I can see the positives for the artist. no need to come up with a pose to the commissioners wishes. it is often an auction so it can make you more money for less work then a regular commission. And if the artist is too busy to do many commissions it can let them maximize their earnings potential. On the view of the person paying though those are all negative things. The only benefit mostly would be knowing roughly what the finished commission will look like which is helpful if the artist is bad at following pose directions or is inconsistent on how good of a pose they come up with. Also if an artist is crazy popular and their commission que fills up very fast ,it can allow those able and willing to pay more to get a slot. Over all its something I dont mind artists doing to a degree but if thats the majority of the way they do their commissions ,then its annoying. Its totally the artists prerogative to do them if they wish. But lots of times it is not much benefit to those doing the buying.

if its extra to regular commissions like I said thats no problem. any one type of commission (first come first served on a list, auction to highest bidder, ych ) are all different things that would benefit different people . If an artist does one kind exclusively some people will miss out.
