Obvious dumb joke aside, I was expecting more from all the hype Sega was building up for this panel at SXSW. They've been saying for months they were gonna have some big reveals for both games, and we get 40 seconds showing Flying Battery zone and 40 seconds of the most barebones gameplay for Sonic Forces.
Now, I am excited to play Flying Battery again, and Sonic Forces certainly LOOKS gorgeous, but I was really expecting more; like what this 3rd character is or what this new gameplay mechanic is. To only give us 40 seconds of "boost-to-win" gameplay is quite the cocktease. I'm still excited for Sonic Mania, and hopefully Sonic Forces will play as good as it looks, but I don't wanna get my hopes up at this point. They've got plenty of time to work on it though, so fingers crossed.
So what did you guys think of what Sega had to show?
Also stream tonight, probly in a few hours from now. I'll make a post when I go online. Hopefully my internet can handle more than a few hours this week. https://picarto.tv/toh
To me it looks and sounds precisely like a fusion of Generations and Lost World what with its boost to win and wisp to collect gameplay.
I am curious about the third gameplay style, but a big part of me thinks it'll involve combat/weapons style gameplay so I'm already on the defense here.
At least I can pick up Mania, when they decide how much they'll charge for it that is.
Meh, that's how I felt about it. To me it looks and sounds precisely like a fusion of Generations a
I'm almost certain Mania will be good because we've seen quite a bit of it already and the people behind it have a great track record. I'm glad Flying Battery will be back as it was one of my favourite 2D Sonic levels.
Sonic Forces looks ok at least from the 40 seconds we were shown. I'm still confused as to why whisps are in the game considering the only really worked story wise in Colours. When they were in Lost World they made no sense to the story and handled like arse. If the game is as good as Generations it should at least be a fun ride though.

Takashi Iizuka stated in an interview around the year 2014 in regards to Lost World having Wisps that Wisps are viewed by Sonicteam as the future of Sonic. They provide a fresh way for Sonic to not only obtain new gameplay mechanics in each game but always a way to keep the speedy gameplay fresh and interesting.
Which just proves once again that East doesn't understand West when it comes to preferred gameplay styles.

I honestly have no idea. Capsules were around for along time, then they were just phased out to make room for those bonus rings, red rings and plus 10 rings ring.
I guess they got tired of designing capsules for power ups and just went with something easier to design.

Don't be deceived by how "beautiful" it looks until you're actually playing it. Maybe a PC version (if they have one) will look as good but anything else. Probably not exactly as this not even a minute not even live gameplay.

It look promising. I like that they went back to the engine they use in Colors and Generations.
And I like that they brought back the boost ability. One of the things I didn't like in lost world and the previous games was that they got rid of the boost and the momentum that you pick up when you run; and you had to hold a button to make him run.
I'm glad they confirmed Amy, Knuckles, and the Choatix are coming back. They probably not gonna be playable again, but it nice to see them again. I do hope we see more characters like Shadow and Rouge get announced. And hopefully have Rouge tease Knuckles like in Sonic Colors for the DS.
The Wisps feel unnecessary but hopefully they can use them better then they did in lost world.
So far it look promising, can't wait for more info.
Oh and do you guys know if Sonic Mania Collectors Edition will be available for pre-order on the Switch soon?

i'm jsut glad they're sticking with boost gameplay. i missed it and that measn we aren't goign through what the 2000s dealt with for sonic with it being a new gameplay style and engine literally every single year because they couldn't stick to 1 style

I think they finally learned not to overdo it on hype. My only complaint about forces was that the level in question looked like a trashed rooftop run from sonic generations. Or a spagonia level from unleashed, just under seige
