Paypal Update 1

it's really fun doing business with paypal ! ....
they really have no idea what they are doing >:(

i had to call again because the system didn't want to accept my bank account info.
the first guy i was talking to appearently blocked my account without deleting
my old bank info and it's impossible to have two paypal accounts having the same
bank account.
and because i can't just create a second bank account for fun, i had to send them some more info to confirm my identity and stuff.

long story short: now i have to wait till monday so they can verify my bank account...
no picture set this weekend i guess...
and although i would love to write a formal complaint, i don't think i will do any good.

i guess we all have to be patient now :/

There REALLY needs to be a viable alternative to Paypal...

This bullshit monopoly they have on paying over the internet is... frustrating at best, crippling at worst..

it is...
but unfortunately, all the current alternatives are no real match for paypal right now.
for example: the site i use to manage my billing and data delivery has paypal as it's main option.
all other options are not available to me because they're restricted to the U.S. (or rather to american banks)
since i am in germany, the only secondary option i'd have is to have my very own website, and i have 0
experience with that stuff

Well, the various varieties of Bitcoin work, but it's messy and most people need to try it a few times before they trust it. I've used BC to donate to IB because they couldn't have a Paypal. And it is more anonymous.

(Most risks with bitcoin are only important if you want to invest and speculate, if the customer buys them and the artist sells them on the same day they are hard to steal).

If using Bitcoin became as streamlined as paying with Paypal or a debit card, that might just have a chance at dethroning Paypal.

I've yet to try it because.. well.. frankly I have no idea how it works.. As I'm sure is the case for most people.

That's why you're supposed to sell them at once... I'm sure Inkbunny doesn't pay their server and network charges with bitcoin either.

No, we use third-party PayPal donations for that! And generous hosts. ^_^

Amusingly the bitcoin - which we kept - has soared in value recently.
Perhaps something to do with recent financial issues?

I sympathize about the name thing; I just remembered how much of a hassle it was when I got my name changed and had to submit paperwork to that effect.

to be fair, that's also the case with regular banks if your name changed. They always want some official document to proof it.

With Paypal I just didn't bother telling them. I could change address, email and all sorts of things over the website but not the name. But who cares, I just let them keep the old name in their database.

This can become an issue when you try to register a credit card with your paypal account to verify it, and they try to charge it to the name they have been given, but that depends on your credit card issuer how strictly they check before they let the verification transaction through.

With my previous credit card it was no issue, even though both name and country were incorrect. Then, with the followup card, the transaction suddenly failed. As far as I understood because of the country mismatch, as VISA itself increased their security to prevent international credit card fraud (using card data from identity theft in the states to buy stuff on the philipines and the other way around)

(By the way, you can also not change the country your paypal account is registered under, even if you move internationally. The likely cause I think is that Paypal has different terms of use for different countries, as well as legal obligations. As they have legally a bank status, in some countries they are for example required to deliver a full list of all transactions to authorities, while in other countries giving such a list to anyone without a court order would be illegal.)
