Those goddamned tweened animated icons.

Seriously. They're nothing but annoying. @_@

Which ones are you talking about?

For example,
Salmy
Salmy
's icon. This'd be far better if I could actually remember the examples I am actually thinking of (the ones with the whole body shaking in a repetitive motion), but it's an example of the sort of animation I mean.

Edit: And yes, I realize I'm indirectly offending a moderator. I'm sorry that's the case, but dangit, I'm allowed to say these things.

Tweened as in the person that animates them, right?
Flygon
5 years, 1 month ago
...no.

I mean the animation style.

OH, okay. Yeah sometimes they're annoying.

Adblock Plus lets you selectively block images! :D
Flygon

That gets really tedious after the 50th image or so.

Also, it becomes really really tedious to read people's names. :B

I'm not trying to ask for a rule change, far from. I'm just stating that this thing bugs me. And surely it isn't just me, either.

My only defense for my FA icon is that it's 100% hand animated. :D

Now you shoot yourself in the foot...

Anyway, I partly agree with you when I remember those fast spinning avatars which made no sense to spin at all.

Also adblocking gif doesn't help much since animated png doesn't have it's own extension (supposed to be mng, but it's been dropped in masse).

MNG is a seperate format to APNG.
MaDrow
5 years, 1 month ago
Yeah but both have the same goal in mind; extending png by adding animation support using png's data structure.
Flygon
5 years, 1 month ago
Yes, but APNG's can be displayed using a PNG renderer. MPG's can't.
MaDrow

Depends if the PNG renderer supports animation at all |=(X3
And for the rest, true about that~ |=(:3
Flygon

Which rest?
MaDrow

Just that you're right about APNG's can be displayed using a PNG renderer and MPG's can't.

That's really true, I do find them annoying as well.

Heh... I never made a journal about it because of the incoming flack.

i find it annoying too, shows no effort put into animation and it's done as quick as possible...
Flygon

Precisely.

That, and it looks bad.

What about tweened 3D animations? *gets shot* =P
Nah, just kidding, but I know what you're talking about, the fact that the animation in certain avatars look too stretchy, wonky, bland, cheap and just overall 'bad'. ^^;

Tweening animations isn't 'all bad' it's just when its incorporated quickly without much prior thought behind it, that's when it stands out like a sore thumb. =w=

Oh, trust me. I know precisely what you mean. It most certainly does have it's time and place. The local train company commissioned a mildly popular video that used the animation technique, and ended up looking quite good.

I'm not saying all tweened animation is bad... but Sturgeon's Law really stands out here.

Yeah, it's about the same thing with GameMaker games, there are some really good looking games done with the program, especially thanks to the adaptation of scripts through GML (yes even 3d games are possible --> http://sandbox.yoyogames.com/games/208769-venture-3d-rpg - http://sandbox.yoyogames.com/games/180001-mythology - http://sandbox.yoyogames.com/games/115653-zoo-escape-3d - http://sandbox.yoyogames.com/games/201497-panther ) but because GameMaker is 'easy-to-use', especially for beginners: sturgeon's law is (unfortunately) in full force, when you start browsing you'll most likely find a bad game on the front-page without any effort. Also: most of the 'better games' are 9 out of 10 times a 'work in progress' or 'abandoned project'. =P

People are usually de-nouncing the program because of this, saying: "It's utter crap" but at the same time: a lot of underaged weeaboos on the internet are creating 'utter crap' with a 'professional-program' called Photoshop. XD
This proves that the program doesn't provide the outcome, but that the user is fully responsible for the outcome of said product... this is the same way with Flash: In capable hands you can have something 'amazing' (example: My Little Pony and that video you showed me), but from what I've learned: 'taking responsibility' is not something a lot of people tend to do, I mean parents are still blaming 'videogames' and 'violent cartoons' for their children's behaviour... aww well. =P

Parents aren't a well known source for intelligent. Most good ones would opt for making sure they can actually afford to raise a child first... which 90% utterly fail at doing. :(

Ironically, I could never understand GameMaker myself. Ended up with far more success with Mega Drive centric projects, strangely enough. O_o
