c'mon, people, it's a new character. Ignoring the existence of Sonic Boom, the games are actually long overdue for introducing a new playable character. No, different versions of Sonic don't count, didn't count and have not counted. Last new playable character was Shade in '08...nearly 10 years ago! (Zeti in Olympics don't count either. I mean, they're barely even in it at all...and it's the freakin' Olympics.)
I know for some reason everyone hates all the Sonic characters (until decent porn of them starts getting made), but frankly... I don't care. I'm going to judge this character when I'm properly introduced to him, rather than go all crazy based on a blurry 2-second clip from the latest trailer.

I believe it's a new character. It is certainly time for it. As for it being a cat, maybe. I honestly thought it was a wolf from first glance. It's definitely a male from how the proportions on the silhouette looks.
