A line of coding has been added to FurAffinity in which the site datamines your browsing habits AND purchases. As a result, after you visit FA, any sites you visit are recorded via Viglink. Any purchases you make after visiting FA then give a comission to FA. This coding has been in operation, and not disclosed to users for the past 5 days (as of the original date of this post, 08-31-2011).
Of course, this wonderful bit of coding was in violation of the TOS, and only after FA was caught did the TOS get changed to reflect that you're now making money for a fat bastard with a penchant for powdered donettes. See, users are told by teh TOS that their ata will not be mined or sold. And additionally, US FederAl law states that such a change MUST be presented to users of a service. In essence, this act was HIGHLY ILLEGAL and merits a suit.
And if anyone is putting together a class action suit, I'll be more than happy to give you my email address for further contact.
Update: Update: Sadly, ever time you use FA now, unless you;re using script-blocker, you will have to go back to the Vlglike site to opt put of the service.

Adjusting your hosts file accordingly can solve this issue:

And for good measure add these to your incoming/outgoing ip/url block list(s): 174.129.254.214 viglink.com 184.73.227.52 api.viglink.com

If you wish to use this, please give original credit. Thx.
Was debating putting it out there myself...I just didn't want to sound like the dusche who seems to be crying wolf out here all alone...for the _entire_ time FA's been up.
(Including its past bad decisions)

Naw, when a site breaks the LAW they should be held accountable. But keep in mind, this was posted 08-31-2011. They changed their TOS the same day they were caught, but unless users went to the main page, the change probably wasn't detected by users.
Oddly enough though, I think that MLP banner got more attention and complaints than the breech of the TOS and FTC laws.

Browsing habits are recorded as well. You might not buy anything (more power to you) but if you look at something to stumble across something of interest, that gets recorded as well.

Well this is certainly a journal I'm glad I stumbled upon. Thankfully it looks like the firefox add-on 'Adblock plus' has already stopped the blasted script from loading, though for those without the thing it could be a nasty surprise indeed.
