Well if youre "clever" enought to get icrap you have to deal with it. ^^
of course i remember there was some little tools that help you with such problems... i remember an add for winamp wich made it possible to copy music between pc and this apple mp3-player my mom had, without itunes.

perhaps theres something like that for windows too?

This is why I never bother with Apple products, too much headaches for too little gain! (This message was sent with an iPad)

I'd suggest uploading pics to google drive on your phone then download them to your PC, but it's only 1 pic at a time sadly.

I do that for when I want to put a pic from my android phone to my mac, as one time my mac wiped my phone's SD card by just plugging it in.

The phone was fine but the micro SD was unreadable by any device after that, which made no sense since with my older android I plugged it into macs all the time with no issue.

Use Google Drive or Dropbox. Both of them are free to use.

Not sure how well it works these days, but I was able to save some data from a dying iphone like 4-5 years ago with iExplorer: https://www.macroplant.com/iexplorer/?gclid=CLi7tuO0ztA...

Install Windows 7 or 8. That should solve the problem. [Windows 10 is a POS.]

If you can insert a micro sd card to your phone, then you can put your file there. There are cheap adapters to plug the micro sd card in the computer. My set cost me about 15$ years ago, but I use samsung, not Iphone, so I'm notsure if it'll work. Good luck.

Think there's a series called "If x we're 100% honest with us" with a good few about apple. Think their latest one really hits the mark here.

Well, for what it's worth, it isn't just you or your phone.

I have an iPhone 6, running the latest iOS version, and a Windows 10 Laptop. I attached the phone via a USB to Lightning cable, and iTunes saw it right off. But as you noted, that didn't give me a way to move photos - just music.

Win 10 also downloaded some drivers when I plugged in the phone, but no luck seeing the phone in File Explorer. The Win 10 Photos app only saw my USB hard drive as a source to import photos from, and didn't see the connected phone.

Personally, I synch my phone, computer and iPad's photos with Dropbox. Once you open Dropbox on the phone, it should continue to synch the photos even if it locks the screen. I just open DB and then set my phone aside while it updates what is in DropBox. Works just fine.

what you described looks exactly like happens to me.. sadly the amount of photos I have is big.. and for some strange reason it doesn't continue syncing when it's locked..  is strange. i'll update dropbox app, maybe that will fix the issue

Have you tried this app? I haven't yet, but it says it will do photo transfers like you want to do.

(I see it doesn't list iOS 10.x compatibility yet, however.)

I had this same problem fairly recently.  Unfortunately, I had to resort to icloud usage for any phone photos to appear on iphoto on my mac.

I dunno if there's an alternative solution or not.  I don't understand it why it didn't recognize my phone either....

Oh! I did this a while ago with my old iphone. There's a setting in windows that allows you to "show hidden files" in your control panel.

Your working with 2 closed ecosystems of computers. Apple and Microsoft... now since you have an Iphone, Windows 10, Itunes, and apparently Google Drive... I don't really see why you wouldn't trust Icloud.

With that.... I suggest seeing if your phone has some kind of removeable storage media. If that doesn't work... try an older version of Windows, or try an Apple computer and transfer over. If your bandwidth is great then upload it to some cloud service. If nothing else you could try running Linux.

Past that your looking at jailbreaking stuff and turning your phone into a temporary FTP server on your on LAN.

I found a solution!

I noticed that my iTunes on Win 10 said my iPhone needed an update, even though the version on the phone matched what it said the 'new' version was. So I allowed iTunes to update iOS on my phone. During the update, Win 10 got some new stuff installed! When it was done, I could open Windows Explorer and see the iPhone, and open the DCIM folder to access the photos on the phone.

Down side - the photos in DCIM are in individual folders, labeled with a three digit number followed by "APPLE". The folder creation dates are invalid, and the sequence of the folders makes no sense to me. It's not like the highest number is the most recent images, or that they are clearly divided by date... Still, you can grab all of it and sort them out on the PC side. The individual file properties do appear to have valid date stamps for creation and modified dates.

wow.. thats sounds great..

Sadly my Itunes says my phone is updated (firmware isn't?) IOS 10.1.1 ..when i click on "search updates" it says my phone is already on latest version  :(

Try this. Open Windows Settings, and type in "Device Manager". In Device Manger, select "Portable Devices > iPhone". Right click on "Apple iPhone, and select "Update Drivers". That should allow it to reload the current Apple drivers.

I just solved it!! :D had to plug it on another USB port in order to "refresh" the driver thing.

Thanks for your suggestions :D

Cool! Glad it was helpful! It's still a pain to sort them out once you get access via File Explorer, because of the way they sort them out into those hundreds of folders, but you should be able to at least get them. I found most of the folders had only one to three files in them, with no relationship for file dates or names. But one folder was all the HDR type photos, with a jpg version and a .mov version of each photo, where the MOV version is all the frames that HDR captured! Also found several files with different contents but duplicated file names, likely because names got reused if I deleted files on the camera. If you tell it you want to compare versions when you get those, you can choose to copy both, and it will append a number to the second and subsequent files with a duplicate name.

If all else fails, zip the pictures and e-mail them to yourself.

Starting to sound like either the cable or your phone's port is broken.

I use Dropbox to move photos and other files from my PC to my Mac and vice versa all the time.  I'd vote for that solution.

This is actually the fault of Windows 10. In Windows 10 Microsoft took control of the drivers that get installed with new devices. Often when plugging in an iPhone or iPad for the first time it will use these Microsoft provided drivers. Those drivers do not work for file transfers and only allow charging.

What you need to do is for the computer to use the Apple provided drivers that are located at C:\Program Files\Common Files\Apple\Mobile Device Support\Drivers\

Once you set it to use those drivers the iPhone will work with iTunes and the Windows Photos app.

I actually worked for Apple support until just recently and it was a common occurrence.

On Win 10 there is a Phone Companion App that should let you sync ANY phone (iphone, android, or windows phone) this will let you sync any or all info from the phone directly to the PC. The app should already be on your Win 10 PC.
