Sonic Boom Review for 11/19/2016

First off, Happy Thanksgiving Weekend! Sorry this took too long to put up. At first, I wanted to wait until the Cartoon Network episode aired, but that was going to air next week, because, for some stupid, idiotic, moronic, and braindead reason, they're gonna air all of the episodes of Teen Titans Go! all weekend. WHY?! Who would actually be excited to watch this?! I'd rather get trampled by the crazies shopping on Black Friday!

Right, gone a little off topic there... So, the new episode of Sonic Boom was out-of-this-world awesomeness. :D Very entertaining and funny. Once again, I'm going to be very descriptive and will be giving full details of the episode. SPOILER ALERT!

All right, that being said, here's my review of the new episode of Sonic Boom, which aired on November 19th, 2016.

"Spacemageddonocalypse." (Jeez... Try saying that 3 times fast...)

The episode starts just outside of the planet's atmosphere. As we hear the theme to 2001: A Space Odyssey play, (or if you're a WWE fan, like myself, the entrance theme of Nature Boy Ric Flair. WOO!) we see Orbot and Cubot, with towlines attached to them coming from a rocketship, change the battery of an Eggman satellite. Eggman, sitting at the cockpit of the rocketship, waits impatiently for them. As soon as Orbot finishes, he gets knocked away by a stray meteor. With the bungee towline, though, he heads back and knock into Cubot. as they both float in deep space, Eggman uses his rocket's weapons to destroy the incoming meteors. (I like that he sees it as an old school game. :D ) However, Eggman tries to fire at a very large asteroid, but to no avail. As his alarms go off and he sees that the asteroid is on a direct path for the planet, Eggman panics and heads back to the planet, with Orbot & Cubot still bouncing around in their bungee cords. Back on the planet, Eggman shows his two hench-bots his secret underground bunker, which he claims can withstand anything: Zombie apocalypses, misguided people handing out pamphlets (Jahova's Witnesses?! XD ), and a robot uprising. (Ha! Hmm... You think I could RSVP in Eggman's bunker? You know... Since Trump is president and all... XD Sorry, last political joke... I hope...) As they entered and Eggman proclaimed that it was just as he left it: pristine and untouched by anyone, he turned on the lights to discover empty boxes of food everywhere... Thanks to Cubot! XD As he ordered his dumb-bots to clean the place up, restock the rations, and to remove a black sharpie moustache on a poster of himself, Eggman came up with a plan. At the village square, Eggman announced that the planet was about to be hit by a giant asteroid and that everyone should come with him if they want to pay, er, live. :D Sonic, immediately sees this as one of Eggman schemes, to which Eggman said the asteroid was real... which took the joy out of the scheme. This caused the whole village to laugh at Eggman. Later, outside Tails' place, Sonic & the gang decides to see if Eggman was being truthful in his proclamation through the use of Tails' Tail-o-scope... which is just an ordinary telescope... :D When Tails looks, he sees the asteroid on its way! Sticks said it's just an alien cover-up and hopes these aliens are the peaceful kind who helps build stuff for us and not the ones who eat us. XD (Good to see they kept Sticks and her crazy one-liners in Season 2. :D ) Soon, at City Hall, Tails shows his calculation to Mayor Fink and the Sir Mouse character from the "No Robots Allowed" episode (Not sure if that's the name they gave him officially...) as Sonic & Eggman watched on. Tails explained that, according to his calculations, the asteroid will be on a direct course for the planet, to which Mayor Fink says that asteroids fly by this planet all the time and asks what are the chances of it actually hitting us. When Tails replied 100%, Mayor Fink still believes he could live with those odds. Before Tails could explain his plan to deflect the meteor, Eggman asks what the difference is between an asteroid and a meteor. Fink believes that to be a good question while Sonic really sees that Eggman's trying to distract everyone just so he can sell spots for his bunker. Tails then says that the best bet is to blow up the asteroid and send it off its current course. Eggman then suggests that they'd just let the asteroid hit the ones who haven't paid to be in Eggman's bunker. Sir Mouse then suggests that they should everyone on the planet jump to get the planet off its orbit to avoid the asteroid. (Very Patrick Star thinking there... XD ) Sonic just says that they should just leave everything to Tails. To that, Mayor Fink & Sir Mouse make a beeline to Eggman's bunker. Back outside Eggman's bunker, Eggman is full of joy believing he's going to be rich... until Orbot tells him that money would be pretty useless if there's no civilization... :D Eggman soon announces that he'll be basing his decision on who is more bunker-worthy, having everyone write a one-page essay on why they deserve to be saved. XD Meanwhile, at Tails' Workshop, Tails was perplexed as to how to stop the asteroid... until he saw Sonic adjusting his hair-quills in the mirror. Tails soon figured that, through the use of mirrors, they could use the sun's rays to focus a laser to destroy the asteroid. Though, they'll need a lot of mirrors to make this work. Soon, the gang gathered up all the mirrors they could find. Sticks, exiting her burrow with one in her hands, said it was either a mirror or a portal to a parallel universe where her evil twin is trapped! (Don't know if this was intended or not, but we see Sticks with blue eyes as she's holding the mirror, but her reflection had black eyes... :D ) "Be Gone, Evil Sticks!" XD Outside Tails' Workshop, Tails manages to put the mirrors together to make them look like a satellite dish. Tails activates it, making one mirror reflect the sunlight into a mirror, which makes it reflect into another mirror, and so on, and so on, until it fires a solar beam (Ha! Pokèmon reference...) into space. It nearly hits the asteroid, until it bounces off of random space junk. Tails says that due to the space debris between them and the asteroid, he can't fire it from his location. While Amy was busy typing up her essay ( XD ), Eggman looked at ones he already recieved