Probably better off...

I'm 63, I've been smoking now for the past 50 years.
I managed to quit briefly between 1989 and 1994.

I managed to quit again.

Wish me luck.

Well, it's been an interesting "pre-quit" week.
I left a cigar in the ashtray here at my desk.
Once, maybe twice a day, I'd light up. "Ewwwww" and set it back down.
To quote BB King, the thrill is gone.

In a way no. It's hard when you don't really want to.

I quit smoking back about 1998-ish, and the sad truth is if I could afford it I'd probably have already started back up again. Hope yours works out for you though :)

My thoughts and best wishes are with you, friend. I quit September 20, 1991 for the final time. Toughest thing I ever did. Still, I'm so glad I did it. I'd be in much worse shape had I not. You and I are almost exactly the same age.

Stories of tortures
Used by debauchers,
Lurid, licentious, and vile,
Make me smile.
Novels that pander
To my taste for candor
Give me a pleasure sublime.

Funny......
In the fall of 1968, I was a Young Republican. I remember riding with the YR President, Gary Jacobs in his '66 Dodge Monaco wagon. I remember riding along with this song playing on the radio, probably on radio 77 WABC. That song always reminded me of those days, and that campaign
Today, I was phone banking to get bodies in seats to pass a town referendum tonight. I thought of this song, particularly
"Oh my friend, we're older, but no wiser, for in our hearts the dreams are still the same"

I was a Republican back then too.
The party of Ike and the rest.
ABSOLUTELY NOTHING like the current bunch.

There used to be this creature called the progressive Republican; Hawkish, but socially Liberal. Last seen in the NYC are in the early Seventies.......Today, to join the Republican party, you need a letter of reference from the preacher at a Megachurch, and, standing upright, your knuckles must drag the ground.

This man, Everett Dirksen, was NOTHING like Paul Ryan or his co-conspirator Mitch McConnell.

You can do it..  I sorta quit back in 2008.  I started on the nicotine lozenges.  Haven't had a cigarette since... Now I just need to quit the lozenges.  *sighs*

I did this before, with cigarettes back in 1989. Just quit cold turkey as they say. Managed to stay quited for 8 years.

I "weaned" myself from the nicotine by having a horrible cough that got in the way of smoking.

Now it's just a matter of not doing something stupid like telling myself, "Congratulations, you've gone 3 days, you deserve a cigar."

26 years of not smoking; three years not drinking. But, I can do a full day of physical work at 63.
Now, if it only grew my hair back........
