Post Party Edit: Welp, turns out I was kinda sorta right, but wrong as well. The Generations sequel (Or what appears to be one) is still a thing, but Classic Sonic is rendered in three dimensions just as he was in Generations. The sixteen bit Classic Sonic is it's own game, headed by Christian Whitehead on his Retro Engine. But I'm genuinely surprised that we're getting two main games next year, and it's actually really cool. 2017 is going to be amazing!
So now that we're about two hours (If I did my internal math right) away from the party, I wanna go ahead and share my prediction for the new game.
Based on some of the things the social medias have been posting in the last few months, there's a lot of Classic Sonic being thrown around, and I mean a lot. So that leads me to believe that it's at least partially going to have Classic Sonic in it. The next thing I've noticed is that they've been posting things that has sixteen bit Genesis era sprites being 'converted' to rendered models. Such things are the header on Twitter (and maybe Facebook, I'll have to look into that), and a gif of a Sonic 2 (I think?) Sonic sprite going into a ring and coming out as a render of Modern Sonic.
So, all of this leads me to the impression that the game will be similar concept-wise to Sonic Generations in that it will dual-feature Classic and Modern Sonic. However, I believe it will differ in that it'll be a new, original (somewhat) adventure, in which the player will have the ability to switch between the two Sonics on the fly. Classic Sonic will be rendered in sixteen bit graphics, with his old gameplay style, while Modern will of course be in three dimensions and will have a new kind of gameplay style. In my mind, I can imagine that it'll be a cross between the Adventure style and the Boost style.
I read a comment on the news site I frequent that ran with this idea and proposed that it's a sort of time travel aspect, that the two don't interact and instead stay in their own times. There's a new threat that would require being defeated in the two time periods, and as such, the Sonics would have to work together. I think this would be neat, and I wish I could take credit for this idea, but sadly I can't.
Of course it's been said it would release in 2017, and I think more specifically it'll be in March, or April at the latest. I can't really see them holding it back for so long after not having a game since 2013.
So that's my predictions for the new possible game that may be announced at the party in a few hours. What do you guys think?