and deemed them to be garbage. The fact that his evil scheme to underpay teachers didn't help matters. :D He then tells Cubot to have them draw straws. As Eggman was contemplating that he should choose someone he hated, since he believes Sonic will be crushed by the meteor, Cubot returns... with actual drawings of straws! ( XD Saw that coming!) Back at Tails' Workshop, Tails realizes that the only way to destroy the asteroid is to fire his laser in space. Amy suggests borrowing Eggman's rocket to which Tails replied that it wouldn't work, since Eggman wants the asteroid to hit the planet. Suddenly, Sonic comes up with an idea... Back outside Eggman's bunker, we now see Eggman going with the whole reality TV schtick as he gives a rose to Mayor Fink, Sir Mouse, Lady Walrus, Beaverton, & Comedy Chimp. After he proclaims them as the 5 finalists and makes everyone else go home to their doom, Sonic quickly whispers something to a police fox(?). Soon, we see the police fox towing Eggman's rocket on a large wagon platform with a motorcycle! As Eggman demanded to know what was going on, the police fox tells him that he has to follow alternate side of the street parking regulations, even in the middle of the jungle. ROFL Soon, after commandeering Eggman's rocket, Knuckles carefully puts Tails' mirror satellite laser inside the rocket. Sonic was ready for his epic space mission... except... the gang thinks Knuckles is more suited for this mission, since he's the only one strong enough to lift the machine if something goes wrong. When Sonic asks how often he literally saves the planet, Knuckles says, according to the TV listings, about once a week. XD (Once a year, if we're going by video game logic... :D ) Amy convinces Sonic that sacrificing his glory for the common good is also very heroic. (Something he did in the last episode, too, if memory serves me right...) Tails explains that his device, that he named the Solar Convergence Device, has been loaded in the Egg Rocket and that once within distance of the asteroid, he'll have to activate it. Amy, tired of Tails saying the full name of his device, asks if he could shorten the name for the sake of time. Tails agrees and calls it the S.C.D. to which Knuckles says the what. This continues for a few minutes until Tails says its full name! :D (Are we sure Knuckles is the right one we should be sending?) Tails tells Knuckles that he'll have to activate the device and get away from the asteroid as quickly as possible. Knux says got it. Tails tells him that the first thing he'll have to do is set the calibration lever to 47 degrees... to which Knux asks what the opposite of "got it" is. (Yup, we're screwed... XD ) Tails tells Knuckles that he wrote down what to do and it has pictures. :D After Knuckles gets suited up (if you've played Sonic Boom: Fire and Ice and unlocked the Season 2 concept art, you'll see Knux in that very same spacesuit.) and walks... slowly... toward the rocket for dramatic effect, he blasts off in the Egg Rocket towards the asteroid. Tails tells Knuckles via his wrist communicator that as he approaches the asteroid, its magnetic interference will disrupt the radio communication. Amy asks if Knuckles can really do this to which Tails says as long as Knux has this list, he'll be okay... Um... that very list that Tails is holding in his hand... Turns out, Tails accidentally gave Knuckles his shopping list instead! (Well, we're boned.) Knuckles decides to wing it... by crashing the rocket onto the surface of the asteroid! Knuckles tries to use the S.C.D., but since that's like asking a squirrel to file your taxes, well... Knuckles kept pressing a button until the S.C.D. spun around and shattered! (Oh, jeez...) Knuckles proclaimed that he'll have to do this the old-fashioned way. After making another 2001: A Space Odyssey joke between Knux and the ship's computer, Knux says he'll have to do this the old-fashioned-ier way. Knux breaks open the door and lands on the asteroid. He then leaps and ground punches the asteroid, shattering it into pieces! (Ha! Suck on that, Donkey Kong! You and your fake-ass moon punch!) Knux then runs as the asteroid was shattering and leaps out into space! Tails wonders if Knuckles made it while Sonic still thinks it should have been him up there. Knuckles continues to float in space until he grabs onto Eggman's satellite. He then rides it like a hoverboard back towards the drifting Egg Rocket. He leaps off of the satellite and makes his way back inside the rocket! Knuckles finally contacts Tails, letting him know that his device kind of broke, so, being a hero, he took care of the asteroid by smashing it to bits. Tails told him that the asteroid pieces were still going to crash towards them. Sonic got excited as he borrowed Amy's hammer and zips all over the village, hitting the incoming asteroid pieces with the hammer before any of them could cause any damage. As Sonic returned, Tails showed him the pictures taken from Eggman's satellite showing Knuckles as he was about to punch the asteroid. Tails couldn't believe Knux landed on the asteroid. Neither could Sticks, thinking that was shot on a soundstage. XD Sonic bragged that Knuckles may have gone to space, but he kept 30 pieces of the asteroid from destroying us. Tails then said that he counted 31. We soon found out where the 31st piece landed... right in front of the door to Eggman's bunker... And Eggman Was Trapped Inside! XD

This episode was both awesome in action and comedy! So many silly references packed into 11 minutes! Knuckles showing his crazy strength! Sticks talking crazy! Eggman being silly! Sonic coming through in the clutch! Safe to say Season 2 is more awesome than Season 1... and that's only after 2 episodes! I am really looking forward to the next episodes! Thank goodness that I won't have to wait long! :D

Get used to it that's probably what CN will become without Pokemon.

This episode is so packed, and I love how well it integrated action beats, comedy, classic references, and actual science (that solar deflection thing is based on actual NASA plans.)  Also I'm surprised at the restraint it took to wait until Season 2 to go into space, since space travel is such a common theme in Sonic games.  Of course Sonic first went into space in Sonic 2, so I guess Season 2 is a good time to do it here.
