Terrifying.

I had little hope for it being of any appreciable quality, be it writing or animation, but it sounds so much worse...

Oh, it's on YouTube now. I believe in people forming their own opinions. Would you like a link?

Could you link me?? There is no theater near me playing it.

I might have to watch it JUST for the simple fact of this... *ahem* 'interspecies relationship' I keep seeing get mentioned...

Haven't seen it. Been hearing mixed reviews.

It was ok. Humor os what it had going for it.  Oh and inter species love relationships and cameo appearances.  :3

It's GOT to be satire...

Otherwise, I really AM convinced Hasbro's whole idea of a franchise is throwing it off a cliff for money.

Like how Season three of Transformers Prime: Beast Hunters being shorter and seeming more rushed (plus lack of good toys to an otherwise promising franchise since Beast Wars and Armada... WHAT?! I liked Transformers Armada!)?

I went to see it in theaters on Saturday. When derpy showed up in the credits the theater exploded.

Derpy's definitely a fan favorite.

Its for 13 year old girls that have a fetish in collecting Bratz dolls.  Not even bothering with it myself.  I also heard Hasbro did this catasthrophe because they want their toy business to compete with Monster High.  Basically, Hasbro did the same exact thing with this horrid thing as it did with the first MLP Movie in the 80s, a 2 hour toy commercial to entice kids in buying their toys.

Nothing else is relevant in the least.

Inter species love relationships?

Well then, I guess this one was not for a family thing after all.

Yeah, it ... it... I don't even know how to start to explain this to my little sister, really. It just completely amped the "awkward" levels for me in a way I wasn't prepared for.

I've always been very thoughtful with her because I didn't want her to go through what I went through in my childhood but instead I'm watching the vicious cycle repeat itself and I feel so fucking helpless to stop it... I ... I don't know what to do anymore. I feel like giving up on absolutely everything.

I saw the movie expecting it to be at best a 6/10 or at worst the Dragon Ball Evolution/The Last Air Bender/Star Wars Holiday Special of MLP. But after seeing the movie I liked it. I gave it a 8/10, and if anyone does not like my opinion then deal with it.

OK I will "deal" with it, why are you giving it an 8 at all, care to tell us your overall review or are you just a fanatical brony of many who has no idea on how to criticize a movie other than you can't because of being a fanatic?

Such a childish way, "deal with it", makes all who type it look like total trolls.

I like how the dolls have anthropomorphic pony ears but in the movie they're human ears.

Once again

You need to actually watch the movie for this to make sense.

I'm not a huge fan of the show, but I do like it. Watched S1 and part of S2 (need to finish that sometime). Didn't really like how they looked as humans. Much prefer them staying ponies partly because it just seems like a ploy to make & sell more toys. Though I suppose this is all it's been about from the start, sadly. =/

I ... yeah, I guess you're right.

I made my own cartoons for wildly different reasons than "selling toys."

Because you care about more than just money.

I've never really had any money at any point in time, just ever the bare minimum to get by.

Sorry to hear that. I do hope things get better for you. =/

At first it was an ok comedy. Not the adventure I expected from a FIM movie.

Then the ending happened; the part where they mutate into monster-pony shits, and I nearly vomited. Man that was bad. The plot itself was dumb, but the payoff was just insulting.
It had some good and funny parts, but it's still overall a bad kid's movie.

That MLP:FIM was good was a fluke. Hasbro doesn't care about show quality, the tv shows and movies only exist to spread awareness of their toys. Whether it's good or bad, you know they're making toys of it.

The Transformers reboots were going well, and Hasbro planned to reboot My Little Pony in the same way. Lauren Faust happened to be meeting with Hasbro during that same time frame to pitch an original IP. They rejected her original IP (because of course they did) and instead put her in charge of the MLP reboot.

Hasbro let Faust do pretty much whatever she wanted, either because they knew her reputation and trusted her to do good work or because they legitimately didn't care. Since Hasbro is a large, creatively lazy corporation, I believe in the latter, which is a shame because Faust has a solid resume. The world is lucky she was there pitching something else at the right time. I believe Hasbro would have passed the project on to whoever happened to be in the office that day (imagine MLP being remade by Uwe Boll).

When the show did well, Hasbro began to provide more and more corporate interference, because entertainment industry execs are unbelievably stupid people. If you don't believe me, look at the rise and fall of the movie industry (step 1: take a risk and let creative people do their thing, step 2: make money, step 3: attempt to make creative vision into formulaic, interchangeable, risk-free crap without losing audience, step 4: hemorrhage money and wonder why, step 5: repeat as necessary).

Hasbro is ruining their own franchise because they don't understand why it's popular. My Little Pony will continue to devolve until it's no longer profitable, and Hasbro will have no idea why the interest dropped off. I didn't expect much from Equestria Girls mainly because it's such a translucent concept theft of Monster High. Hasbro wants to expand into a new demographic, but rather than create a new franchise, they're trying to use MLP's aging target audience whilst simultaneously hijacking the audience of a competing franchise. It represents a near total lack of both risk and creativity.

A corporate move like this is your advance warning that the creative people have done their part and have been pushed out of the way for a perceived moneytrain that will derail shortly. No matter how many times this cycle plays out, or how much money is lost, or how many careers are ruined in the process, the executives never learn. They are, by far, some of the most stubborn and short-sighted people on the planet. And I'm not just talking about Hasbro here, but the entertainment industry as a whole. They want to mass produce originality and creative genius, even though they've proven repeatedly that this is not possible. Or, rather, they want all of the money and attention that comes with doing something new and interesting without actually doing anything new or interesting.

I was going to comment but you seem to just have hit the nail. Two things have made me extremely upset and have nearly driven me out of the pony train: the C&D on Fighting is Magic and Season 4. The first is a show of short-sightedness from a money hungry corporation. And the second is an attempt to further milk the cow when the cow has already given out all her milk.

I'm giving the writers 4 episodes to impress me before I say "mmmnope, thanks, bye". They will likely fail because I feel that ending the series with Twilight winged unicorn is the right point where if they decide to not end and just continue they will be jumping the shark.

I intend to give season 4 a chance, as it can be either very good or very bad. Hasbro has been taking progressively more creative control, though. As much as I think DHX can keep making a good show, and as much as I feel they want to, I'm not sure Hasbro will let them. Season 2 was by far the best imo, season 3 had some good episodes even if the finale was weak, and I think season 4 still has potential. We'll just have to wait and see, and quietly hope DHX manages to sneak in some quality entertainment without Hasbro noticing.
