Sonic Boom Review for 03/11/2017

So... This episode of Sonic Boom... Wow... you know, normally, I don't like watching things that relate to awful things in history, let alone the day my faith in humanity died when President Gumshoos was elected. But... there was something about this episode of Sonic Boom... maybe it was the fact that it was a Sticks focused episode, maybe it was the way it was told, or maybe it was how the writers made this in 2015 (According to writer Alan Denton on his Twitter: https://twitter.com/AlanTheWriter/status/84109392116172... ) and we're dealing with a coincidental outcome in 2017? Either way, I ended up enjoying this episode.

With that being said, here's my review on the latest Sonic Boom episode, which aired on March 11th, 2017.

"Unnamed Episode." (First off, clever name. When I first saw this title card on tumblr, I thought it was some kind of rough draft kind of thing, when, in actuality, it's referring to the unnamed village, as Amy stated in the Chez Amy episode. :D )

The episode starts at City Hall where Mayor Fink was discussing how tourism used to be focused on a giant ball of twine... until Sonic unwound it to save the village from a rock slide. (Wait... from the episode "Aim Low?" That happened over a year ago! Now they decide to talk about it?! XD ) So, they try to come up with a new idea to bring up tourism. Amy gives them the idea of having T-shirts with the name of the village. Only one problem... nobody knew the name of the village! Amy suggests going to the library to look up the information. After a few seconds of silence, Tails recommended looking it up online on his laptop. Amy tries to explain the benefits of the library, but no one listened as Tails found the information in seconds. :D (Sad... the only reason I go to libraries anymore myself is to see if they have MAD Magazines. Still funny after all these years...) According to the info Tails pulls up, long ago, the village was originally called Badgerville, named after the founder, Jebediah Badger, a ruthless bank owner and land developer, who seized power by manipulating the system. He'd kick people out of their homes so he'd develop on their land and expand his fortune. Eventually, the villagers would rebel and chased him out of town. They soon tore down the signs bearing his image and the town's name. However, the people were too lazy to put up new signs or decide on a new name. According to Tails, technically, the town's name is still Badgerville. Sticks was in shock when she heard this, as she tells Tails that Jebediah Badger was her great-great-grandfather! That msans her ancestor was... "The Man." (I'm surprised they didn't have her faint after hearing this.) Later, at Sticks' Burrow, Sticks shared with Amy her disappointment of her ancestor, as he stood for everything she hated in this world: abuse of power, oppression, and shoddy sign construction. Amy tells Sticks that she had nothing to do with him and that it's nothing to be ashamed of. Sticks agreed, saying she may have overreacted, and thanked Amy. The next day, however, as Amy & Sticks walked through the village, Sticks kept getting ugly looks from the villagers. Sticks tells Amy that she feels like everyone's avoiding her and looking at her funny. Amy asks how that's different from any other day. Sticks answers that it's not just her paranoia acting up again. :) She then tells everyone that she doesn't even agree with Jebediah's methods and how she helps people all the time, but the villagers didn't want to listen and said that they need to rename the village so it's no longer named after the no-good badger. Sticks agrees and tries to help, but everyone just runs away. Sticks thinks she'll just lay low for a bit and asks Amy to make sure they don't name the town something stupid. Soon, back at City Hall, the villagers suggest dumb names to name their village. Sonic & Knuckles were no help either, as they both try to get it named after themselves. Amy then suggests a name that sounds nice and boosts their image: Pleasant Valley. Mayor Fink agrees, since it'll be one of the few locations that's not nicely named ironically. As the villagers cheered, Eggman bursts in. Not to fight, but to throw his name in the hat... literally, he wanted to name it Eggman City. Sonic said there was no way this was going to be called that ridiculous name. (Yeah, especially since he suggested Sonic-topia. XD ) Eggman then said let the people decide when Amy pointed out that liked the name Pleasant Valley. Eggman then said that you can't just declare a new name, even though that's exactly what he was trying to do a few seconds ago, and that there has to be a election unless she's trying to be like Jebediah Badger. The next day, Amy and Sticks tries to convince people in the village to go with the Pleasant Valley name for the village. Of course, due to Amy's affiliation with Sticks, it was not going smoothly. Meanwhile, Eggman was swaying people through the use of giving away free T-shirts... with the Eggman logo on it. (Please, unless I was planning on using it as a rag to clean my bathroom with it, I don't want it... XD )  We even see an attack ad on TV talking about Amy's affiliation with Sticks. Sticks couldn't take this anymore and retreats to her Burrow. The next day, at City Hall, everyone's on line for the voting of the new town name. Amy talks about how she did all she could and now they have to vote and hope the people make the right decision. Tails says to have faith in the democratic process. And... it turns out Eggman won. (I wonder if Tails' faith was shattered the same way my faith in humanity was...) Soar the Eagle then interviews Eggman as he thanked the villagers for voting without actually looking at his proposition itself, for it turns out that not only did they vote to name the area after him, they also elected him to be supreme ruler of said area! Then immediately shut down the media. (I feel like the creators should have given Eggman that ridiculous toupee from "Eggman The Auteur" episode...) Now having complete control of the village, the first thing Eggman does... is have the garbagemen collect his trash in a more timely fashion. ... The second thing he plans to do is leveling the village to construct his own theme park. (Again?) Sonic, Tails, Knuckles, & Amy were not going to let Eggman go through with this plan. Eggman then reminds them that since he was elected, what he's doing is well within the realms of the law. Amy then heads to the library to look for any kind of loophole that could put a stop to what Eggman was doing. After searching through a mess of books, she finally finds the answer she seeks. She soon heads to Sticks' Burrow to tell her great news, only to see her packing her things, about to move out. Amy then tells her that she discovered that even though Jebediah Badger was run out of town, he never relinquished ownership of the land, which means that, legally speaking, the village is owned by the only known descendant of Jebediah Badger: Sticks! That means Sticks owns everything in the village: the stores, the houses, and in her mind, the mind reading antenna cleverly disguised as trees, the invisible tower where the government hides all the aliens, and the underground factory where they create duplicates of everyone so they can replace them all with pod people. (That last one may be true. How else can we explain Perci and "Staci",,, XD ) Back at the village, we see Eggman still going over his blueprints, thinking where to put a funnel cake stand. (So, he's spent all that time planning out where to put things?! Some genius...) Amy and Sticks comes back as Amy said that Sticks was the true owner of the village, thus all of the villagers votes were meaningless! XD And Sticks proclaims that she's giving the town back to the people. Eggman, not caring that his status as supreme leader is now null and void, decides to bulldoze the youth center anyway, as he summons an army of ballbots. Team Sonic (Sonic, Tails, & Knuckles) deal with the ballbots. Sticks, armed with her bo staff, confronts Eggman. (I do believe this is the 2nd time we see her using this staff. I like how Season 2 is expanding Sticks arsenal so her weapon isn't just a boomerang.) As Amy evacuates the youth center, and the guys finish smashing up the last of the ballbots, Sticks lands in front of the moving bulldozer and jams the stick in the control stick of the bulldozer, now forcing it to go in reverse. With Eggman no longer controlling the bulldozer, his plans are thwarted. Mayor Fink, on behalf of the village, apologizes to Sticks and say they'd be honored to have this town keep the name of Badgerville. Sticks declines and says that we should name it after someone who deserves it. She dubs the name Hedgehog Village. Sonic thinks she named it after him, when in fact, she named it after her friend Amy, who stood by her, no matter what. :)

