I recently finished my first week at my new job, and I'm about to enter my second. It was a physically-demanding first week, but getting my first paycheck from my foreman and seeing the difference in pay rate really does brighten the whole thing. A more livable wage~
Overall, I've come to discover that I have a lot to learn, and a lot to prove. I'm a clear underdog apprentice here, new to construction, new to the blue-collar, "trained labor" work force -- and I can feel everyone from my foreman to the clean-up staff sizing me up, testing my endurance and aptitude.
It's a whole different outlook, and a different attitude, in this field. Very blunt, sometimes gruff and extremely arrogant. The social game played here has no sugar-coating around it: it's straightforward, man-to-man, and not for those with sensitive skin. You'll get harsh words here and rude comments, and you'll find yourself having to match wits in order to keep up.
It's... kind of intimidating, really. ^^;
But, I'm going to do my very best! Whatever it takes to become skilled in the trade, whatever it takes to leave a lasting impression~
