Trigger warning presented by Foamy the squirrel

A message from our Lord and Saviour Foamy the Squirrel

I'll keep the comments up for discussion, but not personal attacks on one another.

Debate can be lively, but let's show a level of tolerance of diffrence of opinion and enough polite interaction to prove we actual care to hear it.

If your not willing to share and listen to the other side, please don't bother commenting.

Ah yes, Foamy, saying it like it is without a filter, very much enjoy these.  I find I am unable to express my opinion without triggering those around me as well.  At college it was the worst, and the people who implemented the idea of safe space must be unfamiliar with Plato and Socrates, debate and experience are to be sought out, differing opinions to be heard, not silenced.

I do wonder how much this happens now days in college, it has been ten years scince I've been to school myself.

But one lesson we need to learn is how to face adversaries and state our own case and opinion while giving leave to the other side to retort and state thier own.  It builds the ablitly to communicate efficently as well as sharpen our ablities to debate and build consensus.

It's the only way to build a coalition of diffrent minded people.

totally with foamy on this one . People who do this are just the worst .. and people who do not stand up to the PC crowd are just as bad..
remember "sticks and stones may break my bones but words will never hurt me" now go put on your big boy/girl pants and shut it.

I think there's two issues at stake here.
What Foamy is saying about 'safe spaces' is true; if you're afraid of conflicting ideas or difficult opinions, and are in a 'safe bubble', you'll never grow, and you'll just be sheltered. And when you're sheltered in a 'safe' echo-chamber where your ideas are never challenged, you may as well be living under a rock.

But these days, the terms "PC" and "safe spaces" have been co-opted by right-wing bullies who like to use them to mock anyone trying to be kind, generous, or helpful.

There is a derogatory aspect to nearly any idea or word these days.  And I didn't post this video nor do I belive foamy was amiming at anyone group or other but those unwilling to face opposition or diffrence of opinion.

There is a lesson to be had, and I don't want anyone to think it was an attack on anyone.

Oh no, me neither --- as I say, I agree with what it's saying. No matter what your political beliefs, if you're living in a "safe" bubble and not spending any time among those with different ideas than yours, all that does is polarize people more.

It's just interesting to me how some terms like those are being used by some people to attack, which is sad.

There have been a number of new insults and names thrown about, cuck being one I have little idea how it came about.

I feel the social media age and twitter contributed to our increasing lexicon of insults.

The "cuck" thing is so weird. It's supposed to be short for "cuckold", as if to say "you're a weak, submissive fem-boy". Somehow that became the preferred insult of alt-right folks. That and "kek!" which is supposed to be an insulting laugh. It's all very bizarre -- people finding new ways to be bullies online.

That's exactly what I've been seeing for a while now.

yeah what gets me is that people won't even debate against someone with different opinion like that person is dead to them if they show something the opposite they are interested in x3. they act like not debating with you over a matter is enough evidence that others should stop following you x3. such a silly realization :P. if you wanted people to know the difference at least point it out and show some respect then not showing up or just screaming "your wrong because i'm 100% correct in this matter because my brain is more  superior  then yours" you won't win people over. and they are like "I don't need to educate you, you can do that for yourself, just google it. x3 like if google is a god. :P

It takes effort to promote your views and concerns.  It's often thankless, but if done respectfully you can show some regard to your opponent.  Which might just lead to future debate that might bring them around or find common ground else where on diffrent subjects.

true, but it still gets to me that a person would refuse an argument with a reason of that it would promote their ideas x3 over ones own. i was watching a video i don't remember the subject , but some people refused to debate, because it would mean that the opponent's opinion mattered or something. like an auto decline to a debate means that the opponent fails by default just makes a foul out of that person. I would respect someone more if they choose not to debate because they didn't have time to prepare more then just refusing because not even because they aren't worth your time, but the subject at hand is discussing to the person or something.

The recent Foamy videos before this revealed that he's done this for over 13 years and wishes to make more. I'm gotta guess late 30s or so.

100% with squirrel on this one.

I'm going to be honest mr. Ferret,  I have never heard of squirrel up until now, so when I read the title of your Journal small part of me is worried that they got you too.  About a month ago one of my personal favorite YouTubers named vernaculis created a video on the death of political conversation in the US,   anybody who is reading this please take a moment to watch it because I think it will probably be the most poignant video you see this decade. I would link it myself but  that's damn near impossible with a mobile phone.
Squirrel here did a bang-up job of resonating what needs to be said, I have thought long and hard and I cannot think of a single scenario where a warning of some sort would be completely Justified.

If you can find a link to the video once youe back on a computer it would be most useful.

Was it just a commantary or a lecture like video?
