Sometime I get so nervous

by
When i'm about to work on commission, I start thinking "aw fuck I forgot how to shade" "everything looks horrible " "is it too late to redo everything"

Dont get me started on when i'm waiting for confirmation on sketches
And when I see that pm there my heart sorta feels like it drops and my mind just goes "oh no"
But then I find out i'm worrying too much

First: Your pictures look great. :-)

Second: When someone commissions you he or she most likely did so because he likes your style. So there really shouldn't be anything to worry about.

Third: I can fully understand what you mean. Talking rational is one thing, acting rational is soooooo different. :-D

Your pictures are awesome.

the third thing omg yes
I get really nervous about asking off time from work too, I mean I pretty much know my manager is gonna give it to me, but it feels like i'm waiting to have my teeth pull when I try to ask for it

and thank you ;;n; <3

I've been a big fan of your stuff ever since I randomly caught a view of one piece in my friend's favorites. Your style is so cute. I'm eager to see more! <3

Hell, I get that feeling one nearly every picture I do, and I'm just drawing it for my own benefit. o_o I rely on second-opinions from other artists whose judgement I trust very much, which gives me the confidence to go with what I have, or adapt it to look better.

Fear of not being able to meet expectations is the big reason why I've been so hesitant on doing commissions to begin with.

I can't say I can relate, for I don't do any art-except for music, that is.

I can relate, however, to never feeling that something you do is quite good enough. Any of my schoolwork, performances, and songs I write are never to par with how I want them to be. I've found out, though, that it's not uncommon, for many, many people have low self-esteem over what they do or make. All I can say, is to find something that is much worse (even if it's an 8 year old's scribbles) and look back to your own work (while only focusing on the two pieces), and think about how much better yours is. It sounds silly, but it gives me confidence and belief that I'm not the worst, and it at least it isn't that bad.

*shrugs* I kinda rambled there, but I hope that can help. ^^

you are not alone here. I know I have the same issues, and many other artists I know do as well.

I also have this thing I do where I finish a piece and post it up and then an hour later look at it and go "Shit...why did I post this piece of crap? I can't believe I missed <insert detail here>. I hate this! I must take it down and delete it and never show it again, EVER!"

Then I read the comments about how much everyone liked it...

Woo! Someone admits that I ain't the only one thinking that way!

Most artists go through something like that, doubt of self or their work. Still dealing with it as I try putting something together for a cousin to put up in a Manhattan gallery. lol

Did a rant/advisory journal a little ways back about how the most popular artists, in part, learn to balance ego and that insecurity in how they address the masses.

Myself, I choke it back and let the customer decide how good it is, even managing to explain why something looks the way it does now and then, like a hand held a certain way or a point of odd perspective that they asked for. Not so popular here, but at least I know my customers seem to like me. lol

I've got good dice for my talent checks it seems and I'm sure you do too. :3

p.s. I love the feeling of looking at any image after it's out in the world, and spotting an issue no one else seems to notice. heh

Kinda how I am with commissions too.

Even after all this time having realized that going through this nervousness holds me back, it's hard to get over something like this.
