IV Antibiotics...

For about 30 minutes a day for the next 6 weeks I will have IV antibiotics dripping into my body through a PICC line.  For those of you who don't know, it is a very long tube they feed into a vein until it nearly reaches your heart and then medications are given though it.  For moe: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Peripherally_inserted_cen...

Right now I am in a lot of pain from the procedure.

Just gotta try to make it through the next six weeks with this tube sticking out of my arm.  Doesn't hurt as bad today as it did Wednesday night and Thursday morning.

I hope that it's not too uncomfortable and that it solves the problem.

Ah, love, it is not pleasant.  The hole in my body isn't that sensitive, surprisingly, except for the alcohol sting when it was being cleaned yesterday by the nurse, but that section of my arm is very bruised and tender.  Sleeping is a bit of a truck because of how back I toss and turn and the "dongle" hanging out of me.

This might be a crazy idea, but, have you considered cuffing that arm to a bedpost to try to keep you from moving about too much during the night?

The did a blood draw, but this is all tied to the cat bite and everything points to a joint infection, if not _also_ a bone infection.  They also did a hand x-ray, which verified that there were no broken teeth or bone chips.

Even after my stay in the hospital they were unable to grow a culture and determine exactly what the infection was, so they are treating "all possible" things one can get from a cat bite.  I am on some pretty strong stuff with potentially nasty side effects, so I need a lot of monitoring.

I find it fucking ridiculous that they could not find what it was and that they took so long to take it serious and even more that you had to have surgery for a fucking cat bite. >:(

What they told me at the hospital was that the ideal course of action would have been sending me to the hand specialist when I went back and the infection had spread and they added the second oral antibiotic.  The attempt to save me from hospitalization ended up making it worse and making it so that the recovery will take much longer... and ultimately failed in keeping me out of the hospital.

The infectious disease experts and the home nurse that was here tonight have all said they have seen cat bites get this bad.  I have had numerous cat (and other animal) bites in my life and nothing ever like this.

At least it's not getting amputated.
