If there was a Somali flag flying at the airport instead of the stars-n-stripes, this scenario would fit right into place.

they offered him $800 to go on a later flight, its bullshit yes but if hes asked to leave the plane.. you do it.. dont mess with airlines after 9/11

they asked for volunteers to get $800...no one took it so they said computer would pick 4 random passengers to make room for united employees....and when he refused because he was doctor and had patients in morning at destination, dragged him off plane, committing assault and battery and prolly breach of contract.

saw that shit on the news, saw the video feed of dude getting beat up, that situation wasn't handled properly.

It's THEIR fault they overbooked....and then they assault the guy for not wanting to give up his paid seat "voluntarily" ...worse their CEO is now blaming the victim for being upset at being robbed of his seat.

that's the part where I call bullshit. he says the situation, when and how it was handled was unsettling, and wanting to contact him, only to act like this... this is one of the reasons folks say flying isn't fun anymore.  honestly, that's bad repute in regards to your customers.  and to make room for stew--no wait, they're called flight attendants now, just for them to have seats on the plane.

The over booking thing is what got me.  If they needed seats of extra crew then there should've been seats in reserve for such.  This situation was mishandled in so many ways and such damage was done to the ad "Fly the friendly skies of United"...

and they werent overbooked, they bumped paying customers to fit in 4 employees who could have taken another plane or driven 5 hours

i think they overbooked it, well i mean they had it full, they thought they needed room for the 4 employees which still questioning why, yeah i agree they could have done other things for the employees i get it i don't like it either, the airport is blamed for this but the security guards that tried to confiscation him were the problem. but even though it doesn't make it right, they still have that silly contract where they can bump you off a flight for any reason, and no they don't have the right to beat you up, it was the guards who did that though, that sad poor doctor.

that's not really overbooking....thats bumping paying customers to make room for employees that werent needed for flight so they can have a comfy ride AND supposedly it was for a sister airline, delta, not theirs....as far as the "contract"....it is JUST that....the guy paid the money, they refused to give him the service, so at that point the contract is broken unilaterally as well.  At that point in a contract damages have been made such as time and not allowing the other party to make other contracts for transport to get their on time.  They are therefore in default on that contract.  This is basic contract law.  Any clauses saying you can break a contract for any reason would not hold up too well in court.
