No stream today.

I have irreconcilable problems with my remaining hard drive. It's basically deleting pictures now, which has sent me into all new stratospheres of pissed off that it's affecting my life adversely. If I lost a picture that I was doing for one of you guys, I might just actually punch through the monitor. So! I'll be going to get a new one today. I may be back later, or I may just need the rest of today to set it up and cool off. Sorry for the inconvenience, I wasn't going to be very much fun today anyway.

Take it easy and just take the day to chill. Tech issues are infuriating, we know.

It has to do with the operating system being unstable and the hard drive being old, so sectors just completely mis-identify files that have been written to it. Basically just keep more than one hard drive, and make sure at least one of them is five years younger than the other at all times. You can be a crazy-ass and make a RAID like

Could be worse.  It could be like my old Emerson 286 IBM-compatible PC.  It had  a "whopping" 512 KB of RAM, COM1 fried the moment I turned the computer on (frying my mouse along with it, making it both the first and last regular mouse I've ever had on a PC ever), and found a way to delete just the .EXE file off of a write-protected disk.

It also decided that I had "too much RAM", and the POST eventually started displaying "512 KB RAM / 64 KB OK!", so I eventually ended up installing an entire MB into the little bastard.  Then my video card (I don't even remember was it was at the time) started glitching, and I got to play the game of "which video card does my computer think is onboard today"!

For one day, I was stuck with "CGA palette 3".  I wish I was making this all up.  I wish.

I don't think there really is anything to say.

Never buy a computer from a company that's better known for kitchen appliances.

Get your mitts on a HDD -> USB Caddy or Dock to pull what you can off it before it nukes itself then burn it.
New hard disk wise, a Seagate or a WD Blue will last you a long time.

Between my phone, my iPod and my bunch of little USB thumb drives, I've never been at a loss for ways to take files from one place to another.

That's some shit man. o-o It's never good when the hard drive starts dying.

Sorry to hear about that.  My plan for that sort of thing (assuming I ever follow through) is to have data backup drives that I hook up once a week or so, I figure they might last longer if they aren't constantly running like I usually have my system.  That way if either drive dies, I'll still have one copy of my files for long enough to get a replacement drive.

Tape drives do tend to be pretty good for that.

Ah the joys of hard drives. My old laptop melted it's first hard drive in less than a year (yes, melted, literally). Raid configurations can be good, if you know how to do it, but otherwise just back up your system regularly. Speaking of which, I'm due for a backup myself...

I know the feeling. My PC died 4 days ago. Dunno if it is harddrive or mainboard yet.

Shit man. ;o;  I hope all your files come out okay.

Hard drives have a tendency to work great right up until they self-destruct for no reason, so you really have no way to grab things unless you're really lucky. X_x
