JLA/Power Rangers and the League of Losers 2!

So the first issue of the most epic crossover ever is out!  Justice League/Power Rangers...  Annnnnnnnd...  I've got nothing to say about it.  It's the first issue.  They're setting things up.  Things are gonna be verrrrrrrrrry interesting come issue 2, though.

That said, IN JLA/Power Rangers 1...  An advertisement that caught my eye.

So.  Back in the 90s, the Justice League was...  Well... comic fans have dubbed it the League of Losers.  Which is an apt name.  The early 90s JLA was made up of Z- and D- list heroes that DC wanted around, but couldn't use anywhere else.  They thought the Justice League should highlight heroes that didn't get the spotlight.

This was a bad idea.  This was a VERY bad idea.

And so the JLA was made up of Black Canary, Booster Gold and Blue Beetle (who spent 90% of their time pranking each other and the other members), Fire and Ice (who spent 90% of their time squabbling over men), Guy Gardner (in his original humongous jerka** phase, before he had become the awesome jerk with a heart of gold he is today)...  and Martian Manhunter... who was just... THERE.

They added Superman late in the run to try to bring in readers.

They failed.

In the late 90s, Grant Morrison scrapped the League of Losers, and reenvisioned the JLA as a pantheon of gods.  He thought the JLA should be made up of the best of the best of the best of the best.

This was a good idea.  This was a VERY good idea.

And so the new JLA's lineup was made up of Superman, Wonder Woman, Batman, the Flash, Green Lantern, Aquaman, and Martian Manhunter.

Other members would join later to boost sales, like Green Arrow, Aztek, Plastic Man, Big Barda, and Steel.

They succeeded.

If this sounds familiar... that's because that's the line up of the JL cartoon.  And JL Unlimited.  And Young Justice...  And EVERY SINGLE VERSION of the greatest incarnation of the Justice League.

Cut to the present day.  The Nu52 JLA is still the pantheon, with one notable exception who DOES NOT BELONG... Cyborg, who is a Teen Titan first and always.  The JLA/Power Rangers comic features the Pantheon JLA.

And yet, within, they are advertising JLA REBIRTH, part of their new Rebirth line-up, attempting to repair the damage that the Nu52 and DCYou initiatives caused.

Holy cow, we're back to the early 90s.  If not WORSE!

Batman.  Black Canary.  The Ray.  The Atom (in his new TV power armor incarnation).  Vixen.  KILLER FROST, who is a psychopathic murdering VILLAIN.  And LOBO, who is even MORE of a psychopathic murdering VILLAIN (though admittedly, a fun and hilarious and awesome one).

It's the League of Losers all over again. What was DC thinking with this lineup?!

At least Lobo isn't Twilight Lobo, the sparkly bishonen version...

JLA and Power rangers eh? LEt's hope it doesn't commit the sin that some Power Ranger teams ups did where one team outshined the other completely

So far, not yet.  Then again, it's REALLY hard to outshine Superman...

Exactly why any kind of team up involving him is...risky. At least Power Rangers knew how to do Team ups correctly for the most part, To the Tenth Power being  shiny example of that

Minor spoiler, but they started out right by having the Rangers utterly pwn Batman, rather than treating Batman like Batgod and having him easily win...

...ok i'l clap to that, well done. Was it a specific Ranger team or just the Mighty Morphin ones?

Mighty Morphin, with Tommy.  Hell, Tommy ALONE could easily pwn Batman.

Okay Lobo joined the League once in JLU and the gag of it was that they wanted to get rid of him as much as possible because of everything encompassed in Lobo's basic personality.  Even so I can at least see Lobo as like a mercenary contract hell get the right people involved and you can basically say he was hired to minimize the threat he might pose by at least making him easier to keep track of.

I am confused with Killer Frost. Hell her power is described as drawing heat out of living beings as a necessity to not die and it's not like they've got someone on the team who's like infinite heat or the like that you could argue is used to curb the feeding tendencies. Even that's only based on powers since I recall so very little of her personality outside of one of the old cartoons wherein she probably wasn't allowed to be as dangerous as her comic counterpart.
