A Question Concerning NSFW Drawings

So I have been getting quiet a few mature or adult commission jobs, and though I have not been uploading them to my gallery I was wondering if I should start doing that?

The concern I have is that I'm worried that if I start doing that people may think that my Raven Wolf comic will have NSFW content in it, and may become disappointed to find none of that when they read through it. This problem perhaps doubling via the commissions that have been requested that even feature characters from Raven Wolf.

I thought over the idea of making another account as to keep this one PG, but I'm not sure if I want to go through the trouble of trying to handle two accounts in each of my galleries. (this would really only affect inkbunny, sofurry, furaffinity maybe weasly. As they are the only sites where I actually get NSFW commissions from, plus I wanna keep my dA clean as that's the one my mom likes to follow my work on) and add all that up and well, it just seems like a lot of unnecessary work.

Anyway, opinions or suggestions on the matter?

As long as you make the distinction clear, that just because some of your work is adult, that doesn't mean the comic will be, should be fine.

A good idea for me to keep in mind.

The NSFW pictures are few and far between at this point, though that may change if I start uploading them (depending on commission requests of course) though I'm fairly certain that I do not have to worry about them overtaking my gallery, and as long as that doesn't happen I don't think I will have to worry about my comic.

the truth is, most people should no be reading web comics at work anyway.

My thought is as long as they are smart enough to read the G rating they should be fine. besides your raven wolf work is good enough that even those looking for smut might stay and read. I plan on using a separate gallery for my NSFW content.

then again, people may want to read their office internet usage policy before surfing IB anyway.

Well I didn't mean that they would be reading at work, it's more just the idea of adding mature or adult work to my generally clean gallery. I suspect that these images will be very few though compared to my clean works.

My general concern is that people may not want to see stuff like that coming from me, but so far it seems the general conciseness on inkbunny so far is that people don't mind, or would like to see content like that from me, and the filter system indeed works wonders for keeping you from seeing content you don't want to see.

Two accounts would be pretty hard to establish, however, see if you can set just atleast one website for NSFW. Since it's your art you have a choice on the commissions. I would like to see RW NSFW at some point but I'd rather like seeing a decent PG comic with a knack of that every-other-day aww and grr. So if you were to set a nsfw art, set it on one website, therefore you can handle nsfw and sfw there while maintaining clean artwork on the other.

No worries about my comic remaining PG - PG-13 I don't plan on changing the content and turning it into a NSFW comic, the pictures in question are solely commissions that I get, and sometimes I do indeed get asked to include my Raven Wolf characters in.

My NSFW art would only be on my inkbunny, sofurry and furaffinity accounts, my dA and other places that host my art or comics will still remain clean, so that would be the 'one website' (though... that's more than one) with the NSFW pieces.

I know a few artists that do duel accounts. yes, its a pain, but it does allow you to separate your SFW from you NSFW. and its MOM safe, or at least mom resistant.

Truth be told my mom doesn't care if I draw adult art. It's just that *I* feel really weirded out by the idea that my mom might be looking at a mature image that I've drawn <.<

I could see how that would be weird. http://s3.amazonaws.com/rapgenius/90876_10138.jpg

Here on IB, ratings aren't so much an issue, since we have an effective keyword/rating blockage system, something FA lacks. (Can't say for sure about SF, even though I have an account there, but I seem to recall they have a fair blocking system.)

Which then leads to the inevitable question any artist/writer (we both are the latter) must ask: How far is your comfort zone? :)

Don't worry so much about us who follow you, but whether you're comfy with it- It's your art and stories, you should be able to post whatever you want. :)

I'm unlikely to commission you, for financial reasons, but if I did, it'll most likely be something original- You are good, both as a writer and an artist.

I don't particularly care for adult content myself, but I am mature enough not to go "ewww a nipple, that's gross omg this artist is a pervert" and I do live in reality where I need to pay bills and sometimes only people wanting naughty commissions are willing to pay me for my work.

Though I don't care either way when doing commissions for some reason I still don't feel comfortable putting it in my novel writings or comic based off it's story, I guess I just really like my writing to hover in the PG to PG-13 range.

To sum it up, I don't mind drawing it as commissions (even if they do feature my characters), just don't ask me to include it in the actual story chapters / pages.

i'd say set up a seperate account for safety sake, easier than having the folk looking at the wrong thing for the wrong reasons.

I'm hoping that if I do upload more mature work that I can keep it all on the accounts I already have, as I don't plan on doing much compared to my comic work or clean pieces.

Personally i would not worry about it. Those who truely enjoy the comic for what it is will not care if has that material or not. Also inkbunny is not the kind of site anybody who values their job should be viewing during company time.

Thanks for the support.

I indeed hope that if I do upload such pieces that people can still enjoy my comic even though it will not be featuring anything over a PF-13 rating. From the looks of the responses I have gotten so far on inkbunny it's not something I need to worry too much about.

