I've been pretty exhausted lately. I've been eating a little healthier, sleeping more, and trying to be more responsible with money. But the biggest issue I've had, historically, has been sleep. It's easy to make general mandates for yourself like "I work A to B so I'm going to sleep from Y to Z". Sticking to them is not as easy. I occasionally fall asleep earlier which makes me wake up earlier. It's far from an exact science.
The biggest hindrance for me is that most of the people I interact with through this site are most active from 8 or 9pm to as early as 3 or 4am CST. Some of it has to do with time zones. Some people work off shifts. But, as you can imagine, it's not always reasonable for me to be awake all night long. So what's the big deal? People are understanding, right?
Having been physically exhausted, I took a bit of an involuntary nap in the evening and woke up a couple hours ago with hundreds of missed messages. Granted, most of them were in chats (For the record, it would be really cool if you would IM me privately first before pulling me into one. My phone is attached to Skype.), some of them were direct messages to me. I don't read through all the chats. If I see that the person who sent me a direct IM is online (actual online-available status, not invisible or DnD), I will USUALLY try to reply; but it's very often that I miss them. The individual results of these encounters vary from "No worries. I was just bored at work." to "You never message me anymore. Nobody ever messages me anymore. I'm tired of having to be the person to initiate every conversation.".
I'll stress this again: I provide best-effort service in replying to IM's and do so during my variable, awake, non-working hours. The cost of having my near-guaranteed attention 5 days a week isn't cheap. I don't go through and wipe my contacts like some people do. There are friends I hear from infrequently that have been close to me for years. Priorities in replies typically go from texts (asap) to skype (reasonably soon?) to telegram (daily?) to twitter (maybe) to facebook (not recommended).
So that's pretty much where I'm at. As I physically adjust to being alive during daylight hours, it will get more difficult to respond to messages at the hours people are accustomed to. Unfortunately, that is just a side effect of prioritizing rl. The working world operates from about 6am to 6pm (7am to 2pm for banking needs). None of this should come as news to anyone that knows me.
tl;dr - As much as I'd like to talk to you, I get busy. Leave your status as "Online" if you want a reply.
