About my Prices

Alright, friends and family, it's time I put something into perspective. My artwork and how much it costs. I have been asked again by somebody how much it would cost for me to do something for them in X style and X set-up. I told them it would probably run them close to $200. They said "nevermind" and went on their merry way.

They were expecting me to do a piece that would take me 20+ hours for $50. My work comes out to about $10 - $12 per hour. If you want me to work for 20 hours and only pay me $50, that means you think my time is only worth $2.5 an hour. Do you honestly think that is fair? Think about your job and how much you are paid, per hour. Would you like it if somebody decided that your work was only worth less than half of minimum wage?

No, I do not give discounts either for friends and family either. So please don't even joke about it.

So please, consider this the next time you go to ask me for artwork.

Most of the time when being commissioned there's an understanding that you're paying for a perceived level of quality without regards to hours worked. *nod*

I understand your reasoning. But, some artists take 10+ hours per piece and would then be forced to charge 80$ for x3

it's a weird economy

Oh, I understand most artists work based on quality - as do I.  But my quality and hours spent on it evens out to about $10 - $12 per hour.  A $200 piece, of high quality and detail, takes me about 20 + hours to do.  Equally, a sketch takes me about 90 minutes and I charge $15 for that.

yep C: corporate budgets and all that. us plebs need to find artists who offer laxer, more approachable pricing points xD

That's reasonable. I've seen gougers in the industry charge twice as much.

∑(;°Д°) !! if i could get $50 for my artwork i would EXPLODE! (in a good way)
that's more than i make in a month! in fact that's basically what i make a year.
but I'm an amateur artist and i live in a poor country so $50 just seems like a fortune to me i guess lol.

someone like you that does art professionally has invested many hours of your life developing your skills and there is a bit of your soul in every piece you do, so i would say your price is fair.
specially considering the quality of your work, dang girl that's one fine gallery you has!

And I think you are under-selling yourself.  You have some pretty good talent and should charge at least $5 per sketches.  I honestly think you could make a good seller-base for yourself.

Also, thank you for the compliments on my work.

you really think so senpai? ^_^ thank you so much *hug*
O_O if i could get $5 per sketch i... i could make a living from drawing... a comfortable living.
heck i can even afford coloring pencils then and start doing things in color even.
(っ◔◡◔)っ ♥ your so nice to give me hopes like these Star.

I really think so! You have a lot of potential in your style, and I truly think if you find the right audience, you can sell your work. :)

T_T senpai you are so kind!
(ΦωΦ)i simply must gift you something!  "¬_¬ not sure what though, so I'll go think of something then suddenly appear from nowhere and surprise you with a picture...^_^ unless there is anything you want me to specifically draw?
StarChildebrite

i was MORBIDLY depressed all week, then you and https://inkbunny.net/NitrousOxide made me so happy that i was literally prancing around dancing to silly music! (no, really it was like i was high on happiness lol)

thus I'm definitely going to draw each of you something (already raided your gallery and favorites for ideas on what to draw ^_^)
(`ヮ´)ノ so there is no escaping my gratitude ♥
if you have anything at all that you would like to see drawn I'll gladly draw it for you, if you can't think of anything I'll just concoct something, but a gift i shall draw you!

Even the most expensive fandom artists, with a few exceptions, do charge incredibly low prices compared with industry standards for custom artwork outside the fandom. Your prices are high, Star, only because a lot of artists undersell themselves, some it seems because of low self-esteem, or because customers pitch a fit if they're higher (if one can afford to wait for those who do pay more, let 'em complain! They just look like fools, especially when they go, "But your art isn't worth that much!" Excuse me!?) I think, for the quality you give, your prices are great.

Thank you for your kind words, Alyssa.  And you're exactly right - a lot of people do undersell themselves.

I know the feeling. I get the same thing with my chain mail...people like a certain bunny *cough cough* don't think my work is worth diddly-squat. But a guy who commissioned me and paid 100% down (a very satisfied customer) wore his chain mail to a hunting range under his clothes for shits and giggles.

Next day, I get a picture in my email. I don't know what it is. But when I ask, he replies, "That's the bullet that the chain mail stopped. Someone let a stray go and it STOPPED dead in the mail."

And certain people think I can't charge $7500 for a suit of chain mail? Bull fucking shit.

Edit: If I had the money to commission you, I'd do it in a heartbeat.

Wow! That's neat that your craft literally saved somebody's life. :)  And you have all right to charge as much as you do for your craft as it is high quality. :3

I don't get too many orders, but when I go to Renfaire I don't come back with any of my pieces :)

And next time I get an order done, I'm going to commission you for a character design. :3
