I started writing around the time I first played Final Fantasy VII. To put this into context, up until then, almost every game I played had next to zero story. Mario rescued Princess Toadstool because that was the objective of the game.
Then Final Fantasy VII happened. When I was 8.
Mind. Blown.
Aaaaand that's when I started writing, though I wouldn't start publishing my work until 2007, which is why I call that Gen I. Everything up till then was me fapping around in one series or another, trying to find my voice as a writer. Anime also happened to me in 2002, so technically 1997-2001 should be Gen -1, but whatever.

Yeah I already had quite a few story-filled RPGs under my belt when 7 hit, which is part of why It's honestly not one of my faves. But I didn't get to writing proper until high school. largely because I couldn't without hand-writing and for me that's painful. Typing helped alot.
Granted I didn't come up with anything I really liked until Ester and even then it took years to get any real skill with it.
Personally I've never been published published, and doubt I will, or that I'll try. I like getting feedback on my stuff when I can but mainly I write to keep myself sane at this point.
And yeah, it's always good to know ones sources. Sounds like you do a prolific amount of hammering stuff out as well.
