either. :D )

The episode starts in Tails' Workshop as Tails shows his friends his latest contribution to the scientific community... a large 3D printing machine known as his Build-It Box. When Sonic points this out, Tails says he's made one crucial improvement as he shows them his laptop with the video game character, Ms. Tomatopotamus, on the screen. Knuckles: "The game that shattered gender archetypes by putting a little red bow on the pre-existing design." Ha! Pac-Man reference! XD Tails activates a special function and, with his laptop connected to his Build-It Box, a blinding flash, and music that sounds like "Weird Science" (with the movie plot to match. XD ), he brings Ms. Tomatopotamus in his Workshop, fully alive! Tails explains that his new upgrade to his Build-It Box can allow him to materialize 3-Dimensional manifestations of characters from video games. (Whoa! Tails has just achieved the dream of damn near every gamers' vivid imaginations!) https://twitter.com/AngelCam7/status/853607825460920321 So... A Princess Peach reference AND a Sonic '06 reference in one fell swooping joke! Genius! XD Knuckles notices that Ms. Tomatopotamus looks smaller than he thought, to which Tails explains he added a file-size throttle to his device. Knux tries to pet her only to get a tomato to the face. The tiny tomato-spitting hippo then ran around Tails' Workshop while the gang tries to catch her. All the while, they were being spied on by Eggman's fly bot. Once again upset that the focus isn't on him, he leaves to stage an attack on the village. As he left, however, something was watching. Hidden within the computer system of Eggman's lair was the virus villain known as Nominatus, who, if fans remember, tried to manifest his own takeover back in Season 1 by infecting Eggman's robots and using them to attack him and everyone else, only to be thwarted by, of all people, Orbot & Cubot. Originally believed to have been overloaded with idiotic information and destroyed, he seems to have made a backup copy of himself and plotted his revenge. Seeing Tails' new invention gives him the opportunity he seeks. Back at Tails' Workshop, the gang were still having trouble catching the tiny hippo as she spit up a tomato, tripping up Sonic. Knuckles tried to get her, only to crash into a wall. Tails tries to use his ener-beam to lasso her, but ends up lassoing up Amy & Sticks. :D Finally, Ms. Tomatopotamus went up to Knuckles, licked his face and napped in his lap. Suddenly, the alarm goes off as Mayor Fink contacts the gang through Tails' laptop, alerting them that Eggman was attacking the village again. Soon, Sonic and friends, along with Ms. Tomatopotamus, left to deal with the Eggman attack. Once they leave, this was Nominatus' chance as he, along with his own digital henchmen, Retro & Beta, made their way through the digital cloud to Tails' laptop. He then activates the Build-It Box and was soon materialized in the real world... but with one small problem... http://fav.me/db63voi Turns out, due to Tails' file-size throttle function, the despicable digital despot was no bigger than an ant! XD Realizing this, Nominatus plans to reach Tails' laptop and disable the throttle, scaling them up to their normal size. Of course, with their miniaturized state, that becomes an expedition (complete with Lawrence of Arabia style music. XD ). Meanwhile, Team Sonic once again defeats Eggman's robots. Eggman then leaves, wondering why spy on Sonic when he gets nothing out of it, other than some fleeting feelings filling his emotional void. :D With that, the gang continues their fun with their hippo buddy, who was chasing Fastidious Beaver shhoting tomatos at him. :D Back at Tails' Workshop, Nominatus and his lackeys finally made it to the desk where Tails' laptop was on. But before they could do anything, an adorable kitty entered the workshop through the window and basically beat up Retro & Beta. Nominatus gives them a rubber band while he electrically charges up a tinfoil ball. Using the rubber band as a slingshot, he fires the weaponized ball at the kitty and it hits its nose, chasing it out of the workshop. (Aw... poor kitty...) Soon after, they try to reach up to the desk, with Beta, the big fella, lifting up Retro, the small fella, while Nominatus was on Retro's head. Nominatus almost reached the desk until a little birdie swoops in and snatches him up! Nominatus: "Is this a workshop or a petting zoo?!" XD The bird flew all around the workshop, smacking Nominatus into a boiler and the walls and Tails' desk. The digital menace then zaps the bird and rides its back trying to control it as it flies out the window. Despite the smacks and groans being heard from outside, the bird flew back in the workshop. Nominatus then jumps off the bird and lands on the laptop. He lands on the exact key to disable the file-size throttle and he, and his cronies, grew to their normal size. At the same time, Sticks throws several plates in the air and Ms. Tomatopotamus, while in Knux's hands, spits tomatos at the plates, shattering all of them. Suddenly, the tiny hippo got a massive growth spurt as she now resembled a mid-to-full size hippo, crushing Knux in the process! Tails deduces that something must have caused his Build-It Box to malfunction and suggests that they return to his workshop. Soon, as the gang returns to Tails' Workshop, they notice something amiss... other than the fishy smell, thanks to Knuckles hiding a bunch of fish under the floorboard as a prank... which would