Hey, whatever. It's named after 2 of my favorite characters. Spoiler: Shadow is not one of them. XD As I said before, according to Alan Denton's Twitter, this episode was conceived way before the 2016 elections took place. To me, that's either funny coincidence or, like Screw Attack's DEATH BATTLE! series has done sometimes, they have some strange ability to predict the future! :D

The episode itself was really good. Yes, it reminded me of the darkest time in America's current history, but it got me so involved with Sticks' part in the story, it made me very happy when things were resolved the way they were. Probably one of the sweetest endings I've seen yet in the Sonic Boom series.

Well, once again, I look forward to the next episode. And here's hoping there won't be any more strange coincidental things that coincide with current events. :D

I know I'm asking for a lot here but it would be interesting to build more on Sticks' origins and how her great grandfather was the leader of the village, I'm interested to learn more about her history now =p

Also I had no idea this episode was written BEFORE the elections incident, I thought they made a clear pun but if what they said is true then it's indeed a weird coincidence, I guess other people have thought of the same thing I did wan watching the episode, I mean to have Alan Denton mention it in Twitter.

Well, it's not uncommon. For most shows, when they get the news that a deal for a new season has been made, that's when they start writing scripts... At least that what I think, anyway...

That I know but I find it odd they'd make this script "before" the Trump incident, seems to me like they only said that to avoid any legal issues, kinda like the case with the Biggest Sonic Fan episode.

hey not to be a ass, i'm gonna be polite as possible on this, while I find your review intriguing and entertaining, I find the remark about the president up top to kinda be kinda uncalled for... normally that kind of stuff is likely to start flame wars internet riots, and actual riots, so for the benefit of everyone here, and all the "others" that would have something to say on this can I suggest you maybe leave a thought like that to yourself next time? cause lord only knows what kind of trolls will come after you for comments like that. but I digress.. but anyway, again excellent review of the episode really liked it, and have a nice day. ^^

Fair enough. I don't usually put my personal feelings from the real world into play in my reviews, especially politics. But, I find this to be kind of funny, based on how coincidental this whole thing was.

Thanks to this episode I officially hate all the stupid denizens of this village, not quite Golgoba levels but their stupidity has finally crossed into that later season Patrick Star malicious edge.  Plus Amy's last name is Rose, her name is Amy Rose, not Amy Rose Hedgehog, what next?  We're going to find out Tails' real name is Miles Prower Fox?  This is the most politically charged episode of the series, topping "Just a Guy" and even though it is saved by the awesomeness of Sticks I do believe it is probably the worst episode of the season so far.

To be fair, I think the only game that has her name as Amy Rose the Hedgehog was Sonic Chronicles. Didn't made sense, doesn't make sense now, but I don't really care...
