I'm Back! Question For Those Of You Adventureous

by
Well I'm back from my little vacation so i wanted to announce something and ask something, in that order.

The first is that I'll try to be more active in the next bit. I have multiple comics started and ongoing that should allow some regular content from me. Plus of course random pics from time to time. I'm still unsure about the content of one said comic, and whether or not i will post it though, but others i will for sure!

Now the questions. So on my vacation i had to chance to do something i had never done before, i went to a Orchestrated Pokemon concert and it... was... AMAZING! This has cased a spark in me to want to do more things i was always afraid to, go to conventions, visit places, try a furry event of some type, etc.

Now where the question comes in is to those of you who have done/or frequently do such things, My biggest issue is I'm alone on this, and I'm afraid to go to any of these things all by myself. So what i ask is what experience can you share with me and advice, is it too dangerous to go alone? Have some of you done it? Anything you recommend? etc. I want to try to branch out more but I'm also to scared to do it, if that makes sense x.x

Anyways thanks for reading and i hope you like upcoming stuff!

Splitting a room among 3 or 4 friends makes things much cheaper. Also, go to a small con first. Two people I've roomed with were overwhelmed with the bigger cons and also experienced a bit of culture shock. Was still worth it though.

Thank you for responding. Part of the issues is not having these friends to room with or go with ^^;; that's why i was asking about how it would be to go alone.

Well there is at least one advantage of getting a room by yourself if you want to bring someone in for something dirty =9

I've gone to 5 cons so far, all but one of them on my own. They're a great deal of fun, but it just depends how comfortable you are around strangers. Worst part for me was having to split rooms with people I don't know, as I have enough trouble sleeping as it is. Start with something small like GLFC rather than anthrocon to dip your feet into or you might find yourself overwhelmed. All in all, I've only ever had one bad experience and that was just a drunken roommate. They really are a lot of fun, and about 95% of the furs that I've met at them are awesome. :3

Thank you for responding. I would for sure have to go alone at this rate. I am not a social butterfly at all, so i don't think i'd do well just dropped in with strangers... Smaller cons seems to be the suggestion from people. Thank you for the advice

I've been to almost fifty furry conventions, and I wouldn't say they're particularly dangerous, although it helps to have some basic level of being able to operate without people walking all over you. :-)

In my experience, people you stay with will typically be nice, even if you don't know them personally. But if you have concerns, ask them if there's anyone else who they've stayed with before, or do a quick online background check yourself.

As others suggested, a nearby, relatively small event may be most suitable. You could also go to informal furmeets to meet people who might be interested in going to a larger event with you, if there are any nearby.

If you are uncomfortable about anything at an event, talk to the staff for advice - at many events there is a 24-hour "convention operations/conops" or security presence.

Thank you very much for responding. Wow that is a lot ^^ I can be a doormat so i could see that being a concern i didn't consider...

I wouldn't even know how to find people to stay with even let alone needing to research them x3

I tried a fur meet once, it didn't work out though and that opportunity is now gone. I appreciate all your advice, thank you very much.

Most conventions have forums with room-share sections or something similar. Of course you can't always tell who the person is from a forum, which is where Google comes in helpful. Take it all with a pinch of salt - a website or Twitter account doesn't fully say who a person is, either.

What's the content of this comic you're unsure about?
