An event that change my life as an artist

http://i.imgur.com/exGkJOE.jpg (All image, except #2 - gone forever)

5th Nov 2013 - the darkest day in my life.
I select the wrong drive to install bootable windows installation; formatting the hard drive which contain lots of musics, videos, game ISO's and also my precious artwork. I have approx more than 100 artworks in that drive, about 22+ of them is in WIP.

I take much time on perfecting image #6 and 7. I can recover those files using recovery software (RecoverMyFiles is my fav), but most of it are corrupt and can't open.

My heart and hope drops to the ground, depression sets in and wishing not to continue drawing. I should blame myself for this simple mistake I've done.

I can post the recovered artwork but after that, I'll drop myself from drawing to get my mind off of it; god knows how long I'll be "gone".

So, I'll see you when I see you.

Regards
Faiz, twin tailed wolf

----

P.S - I express my deepest apology to the following artist;
pikuna inctastic - His Dark Mind 12 image featuring your character and suppose to be a birthday present, but it's gone. I'll make up by creating a new one someday.
lyeric - Artwork for contest; gone. I'm unable to create a new one due to limited time and also close to deadlines.
chromefox - Gift artwork featuring Babe with Fluffy; also gone. ^^;

Have you tried a format recovery tool?

I have used all kinds of file recovery programs, all came up the same results. I'm able to properly recover 90% of the artwork, while the rest is corrupt. I can't open it in any way. Once it's corrupt, it's gone.

If corrupt try a different recovery program or picture viewing software. Hell maybe even try changing the file extension to a picture one if it was a psd or sai. Still might have to be redrawn but atleast you'll have the original. Don't just give up due to one little hiccup. Delay the contest and all. Trust me they will understand as everyone makes mistakes and have computer issues. Fight back from this kick to the hell this is right to the balls or boobs whichever ya have. Either way you're an amazing artist and to lose you to such a thing would be a huge loss to many.

I'll only drop from drawing temporarily until I forget this dark event and also destroy the artblock.

INSTEAD of abandonng us, why not start backing your stuff on DAs Sta.sh, or Dropbox? your art is a huge inspiration to me, and I would hate to see someone of your caliber completely disappear off the face of the art world.

I normally keep my file in original PSD or SAI file format, and the file size definitely huge.
I drop from drawing, but temporarily until I am no longer remember this dark event. In addition, I have bad art block at this moment. T_T

That isn't problem, external hard drive is good solution for keeping backups of large files.

I don't blame you for feeling upset. It was a silly mistake, but much easier to make than you might imagine, anybody might have done the same. If you feel like you need some time away to get over it, then we'll see you when you get back.

In the mean time, it would be a good idea to get an external, back-up drive. MacOSX comes with a program called "Time Machine" that keeps incremental back-ups of your internal HD on an external drive and lets you go back to each back-up to find what you might have lost. (There's probably at least one equivalent app for 'Doze.)

Sorry to hear it. I hope you can recover from this because you have a nice style. But take all the time you need, I hope the depression goes away and you take this as an opportunity to improve your skills and possibly remake those pics even better than they were before. To avoid this in the future make sure you have digital content in at least 2 different places (one of those places should be 'off-site' in case of a fire or something horrible). Good luck.

always recommend some kind of backup, for anything really. I probably have about 5 different various external hard drives that I keep things on. Even have one that I can use as my own personal cloud storage. Really sad to hear that you've lost all that time and energy with the art, I can imagine how it would feel for like when a game you've been playing for hours messes up and looses your data or something else that you put your time and concentration into.

its a real shame that you would take this loss as such a thing to turn you away from drawing.
here i hoped to get art from you. ;.; - sucks to lose art, but one shouldnt make one lose heart.
