I just got off the phone with both the service center where the car is getting worked on that the insurance won't be replacing the power steering pump stating that it was going out prior to the accident. I told the person in charge of the repairs that the power steering pump and steering was working perfectly up until the accident and afterwards, the steering would lurch to the left or right unexpectedly, the pump was whining and grinding loudly as well as going through well over 2 1/2 quarts of power steering fluid between the accident and when the car went into the shop. I called the insurance claims center to escalate the issue so that it can be fixed explaining to them that if the pump was already going out prior to the accident, it never gave any indication that it was. Thankfully it is going to be addressed tomorrow as the car would be unsafe to drive with a steering system that is leaking fluid badly and lurching at random moments. The agent I spoke to did agree that it is strange that if the pump was going out, it would have been giving signs long before the accident and not just starting massive leaking and steering badly immediately afterwards. Hopefully tomorrow or by the end of the week, we will know the outcome as the claims adjuster will be calling and talking to us personally before looking at the car.
