I think I'm beginning to hate my job...

Don't get me wrong, I like fixing computers and phones and networks and shit better than working at a grocery store or something. What I don't like is the constantly having learn shit for stupid people. Repairs are different,Computers and phones aside, it takes me like half an hour now to replace an iPhone 6 screen.

No, I have a different problem. For example. We got this customer. Total apple fanboi, so far (and some of this stuff he's bought through us) he's got three or four or maybe 5 macbooks, big 27" discontinued apple monitors, 2 thousand dollar "cheese graters" (basically an apple server) ipads, iphones, apple tvs, time capsules, etc.

He runs a business. Accounting. He's like one of those guys that hides money offshore for rich people. All the software he insists on using for his business runs on windows. So because he flat out refuses to drop this apple boner despite his constant problems with it (he came in two days ago. boots to black screen with a cursor. common apple problem for years. the fix is to delete a fucking settings file. THIS is the kind of Apple stupidity I see all the time and don't even get me started on the hardware.)

Anyway since he's got this apple boner I'm stuck having to try to network his home and office with two cheese graters over vpn (much savings with REAL computer hardware) with constant bullshit like time capsules being used as routers up and deciding to fail for no reason. According to him it needs an update but he doesn't even know how to connect to it so the fuck he know?

I got bored there ranting, guess I got it off my chest for a bit. The point is it's this kind of shit that keeps me from Arting or GameDeving like I want to. By the time I get home at the end of the day I don't want to learn or make anything. Just wanna sit around at home and fuckin get drunk <.<

Hopefully since he doesn't mind paying more for the same hardware, he won't mind paying you more than your other customers to fix it. >_>

We charge more for apple than else but it doesn't help. Thousands spent trying to get his business running on barely-home-user-equipment and he's starting to get annoyed. HE'S GETTING ANNOYED!?!? We've told him since the beginning to use business class hardware but nope, apple is better, apple is more secure, apple doesn't fail all the time like windows does except for the every-other-day he's calling for some random caused-by-apple-bullshit issue.

I always forget where I was going partway into my rants X3

The brother of a friend was constantly calling me because he was having problems with, or wanted me to teach him how to use a program somebody else installed, or because of a simple issue that I had already fixed several times, but he didn't want to be bothered to remember how to fix it himself.

So yeah, I understand where you're coming from here :p

Yep yep yep, that too. A car dealership that wants us to learn THEIR Customer Relations program so they don't have to. That doesn't even make sense to me, am I supposed to get the call from them to tell the program to tell the customer to come in for a tune up? I don't think so!

Hasn't happened yet but the subject was mentioned.

As someone who himself is getting into that type of equipment, I might be using what I've got available at this point in time, but at least it's equipment that I can get help with and doesn't constantly break down...

Computer equipment in general or Apple?
Please tell me you're not falling into that money pit

Computer gear in general.  There's several reasons I won't touch Apple gear... maybe in the past, but not anymore.

'pounces so hard'
Good :3
And yeah, in the past they were decent, the powerpc was the way to go for video editing. But now microsoft owns a controlling interest in apple and only keeps them alive so they look like they have competition anyway. Speaking of.
Use Linux if you can.

I'm using Linux where I can, absolutely.  While 90% of what I do can be done with Linux, the hardware I'd want to use it on still requires Windows to function properly (meaning get updates) and may not work 100% with it.  I am about ready to set up my NAS using FreeNAS, but I'd rather that be a VM, and with consumer grade hardware Citrix and VMWare aren't necessarily supported.
