Was Sacramento, with stops in Redding & Woodland on the way down, and Lake County & Willits on the return trip. It was OK, but two things- on the return- made my whole trip: (1) I got to see a RL squirrel for the first time in my home state of California-- The only other time was on a trip to Walt Disney World, Florida, where a squirrel reached up to touch my finger! ...And (2), at a pizza parlour in Willits (a small town just south of my home county line), where the tables & seats are fixed together, almost picnic-table style, where for many years I couldn't sit normally in-- I had to sit sideways to squeeze in... Well, I sat normally for the first time in I don't know how long--- I'm actually losing weight! :)

I'm glad you enjoyed your trip. Squirrels are cute, if naturally kinda neurotic. It's good to hear you're losing weight, good luck and keep up the good work!

I'm not even trying, that's just it-- My peak was 280, and I was last measured at the Doctor's office with 252, just a few weeks ago.

This squirrel was calm, though. It kept its distance, but never ran for it, and watched me, with its tail up and in a typical poofy-squirrely hook.

Well whatever you're doing, keep it up! The squirrel probably figured you weren't a threat; the one at Disney World probably thought you had food!

Probably right on both counts.

Yarg, I know.  At the very least, you'd like to know how Moon Rabbit turns out.  The part for Payday Tomfoolery is mostly done and should end with Baksrit learning more about al-Qamar.  After that, it'll be the homestretch to the showdown, although I won't know how many parts that will take until I get there.

I'm glad you had fun on your trip.  There's squirrels in my town, but they very rarely come into my neighborhood despite all the trees.

They're not in my neighbourhood, either, as far as I can tell-- Just raccoons, skunks and opossums. I know they're elsewhere around town, but I've never seen them. Same with foxes and bears.

And yep- Gotta see how this story plays out... :) ...Which of course brings us back to the Writing Challenge-- It's been a month since the last one, and I missed three good calendar events to base it off of: May Day, Cinco de Mayo and Mother's Day. Now, with Memorial Day coming up soon, I better think of ideas, especially a species! :P

I've seen raccoons, opossums, and nutrias in my yard.  One year, a nutria had a baby under my house and a following year, a raccoon did the same for her litter.  As for skunks, I know they live in this area (roadkill can attest to that), but they don't appear to be anywhere nearby.  Also, I've seen an occasional bunny running wild, but I'm inclined to think they're escaped pets rather than wild ones.

From what I've heard, there was a mini-plague in my area that wiped out lots of squirrels and birds before I moved in, but I don't know the truth of that.  Personally, I think a combination of cats, a suburban area with uneven patches of trees, and the fact that I'm not out actively looking for squirrels most of the time is a more likely cause of the apparent lack of squirrels.