explain the random animals in his workshop, as Tails chased away a moose. :D But, most importantly, Tails' laptop and his Build-It Box was missing! Tails decides to check his security camera footage. While Sticks was doing her Shia LeBouf impersonation: https://twitter.com/AngelCam7/status/853623243776946182  , Tails reviewed the footage on his tablet. Other than Knuckles stuffing fish under his floorboard and Eggman sneaking in the rub the bottom of Tails' mouse under his armpit (Gross...), the only thing Tails didn't recognize were 3 creatures, who looks like a combination of Zeti from Sonic Lost World and Nightmare Creatures from Sonic Unleashed, making off with his laptop and his Build-It Box. Tails deduces that whenever weirdos are in town, Eggman's involved. Sonic tells Tails & Knux to deal Eggman while he, Amy, & Sticks deals with the 3 creeps. Later, in the forest, Nominatus, with Tails laptop in hand and with Beta carrying the Build-It Box, boasts about first destroying the village, then the cities, and soon the rest of the planet. Suddenly, Sonic, Amy, & Sticks block their path. https://twitter.com/AngelCam7/status/853627275119669248 XD (Well, thanks to Sticks, I'm sure that'll be a thing soon enough... In fact... Maybe that's something deviantArt can do for next year's April Fool's Day... :D ) Frustrated with the banter, Nominatus traps the trio in an electric field, proclaiming that non-digital life forms are powerless against him. Then Sonic tells him that they have digital backup. Enter Ms. Tomatopotamus as she spits a tomato right in Nominatus' face, causing him to stop his electric field, freeing the heroes. As they were about to fight, Nominatus, after wiping the tomato off of his face, quickly summons some digital minions through the Build-It Box, who... quite frankly, look awfully familiar... http://fav.me/db641ie Dubbed the Cater-pixels (because since this is a kids' show, you can't say the K word... unless you're Sticks. XD ), he sics them on the heroes. Meanwhile, in Eggman's lair, Knuckles busts down the front door where... Eggman was in his pajamas mixing chemicals... https://twitter.com/AngelCam7/status/853785472375685120 Tails soon demanded to know why Eggman sent those goons to rob him to which the doc had no clue what he was saying. Tails: "Don't play dumb with me." Knuckles: "Yeah, that's my job! Show him the footage, T-Dawg." Ha! Comic reference! :D (To those who don't know, that's the name of Tails' robotic K9.) Tails shows Eggman the security footage. Eggman immediately recognized Nominatus as the scoundrel who betrayed him and took over his lair last year and decides to join them in stopping him... once he puts on pants. Back in the forest, the gang was having troubles dealing with the cater-pixels as Amy could not connect with her hammer strikes. As Sonic tried his spin attack, one curled up and protruded spikes, hurting him in the process. (Yeah, that's why I always disliked the caterkillers in the original game.) Ms Tomatopotamus soon provided assistance, spitting tomatos in the eyes of the cater-pixels, blinding them. Frustrated, Nominatus materializes ray guns for Retro and Beta to use as they fire it at the hippo. Amy was worried and wondered how to stop him. Suddenly, Eggman arrived with his scorpion bots and grasshopper-mantis bots, proclaiming that there's only room for one supervillain in this town. Nominatus agreed as he blasted several robots. As Eggman's robots and Nominatus' cater-pixels fought, Knuckles punched several holes in the ground while Sticks kicked several cater-pixels in the newly formed pits. Amy smashed several blinded cater-pixels with her hammer and Sonic quickly disarms Retro & Beta and uses his speed to outwit the digital dunces. Nominatus soon boasts about how he'll soon unleash a flurry of digital minions... until Eggman blasts the laptop out of his hands, causing Tails to catch it! Eggman: "Little advice: Save your victorious boasts for AFTER the execution of your evil scheme. Trust me, I learned that lesson the hard way." XD Sonic, Amy, and Sticks soon corraled the rest of the cater-pixels near the Build-It Box, where Tails soon reverses it, sending them back from whence they came. Nominatus fires an electric blast, blocking the heroes path so he could escape, but with the laptop back in his possession, Tails activates his file-size throttle, causing Nominatus and his cronies to shrink to ant size once again. This also causes Ms. Tomatopotamus to shrink back to her tiny state. Eggman then summons his beetle bot to contain the trio in a glass cylinder. He then takes the cylinder back to his lair. And Knuckles decides to keep Ms. Tomatopotamus as his pet. http://fav.me/db645p6 Back at Eggman's lair, Eggman keeps Nominatus and his lackeys as his prisoners... in an aquarium tank. XD http://fav.me/db645uj

Like I said before, this episode was so awesome! So many hilarious references, so many funny gags, and the action scene was so amazing! Shoot, we saw badniks vs badniks! Even Nominatus' henchmen, Retro & Beta, who I believe were voiced by Roger Craig Smith & Travis Willingham respectively, were entertaining in their parts of lackey stooges. There's not much more to say, every time I re-watch this episode, I l smile, I laugh, and I enjoy every bit of it... well, except the Eggman pajama wedgie... "Can't unsee that..." But all in all, this episode... Awesome!

I look forward to the future episodes, especially the eventual 4-parter, if it ends up just as epic as this episode. :D
