Still in Hawaii... bored (sorta, explanation inside)

It's always the little things that are not mentioned in the ads aren't it?

For example, Waikiki beach. World famous for its beautiful beach. But its hard to find a place deep enough to properly swim (at least for me). And the beautiful sandy beachy-ness ends rather soon as you get farther out. Stones and corals. I cut open a finger and my knee on the first day.
I do however have to say otherwise the beaches are awesome. Due to the matrial (ground up coral) the sand is not blistering hot even after hours in full sunlight. Every that has walked on a real sandy beach in midday sun knows what it feels like walking barefoot over molten glass.
The beaches are also kept very clean, but dicks that throw away stuff still exist.

Now here is something you probably never heard of. I learning surfing today and now my nipples hurt. I am not being touchy or anything. After 1 hour of lying flat on the rubberized surfboard my nipples have been rubbed so raw to the point they began bleeding. Now I know why many wear a fucking t-shirt while surfing.

Now to the question why I am bored. You see... I can't leave the hotel room.
1) My nipples hurt so much I can't put on a shirt. They are so sensitive even the lightest touch hurts... a lot. I tried putting bandaid on it, but those pulled and ripped on my manly chest hair. Removing them hurt a lot as well.
2) While exploring the island I got a little carried away and now have blisters on both my feet. I put on a special bandaid for blisters, which initially helped, but then it has dissolved in my sandals and fused with the wound. Took some effort to pull off... and I still got this weird glue stuck to it.

What do we learn from this. Ask for nipple protectors when surfing and wear socks in shoes even when its hot.

Oh... I went and saw despicable me 2 today. Was highlight of the day :3

Kinda reminds me of my time in Florida.  All those little things they don't tell you.
Yea yea, sunshine and beaches. Sure.
But then fire ants.
And seagulls throwing up and crapping everywhere.
And crab grass that pokes your feet.
And this lovley thing called 'red tide' that comes in every year or two and kills all the fish up and down the beach for miles, leaving everything smelling like dead fish for a month.
And the birds that get in your garbage.  (Normally you think about dogs when you hear about it, but down there its goddamn birds)

....so yes.  I feel your pain.
'Paradise' can be really nice.   ..for a while.  :D

Not sure what area you were in... I've lived in Florida since the 3rd grade and have only seen red tide once. Fire ants are unfortunately common, but easy to get rid of (they have a tendency to cover your whole leg and then all bite at the same time though; take a benadryl). I don't see a ton of seagulls in NW Florida but I don't have out at the beach; the birds were worse in the Keys and the pelicans were quite a nuisance. And be lucky you only had crab grass; fire weed is much worse, lol. Yellow fly bites hurt like horse fly bites but they make me swell up worse. And the damn palmetto bugs. >.< lol. It IS dogs that get into the trash, but they dig into it after it is burned.

And Sen. I've lived near sunny, beachy areas my whole life. Don't be afraid to wear a shirt in the water. I don't tan well. If I don't wear a shirt in the sun, all of my skin will burn and peel. Also, even though food is ridiculously expensive in touristy areas, remember the waiters, room service attendants, etc still make less than $5 an hour and the cost of living there is atrocious. xD (I work at one of those tourist-income based resorts).

Luckily my skin is more resistant. I was 2,5 hours in sun with no sunscreen and only got a little red skin on the shoulders. No peeling.
I try to tip the waiters.

Despicable Me 2 rocked!

Anyhoo, people always talk about Hawaii like it's some island paradise, but I was never very impressed with it.  The natives are rude to non-natives, the water was unusable on all but one beach, and the whole place is overly expensive.  You're totally right about Waikiki, it's basically knee-deep for the first fifty meters.  And there's a supposedly great surfing beach on the other side of the island, but it's red-flag at best, black flag most of the time, so only for pro surfers.

Hopefully you still enjoy your trip Sen, and don't attract any sharks via bleeding nips. =p

I tell you one thing...the next time I have the money to travel, I'm going back to Cuba.  Barcelo Marina Palace in Varadero - best vacation I ever had.  There's three pools, and the east-most one had a swim-up bar in the pool, plus a guy who barbequed burgers and hot dogs from about 11 to 5 every day...literally my idea of paradise.

Sounds interesting, but my next vacation will probably be England ^^

I will keep it in mind though.
