Commission Theift  - 100percentamazing

This is an informative journal and a warning to other artists to not do work with 100percentamazing They have taken a commission from me, and once it was completed they openly refused to pay in any timely manner or give me any solid idea on when they could pay, giving me the vague 'maybe in September or maybe not' answer. If they have requested a commission from you, beware and be sure to get payment up front, or else risk not getting anything at all.

Due to commissioners like this, with my next round of commission I will be asking for payment when I start the sketch from anyone who I haven't done work with before. The current list of commission and practices for the remaining on the list will be unchanged for now.

Again, do not work with 100percentamazing . They WILL steal your work.

EDIT:
Apparently this person has a history, so this wasn't a misunderstanding or bad timing, they full intend on stealing work from commissioners.

As a rule, I NEVER take commissions from someone with an empty or new gallery. Unless I know for a fact it's a friend of a friend. Always get payment up front or only give a watermarked and tiny preview till pay clears. If they post your art, report the heck out of them.

You should make a post about them on Artist Beware on Livejournal. That way others can see the warning.

That's not the least bit fair. Not everyone is an artist.

No one said that the person buying has to be an artist. Just that they have things in their gallery, other commissions count as that. It's much more comfortable knowing they have bought from others with no issues.

Well, that's still not a reliable nor trusting method to measure a user's reputation. Anyone can just make a new account and randomly favorite things. What about people requesting a commission for the first time?

Just asking for the whole payment up front is enough.

Exactly, anyone could just make a new account. That is why I don't like new or empty accounts. It's not a foolproof way of telling who's trustworthy, but it's something. I see some really bad stories, like Kandlin's, even with pay up front people. The guy that shafted him had an empty account. So that would have raised some red flags to me. It might not be great for new commissioners, but artist need to protect themselves first.

Editing to add something: If I'm asked by someone that IS new to commissioning, I would consider doing the commission for something safe like Deviantart points or sub, Flight Rising gems, or something in TF2 like keys or unusual hats. Those are things I would have bought anyway if I had the money. That way they can build a reputation and not be refused by artists for being new.

That's one of the reason why I don't do commission.

...
The other being that I can't...

Live Journal is alien to me. I've got my password back, but still trying to figure out the proper way to submit the name/info to the group. One of these days though....

Try contacting others that do know, like Strawberry Neko.

Looks like it takes about two weeks after submitting the info for processing. Which is understandable, given the mods all are very busy.

Sorry to hear that happened to you.  People like these are the reason why I'm super cautious about anything I do money-wise.  What I always do is ask for payment up-front, unless it's a big project in which case I ask a little up-front, and the rest at different steps of the art process.

Yeah artist beware that for sure

As a commissioner, and not an artist, -I- get uncomfortable when the artist doesn't ask for half up front at a minimum.

I always get my money up front.

While I never do up-front payment, I never upload the work to show them, either. I only prompt them to pay once I simply say it's done.  This keeps BOTH sides honest.

Warning received and acknowledged.

At least you have other places to posts, like here and may be in the future Pixiv.

Haven't posted anything to Pixiv in a dog's age.

May be a good time to start again. Not as limited as the sites you're left posting to now, and it can broaden your exposure with out trying to cheat you out of money.

Yeah, this is why I started with the whole "half now half later" policy when I first began.  Figured that if people can shaft you up close, what's to stop them from doing it online?

Really sorry to hear that Kandlin, that guy is a super dick, not to mention that bs on FA with a journal like this. Swear the admins or mods are the biggest dumbasses most of the time

The last pic you did for me was amazing, and really meaningful. To think someone would just take advantage of your good nature and desire to do good work disgusts me. I've Sorta had it happen before, but I'm a nobody. I can't imagine why anyone would take the chance to get one of your pics for granted and stiff you for your time and energy.

It really is a very big shame.

Ponies.
Ponies, ponies, ponies, ponies, ponies..... ponies.
Namely their MLP character as a EG hanging with Adagio (non-adult).

Money first and you may get the opposite problem. An artist who never actually does your commission. I've run into a few of them.

I think meeting halfway is the most logical approach.

Well my friend, I can only talk for me,  you know this is my only real work, doing commissions is what gives me money for pay all my bills and have a decent life.. my opinion is not just based in simple preferences. it's based in my 11 years of experience working on Palcomix, and hundreds (if not over thousend) of commissions... but of course at the end is up to the artist too, some people feel too much presure when they receive the money, specially the artist who knows in beforehand that they will delay making the respective work.

Just to keep you in the loop, this person is a regular stealer and another person's experience with them can be found here: http://vavacung.deviantart.com/journal/First-Blacklist...
So keep an eye open for the OC, it seems to be their main ID.

I always expect to be asked for money first when commissioning. And when I did do the odd commission, I took it in advance. Sorry to hear, how much did he rip you off for?

I have commissioned a few pieces in my time.  Some I was lucky to get out of winning a raffle.  But when I've paid my commissions from those like TheLandofOOO or anyone else, I always pay first in the full amount straight away.  Never done me wrong so far, and I've always liked what I've gotten.

Rule of Acquisition #16:  A deal is a deal.

As for the guy who ripped you off, Artists Beware him.  He deserves his punishment unless he finally pays you.
