Long story short: On October 3rd, I was turning into my mom's driveway on a parish road near a residential area. I slowed down as I looked for oncoming traffic, saw nothing, looked at mom's house as I proceeded with my turn, and looked back to the road just in time to see this blue truck slam into me. I said to myself, "Shit, this is gonna hurt" and just let myself go limp and roll with it. There was nothing I could have done to prevent it. It was already too late to react.
Car was struck broadside, my head shattered my driver side window, car spun once, then the driver side wheels caught on grass in the ditch on the second rotation and flipped my car over. My car finally stopped moving about thirty feet from the point of impact. The truck never swerved, never hit the brakes, and just plowed right through me and finally stopped about 55 feet after the point of impact. The truck's bumper was bent into its right tire and the passenger door couldn't open.
WEAR YOUR FUCKING SEAT BELT KIDS. I would be fucking dead if I hadn't have worn mine.
So fucking surreal, opening your eyes and you're hanging upside down in your car. I was able to disengage the seat belt and crawl out of the shattered driver side window. I am insanely lucky to be as okay as I am.
There is a blind spot between two hills where my line of sight was obscured. However, that wouldn't matter if the driver had been going the speed limit as there is plenty of distance to make a safe stop from that blind spot to the point of impact. The driver who hit me was a 16 year old girl who JUST got her learner's permit and was driving her grandmother to town for groceries. Grandmother doesn't have a driver's license. The girl should NOT have been driving without a licensed driver supervising her. She had to have been going at least 60MPH. The speed limit on that road is 35MPH. There are pieces of my car and windows as far as 50 feet from the point of impact, and bits of glass from my windows even further down.
My car is totaled. It is leaking transmission fluid and radiator fluid. The drive shaft is stuck on drive, and my boyfriend found part of the driveshaft near where I was flipped. Both side air bags deployed. The passenger side doors are pushed in so far that they cannot even be forced open. The hood and roof are scratched up and caved in. I have had seven x-rays and two CT scans done; I have an MRI scheduled due to the persistence of some neurological issues. Thankfully nothing major has been found yet, other than some bruising.
I limp. I hurt. I stutter. I repeat things. I forget things. I zone out and have patchy memory. My head has been killing me on and off since it happened. My right middle finger is jammed and purple. I have a huge bruise on my chest where my seatbelt jerked and held me tight. My left ear is bruised and cut up. I have a contusion on my head. My neck is stiff. My arms, elbows, hands, face, back, feet, knees, and ankles have cuts and scrapes all over them. I have several bruises in so many locations...I have a lot of bruising, whiplash like crazy, and I've developed a stuttering problem and get dizzy if I'm standing for too long. It could have been so much worse. But, I was able to walk into the ER. And I was able to walk out. No major injuries found yet, but we're getting everything checked.
I'm a little fucked up still, and most of my days have been sleeping and doctor's visits. I really, really hurt y'all.
Heh, yeah, it fucked me up a bit for sure. Still dealing with paperwork and insurance and police reports @.@ all while trying to heal and stop stuttering X3

She had her grandmother as a passenger. Problem though is that in my state, underage drivers with learning permits are forbidden to drive without a licensed adult supervising them.
Grandmother doesn't drive, and doesn't have a driver's license.
She should not have been driving. Period.

Holy shit, glad you managed to walk away hope the MRI ends up good and that the neurological issues are just temporary. I will say from being in a wreck before, no where near as bad as yours, that a chiropractor can help a lot if your chest and back keep hurting, after you recover some I mean. It helped me a lot more than pills did and the place where I live was a pretty good price too.
Holy shit, glad you managed to walk away hope the MRI ends up good and that the neurological issues
I'll see about a chiropractor once I get through this first week and hear back about my MRI. I'd hate to make anything worse than it is. I'm so freggin lucky o_o;

i've glad you're relatively ok other than the injuries you have, this is the main reason i won't drive, even tho i'm going to have to when i move, but like i said, glad you're ok and alive

Driving isn't bad or scary. I did drive my mom's jeep to an appointment two days after it happened...ended up leaving the car there and having y boyfriend pick me up and take me home. That's when the zoning out and memory issues became apparent and I didn't trust myself to drive home.
Can't let a few idiots ruin a good thing for you :) I love driving, but it's gonna be on hold for me for a bit now ^^;
Yeah I'm glad, too! Driving isn't bad or scary. I did drive my mom's jeep to an appointment two day
I'm very glad you're ok! :O That accident sounds scary!!
I really appreciate your forward-focused attitude while still acknowledging how sucky this situation is. I hope the stuttering and dizzy/memory issues clear up quickly; maybe you had a concussion or somethin. Rest, keep getting checked out, and feel better soon! ^.^

Well yeah, I mean... There's nothing that I can do now that would change what happened then. No point thinking too hard about the past when there's a long road in front of me x)
I think the worst part of the whole thing was realizing how messed up I was after the adrenaline wore off at the ER. I went to the bathroom, walked by the huge mirror over the sinks, and for the next five minutes or so I cried like a bitch. it was the first time i saw my reflection since it happened, and there was so much blood on my face and glass in my hair >_<;

I've got a story like that too from years ago when I delivered pizzas. It took a few minutes after the wreck for the reality to sink in, then the numb did-this-really-happen feelings turned into me breaking down hard. I know what you're talking about. *hugs*
While healing is all about getting back to where you once were, the process itself is a forward progression. The past happened and there's some value in hindsight, but choosing to press on has gotta help too! ^.^

"No major injuries?" Dude, you at least have a significant concussion, and if the hospital you went to doesn't consider that major, they all need retraining

The ER I went to was incredibly incompetent. I cleaned my own cuts, they didn't prod for imbedded glass or anything, and they didn't want to do a CT scan, just a few X-rays.
I saw my doctor yesterday and he was livid with the ER. I may have had swelling that day and it was down by the time I actually got a scan done. Hard to say exactly what happened. Everything was so fast and I was really out of it and couldn't reliably tell anyone what was wrong at the time.
I mean "no major injuries" as in no broken bones, no surgery needed, and no paralysis ^^; just general "fucked-upness."

~gentle hugs~ Holy shit, man. O.o Better your car than you, though, so there is that! This right here is why I've never driven a day in my life (I'm 36). Every time I even think about getting a license, something like this happens or I get hit by a car. Seriously, I've been hit by cars three times in my life so far and I've never been behind the wheel. The first time was when I was a kid on my bike, damn bitch didn't even slow down or stop to see if I was okay, she just kept driving. Second time I was tapped by a car and fell. Into the left lane. Of a five-lane highway. Fortunately I managed to get up before anything bad happened, but I forgot to get her information. I was just so hopped up on adrenaline I just wanted to get out of there before I punched her. Third time I was walking home earlier this year and the car clipped the back of my right calf.
I tell you, I swear these brain-dead crash test dummies are getting their driver's licenses out of a fucking Cracker Jack box.
~gentle hugs~ Holy shit, man. O.o Better your car than you, though, so there is that! This right h
Right off the bat glad to hear you're okay. I can say that there were two things I read that you did correct. 1. Go limp and 2. Wear your seat-belt. #1 is why in most drunk driving cases the non-drunk always ends up worse, its because you tense up before a crash. And I don't know if I skipped over it or not, but you may have a concussion based on the fact you repeating, forgetting things and getting dizzy. My grandpa had a bad rollover wreck where he rolled 5-6 times at highway speed after hydro-planing and he ended up having a concussion with those symptoms and they still plague him today about 2 years later.
