The end of a certain movie series...

by
It's finally happening... the last movie in the Resident Evil film franchise is upon us on the 27th this month. So, I just got finished watching a RE movie marathon, all 5 of the movies with both of my siblings, the youngest of which has NEVER seen any of the movies, and we're gonna go see the last one when it comes out! It should be a fun trip, plenty of laughs, and some mindless action with Milla Jovovich (always love to see her in stuff XD) but I'll admit, it'll be bittersweet too, knowing it's the last one in this particular incarnation of the RE universe.

I had a bit of a 'holy shit I feel old' moment, when I realized that the first Resident Evil movie came out *15* years ago, in *2002*... I was in FOURTH GRADE when that shit came out, and I remember being super excited (I was an RE game fan even back then XD), and pissed that I couldn't go to see it because it was rated R lol... I had to wait for the cut version to come out on the TV before I saw it on the SciFi channel lol.

I'll admit straight up, the movies are in NO WAY good lmao X'D They're schlocky, they have glaring plot holes, and no logic, with metric tons of inconsistencies and ridiculousness... but they are a big guilty pleasure of mine ^.^;... I've always liked Milla Jovovich in movies, the action is overblown and stupid-fun, the recreation of scenes from the games are always good for a laugh (OMG that Wesker fight in RE: Afterlife is fucking GOLDEN X'D), the musical score is usually pretty awesome, and the one liners manage to be both hilarious and badass at the same time XD. All in all, I enjoy them, despite all their flaws :)

Again though, it kinda floored me to realize that this movie series, one that gets blasted for how bad it is all the time, has lasted for FIFTEEN YEARS, 6 films, with the main star reprising her role each time (Milla Jovovich even won a cheesy fucking Spike TV horror award for one of the movies one year XD), and many of the costars also returning at least once (Michelle Rodriguez, Colin Salmon, and even Sienna Guillory and Ali Larter returned for sequels, holy shit lmao XD), the GAMES THEMSELVES took some stuff from the films and put it into the games (laser trap hallways anyone?), and with the failings of other videogame adapted films like Warcraft and Ratchet and Clank bombing at the box office, all in all, I'd say the Resident Evil film franchise could indeed be considered an actual SUCCESS, maybe even cult classic for being so bad they're good XD?

Either way, I'll be both, excited to see what glorious things the last film brings to this long running franchise, and sad to see that it's over... a fifteen year legacy, coming to a close. I wonder how strange it must be for Milla Jovovich? She's married to the director of the films, and so it's almost like this film franchise is their baby XD... it must be such a strange feeling to be able to flip on the first movie, and see herself fifteen years younger, in the start of a franchise, working her way up through the progressively more action packed and advanced films (that CGI in the first film compared to the last, omggggg) and all the way to this last one in the series... what a journey it must have been. Even after it's over, I'm sure I'll continue to watch the films every now and then, just for a smile. I salute you Resident Evil films... it's been a blast, and I'll miss you :)

Anybody else have anything to say about the RE films, bad or good XD?

Never really liked the movies, they're decent action flicks, but they're just so detached from the actual RE canon.
Yes i know they're non-canon but honestly the only connection between the movies and the games are zombies and character names. And literally just names; the characters aren't similar on any other properties. The series definitely has come an impressive way this far, though.

That being said, if you haven't watched Damnation and Degeneration, the CGI movies, they are awesome, definitely worth watching~
