The Things I Like

by
I just wanna go over some of the things I really enjoy. n_n

Ancient Egypt

Oh yes, I just adore me some Ancient Egypt. I'm not sure when it started, exactly... I believe it was probably when I first saw one of my favourite movies, "The Mummy." Yes, that one with Brendon Fraser. Just seeing those exotic deserts and those cities, the ruins, everything! It was rather thrilling to me. Of course, now all the pictures of Egypt I ever see are dull and murky, but somewhere in me holds that fantastical vision of the deserts~

That said, the old culture fascinates me too. I loved learning about them in History class, and would be very keen on learning a lot more about them. I also got way into their Mythology (though I didn't bone up on that much either). Their Gods, Goddesses, and all that stuff... fascinating stuff! Just awesome!

Of course that brings me to my next point...

Mythology

Oh do I love me some mythology. Greek Mythology, Egyptian Mythology, Norse Mythology... you name it, I'd probably find it really interesting! I really should've gone to school for this stuff - EVEN if it has no real practical use in this day in age. I just like the stories. Some are more interesting than others, but they're odd life lessons wrapped up in tales of heroics, and Gods, and all that sorta stuff.

And there're no shortage of Myths. Every culture has their own myths. I'd be stoked to learn them all!

The Paranormal

I blame Ghostbusters for this entirely. I loved Ghostbusters as a kid, and I love it now as an adult. To me, it has aged perfectly. I loved the video game even, and there're these comic books rolling out that are absolutely amazing. Honestly, how Dan Akroyd and Harold Ramis have so much difficulty being taken seriously about that franchise is beyond me. It's as if everyone thinks the entire thing hinged on Bill Murray. How insulting! That writing was damn clever.

Honestly, that Paranormal Science bit? It's faux-science of course, but it is fascinating to listen to. To take something as abstract as ghosts and break it down into scientific method is really clever. Of course, then there's the whole bad ass part of combating and capturing the ghosts. No one could say that's easy to forget. <3

But I also like the more traditional stories of battling scores of the paranormal with more traditional methods - ghost hunters that use magic or other such super-natural means of dealing with their poltergeists. I love it all though, really. Vampires, Werewolves, Zombies, Ghosts, Ghouls, Goblins, Cyclops... Everything! I really appreciate the modern stuff that can put a unique twist on such things.

I really wish I could write something like that one day.

I'd be so proud of myself if I wrote something involving a lot of these things I love. I think if I had a dream at this point, that'd be it!

Neat stuff, neat stuff~ All the sort of topics I've lost hours and hours of days to a rabbit hole of reading up on.

Well they certainly seem interesting. Of course Yokai refer to a great number of monsters and creatures. The Oni in particular are rather menacing!

Egypt... I am something of an amateur Egyptology buff and have been fascinated with the actual mechanics of their life and works for many years. It's easy to forget sometimes that our ancient ancestors were biologically identical to us, and if raised with our own education could use our computed and planes and astronautical equipment just the same. They were just as capable as we, and they have many amazing works to show for it with the limited tools they had.

I am also a fan of mythology in general, across all cultures and in all forms. Be they fables or religious texts. Understanding the point and purpose of the things born of our collective conscious is important to understanding where we are. I also enjoy the paranormal. Cryptozoology, ghosts, aliens (mathematically likely there is such a thing, but here I mean aliens visiting Earth), magic, our modern mythology as it were. Don't believe a bit of it but it is absolutely fascinating. It's nice that our interests deeply align.

Yaaay! Yes, our interests do align, but I am probably a little less actually learned on the subject as you probably are. I really ought to pick up a book. >3>

The Ever-beloved Bullfinch's Mythology is an excellent, but rather heavy read.

I had a period where I was interested in Egypt though I was more drawn towards the Mayans for some reason.  Old cultures are pretty interesting, as is mythology.

Additionally, you might like La Mulana.  It's a retro tough platformer for wiiware and PC, it's on steam for $15.  It also touches on the whole mythology and ancient cultures thing.
