Horrible Computer update!

Ok, so its not the hard drive. I tried it again after work today and it started, but quickly rose to 75 degrees and promtly shut down. I looked inside and saw alittle bit of heat damage on the mother board, but the scary thing was when i sprayed inside for dust, some water came out of the motherboard! "my water cooling system leaked! So yeah XD  I seriously wish there were inkbunny furs near me who knew more about computer repair. But thats what i get for living up here in da cold north! :3
It'll take me a long while to save up for a new computer, so please bear with me. I promised you all butts, but ill have to see if my phone can do the uploading.
Now on to worse news, since i now have to allocate have of my paycheck to repair costs, it means that i wont be able to commission anymore. I hope you guys can forgive me.

do i need a dozen degrees to go into PC repair or  can i get on the job training for something like that. I like working with computers but have very little experience outside the PC i built.

I got my job with no degree and no professional experience to speak of, though I was able to cite a lot of personal experience in my interview. When I started I worked in our shop on entry level stuff. Three years later, I'm second from the top, incharge of a 200 PC network internally (including VMware, Exchange, AD, etc), and I assist heavily with the high level Active Directory work for small businesses in our service area.

All it takes is a willingness to learn. You quickly go beyond putting computers together and delve into the things that make networks and systems tick.

well i would be open to learned it pays way more and it's less stressfull then a customer service position not to mention less boreing and more fullfulling.

Good luck with that. hope you can find the leak. Try draining it and removing it from the computer to make it easier. Then once reinstalled pay close attention to the fluid levels. May have to lay off the video editing or video games for a bit

I use Glycol antifreeze and that is non conductive as well as all the other liquid coolant someone used conductive coolant.

if kadm is willing to help I would trust him he knows what he's talking about. The weird thing is it's shutting of at 75 dagrees Celsius, thats warm but not hot not by PC standards. you shuldent be running into shut off issues untill you get into the 80's

unless the pc is detecting something is wrong I guess...

more impotently unless your overclocking why are you using a liquid coollent system?
Brexxie

i dont over clock and i have liquid cooling
Kadm
5 years, 3 months ago
The need for liquid cooling been seriously reduced by the drive to lower processor power usage, which results in lower operating temperatures. Most modern processors can be overclocked decently on standard air cooling, and liquid cooling is only really necessary in enthusiast overclocking. There aren't any serious benefits to be had to it anymore unless you're dead set on going with an air-flow neutral setup. You have to sacrifice space to a decent sized radiator for that though.

I do allot of pc gaming. Or well did. And I've always wanted something unique.

Max temp for most modern Intel processors is over 90 degrees Celsius, so you won't generally experience a shutdown till that point. The real thing to worry about is whether or not you're getting a CPU temp reading or an ambient system temperature reading. 75C would be sweltering for ambient temperature, but tolerable for CPU temp unless you've modified the BIOS settings to cause early shutdown.

Im not sure. I bought it two years ago from "ibuypower" and they configured it before they mailed it. It did however beep at me when it hit 75 degrees. Several times actually.  I think it was pissed at me. Also the water cooling unit sounded like it was dying a day before.
Kadm

Next time get it from me~ The problem with places like iBuypower and their ilk are what you pay for their name. They're not as bad as say...Alienware, but there's a hefty margin built into each machine over it's raw value.

Let me know~ If you can tell me what you're running now, I can toy around with things a little bit and give you an idea :3

i run CPU temp and mine under load depending seems to be running about 60-70ish if it spikes it can get near 80 but since i cleaned it out it hasent spiked over 80.

im running a phenum II Hexicore I think it can get into the 90's but im not sure I try to keep it under or around 70 whenever i can XD

The AMD chips definitely run a little bit warmer than their Intel counterparts at this point, but they're still good hardware. Both of my servers at home run AMD hexacore chips. The i7-2700K in my main PC rarely breaks 60 degrees under 75% load, and it's a monumental effort to hit 75% load for more than a few minutes without doing so intentionally.

i think maybe mine just has old thermal compound but oi really hate removing the chip to replace it XD I get allot of mixed storys about needing or not needing to replace the thermal compund every so meny years.

how fired is the board? is it just a little crispy of did the internal connections melt too?
Is it possible to get the same board or a board with the same CPU socket?
Tycloud
5 years, 3 months ago
Its actually not to bad. It works it just heats up really fast.
RobbyFoxfur
5 years, 3 months ago
hmm any way you can use it just on air cooling again? might have to reseat the CPU cooling fan if its off a little bit that can mean some crazy results.
Kadm
5 years, 3 months ago
If you used non-conducive liquid in the liquid cooling setup, the leak shouldn't matter. I'd worry more about whether or not your thermal paste/bonding material is still working, or if there's a clog in your circulation system.

Since I'm here in NJ I'm not able help you any without being able to look at your computer. I have a diploma in PC Repair.

prufen

I mean, unless you measure the temperature with some kind of program, then it is.
prufen
5 years, 3 months ago
There's nothing wrong with your hard drive, most hard drives run hotter than that.
I mean if we're talking about farenheit.  If we are talking about celcius, then you're fucked.