I know i will enjoy the comic regardless of your other postings. Keep up the phenomenal work

You shouldn't worry about it, IB has alot of NSFW anyway, so people who are on IB are likely not at work, or not signed in while at work. Not being signed in only allows the SFW content to be shown. I think so long as your comissioners are ok with you uploading their comission, you should do it.
Kurapika

I think I worry cause I've noticed that a lot of artists, once they decide to start uploading mature art, start to work more and more on that until that's all their gallery consists of. So I don't want my watchers and future watchers to think that I am going to be doing the same thing with my work =x
Reyos
10 years, 7 months ago
Part of that may be because thats what their comissioners want, mature art, and once they show they are willing to do it, and the quality they put to it, comissioners come to them for it more often. Your art quality is already known, though not the specific parts that are coverd in mature art, and here you have put forth your willingness to do sexual art. Granted may of those that might comission an adult piece may not read this journal.

As long that you state clearly that your official comic is pg-13 I see no problem with having an account with both sfw and nsfw. Watchers are mostly mature enough to understand the difference and/or set their inkbunny account to not see the nsfw.
Kurapika

Thanks, it's good to know that so many people are being / will be mature about this.

Though I never thought I would have to go out of my way to state that Raven Wolf is PG-13, it certainly wouldn't hurt me to do so.

One option is to make a second account and have someone else take care of its day-to-day operation. I for one would gladly volunteer to do so.
Kurapika

I'm not too keen on the idea of making more accounts, but so far judging from responses it doesn't seem as if I really need to make another for inkbunny
SadoraNortica

People should be working at work anyway. :p As long as you put warnings and rate everything you should be fine. People who only want to see the pg-13 stuff probably have the filters on anyway so they won't see the smut.
Kurapika
10 years, 7 months ago
I suppose this is very true, even I use the filters to keep from seeing a few themes that I don't particularly care for on inkbunny.
SadoraNortica
10 years, 7 months ago
You and me both. I have so many tags filtered and find more to add every few months.
S1erra

Well the comic already has its G-rating obvious so as long as you put the appropriate warnings and disclaimer that your comic will NOT be adult-rated,I think you'll be fine.
SFW content like comics shouldn't be viewed at work or school anyway, and there are filters for content.

If another account's too much work then you could upload them to a site like e621?
Its no trouble for your current accounts but I think you have to make one to post on that site.
DA is the only one to worry about.Just make sure there are no links there.
Kurapika
10 years, 7 months ago
e621? *googles* There are so many sites that I have yet to learn about on this crazy internet thing...

Anyway, from the responses so far I don't think I have to worry about making a separate account as long as I appropriately tag and label my images, and I don't plan on uploading naughty pictures on dA (that's where my mom and family watches my art) so no worries there.
S1erra

That's good, though I mean link to DA as in others posting links to your DA profile as the artist instead of your others.

You can always make it a pool of NSFW and hide it from guests viewers.
Kurapika

Very good idea, I will make sure to do this if I indeed decide to upload them.

Agreed!

This is the simplest and most sensible thing I can think of. (This may not be any assurance, but whatever.)

I don't think it will be a problem. Lots of people do both clean and mature art.

Do what makes you feel the most comfortable. :3
I personally would be intrigued to see some of your adult work, but I totally understand why you would prefer not to display it in your public galleries.
Kurapika
10 years, 7 months ago
I will of course keep this in mind =)

Granted if I do decide to upload my mature commissions it would not be all of them, there is still some content / situations that I don't really feel comfortable featuring in my gallery, the idea of posting adult art's got me nervous enough, so I'm not gonna post any that I might be uncomfortable with.
ZenithFyr

-nods- That's a good way to do it! :3

Love your comic and would love to see the NSFW commisions.  You could only post the NSFW on the IB or Sofur site.
Salmy
10 years, 7 months ago
I'd think that in your case, since NSFW art is an *exception* and actually has nothing to do with your comic, which is what you mainly work with, it'd be better to make a secondary account. Link to it on your profile, advertise it in your journal here from time to time so people know about it, and that way both things will have their place :)
TehProGai
10 years, 7 months ago
You could just stick your NSFW work in a separate pool. Tag each submission properly. That should solve the confusion problem between pics and Raven Wolf! :)

And, let's not forget, this is the furry fandom we're in. I'm sure after the first day of uploading the first few adult commissions, you won't have to be nervous for long. xD And I really hope, and this isn't my inner pervert typing this, that you won't hold anything back. It really saddens me that artists refuse to post specific pics to the public due to fear of negative feedback/critique, complaints, insults, flaming/trolling, etc etc.

There's no need to be nervous. Just take in the initial response and keep doing what you do best. :D

I do love your Raven Wolf comic, but why not upload NSFW content to a different pool?

I navigate Raven Wolf using the pool feature.
coyfox

Or, for that matter, just ask the IB admins if you can make a secondary account, and upload to that?
