Snark Bites (oh, and a new chapter too)

*People be arguing about letting trans-folks choose their bathrooms.
Here's my two cents:
Isn't it about time we stop being terrified of each other and just have unisex bathrooms? I mean, wasn't it a bad thing to have them segregated by RACE a few generations ago?

*Beware anyone who is 100% unshakably convinced of the belief that they are a good person.

*I've never heard anyone say, "9/11 was the day I decided to stop being a Muslim." Instead they try to pretend that the terrorists aren't. I guess that's easier.

*If you don't like how other people treat you, your first step should always be to reverse the situation and ask how you'd react to someone who acts like you.

*People have told me that science and religion can coexist. No, they can't. It's only through compartmentalization that people think they can. They are polar opposite ways of viewing the world. Matter and antimatter. And I can explain why in six words: Science values doubt; religion values certainty.

*I am not a white supremacist. I am, however, an Alex Reynard supremacist.

*The temporary discomfort of the traditionalist is an acceptable consequence of ending the crushing, monotonous misery of the divergent.

*I think I'd be satisfied with my life if, at the end of it, the worst that people could say about me was that my faults primarily hurt myself instead of others.

Seriously private bathrooms would fix everything and be so much gd better why do we make it a communal activity??
AlexReynard
7 years, 4 months ago
Well, there's probably not the space for private rooms in most public places. But why not just have one big bathroom with urinals and a lot of stalls?
Norithics
7 years, 4 months ago
Well it's not a matter of space; you could allot the same amount of space and just complete the divides rather than have this weird quasi-wall situation. Although a combination with a unisex bathroom does sound like it would produce better results. Just, there are so many better options!

Maybe it's legal reasons? Have space underneath and loose locks so paramedics can more easily get in if someone has a seizure or other emergency on the toilet?
Norithics

Can't be, though; otherwise all those fully lockable single restrooms in various Grocery & Convenience stores would be illegal/OSHA non-compliant. I mean that's not a judgement on whether it's a good idea or not; it just seems unlikely that it's against regs. I'm pretty sure the current model is just far cheaper.

Why don't we just all use The Big Toilet from the Naughty Level?
Alfador

Good point. And I have seen stalls with fully enclosed doors before, so it's not like it's a legal REQUIREMENT, but some places might have thought "I need to do this to cover my ass" a long time ago, and it just spread even where it makes no sense.

Which would lead to it being cheaper because that's the way all the standardized parts are made.

Know of a number of places built recently that only have Unisex bathrooms
ScottySkunk

why no unisex bathrooms... because everyone would have to wait on bathroom lines for the women. lol. Also they would pee everywhere because many are scared to sit on the seat. (seriously) also people are  afraid it would lead to more sex. like sex is a bad thing. Also they are afraid that piss and scat fetishists would have orgys in the bathrooms. or that people would be more likely to plow kids there..

basically lots and lots if fear.

now if you excuse me. Me n Lexi are going to fuse my cock in her pussy. share a daiper and have tons of endless sex while taking a dump big enough to fill an entire bedroom. XD

All of these ideas sound good. Except the fear part. Fear is the mind-killer.

I'd expand a little on the science/religion thesis to say: Science and religion can coexist, but they tend to have incompatible ways of thinking. It is difficult for them to coexist within the same mind. However, there are 'religious' philosophies that value truth and uncertainty. Also, there are closed-minded people that don't value uncertainty within scientific communities.

Instead of pitting science and religions against one another, more people should be concerned with being good rather than being right. Striving to be good is still a philosophical battle, but the widely-valued tools of compassion and open-mindedness can help someone become good, and eventually right, too. That is, they're probably necessary, but not sufficient.

I see it like this: Compassion->Empathy->Open-mindedness->Self-reflection->Growth

Alex Reynard: "I am not a white supremacist. I am, however, an Alex Reynard supremacist."
Some dude that just got his head shaved: "I'm not a Racist. I hate everybody!"

Racism should only be about NASCAR, Formula One, 24 Hours Of LeMons...

Personally speaking, I would feel odd about dropping a load in the same bathroom as a female. Nothing really against them, just...Iunno, wouldn't feel good about it, maybe.

Ah well.

There is a definite gender bias when it comes to bathrooms that should be stomped out immediately. And that is the fact that the women's bathroom has more toilets on average than the men's. At my work, the men's room has 1 stall and 2 urinals (which only count for half a toilet). The women's room has six stalls. That is massively unfair. But I'm totally in favor of straight up unisex bathrooms. It would solve a lot of problems.

I am strictly against unisex bathrooms.

Why?

Most women cant use urinals, they need to use a booth to pee, and they take (in comparison) forever to do so.
As a result, even though women bathrooms have on average more stalls than the mens, if you have some event (fair, concert, octoberfest) theres always a long and massive line for the womans bathrooms

If there was only one, unisex bathroom, they'd likely get rid of the urinals for gender equality, making the problem much worse

From a practical point of view it'd be desaster.

I'd rather say, anyone who can use a urinal ( with or without the help of tools) should be allowed into what is currently the mens toilet, while those unable to pee standing, should be confined to whats currently the female's.

Regardless of gender and sex.

I'm just sitting here gobsmacked. I talked about all sorts of topics, and all anyone is discussing here is bathrooms. o.0

It's the only point that looks like you have chimed in at first glance/read.  I had to go back up and look/read, but most of the other items I'm not sure how to react to, or in the case of the middle point on science and religion, the answer becomes too long and complex generally than what most will want to engage in online.

I dunno. I've learned to never underestimate the amount of words people will type in an internet debate. (Especially me!) ;)

Muslims are about as likely to stop being Muslims b/c of 9/11 as Christians are to stop being Christians b/c of abortion clinic bombers. The vast majority of both Muslims and Christians are peaceable and law-abiding, and do not consider the evil people among them to be representative of their faiths.

There, something not about bathrooms! :D

>Muslims are about as likely to stop being Muslims b/c of 9/11 as Christians are to stop being Christians b/c of abortion clinic bombers.

It would be nice though, wouldn't it? 'Say, this group I belong to, its handbook has things in it which a madman could use to justify murder. And they have. Maybe it's not moral to be a part of this group.' I guess it's easy for me to say because I've made it a priority to have a strong self-identity apart from any labels. My political ideas are all over the map. I left libertarianism and MGTOW after about a month each because the groups themselves were not living up to the ideals I'd been interested in. I simply don't need what a religion provides.

>The vast majority of both Muslims and Christians are peaceable and law-abiding, and do not consider the evil people among them to be representative of their faiths.

There's your problem. 'I am good. My religion is good. Some people who are part of my religion are bad. This is a contradiction, which makes me uncomfortable. If my religion can be used for evil, it is not wholly good. But I am not able to face this truth, so instead I will believe that the bad people were never really part of my religion at all. Then I can continue to believe that my religion is good, and I do not have to take any responsibility for the dissemination of bad ideas that are used to justify atrocities.'

Also, the majority of Muslims are only peacable if you're not gay: http://www.pewforum.org/files/2013/04/gsi2-chp3-6.png

The bathroom is just one part of the issue.  The main concern was over locker rooms in High Schools. You think that high school kids will act mature in a unisex locker room?
