Help me pick the next Riverview resident!

I've decided to commission another character from my favorite character designer, RyokoNoKalo. If you've read any of my work, you've probably come across at least one of her designs. She's responsible for both Harper and Kailee, and she also designed my fursona for me!

I was tempted to buy a new design with my erstwhile collaborators, VerbMyNoun and BlastoTheHanar, but I didn't love any of the photo palettes available.

However, she's agreed to do a design for me based on a different image I've stumbled across.

The only problem is... I don't know what it should be!

Male, female, herm? Cub, teen, adult? What species?! Who is this as-yet uncreated person?!

So, I thought I'd ask for help from my watchers! If you'd like to weigh in on what species you think this new character should be, PLEASE participate in my species poll! (link below) I'd also love any other input you have on gender, age, and details, just comment. Heck, if I like your ideas enough, I might let you name them, too. So please, weigh in! If you vote in the poll, I'd really appreciate an accompanying comment on this journal!

Please vote in the poll here!

As posted in the journal, a red panda would fit the color palette quite well; as for age and gender, perhaps late teen to early thirties, (you don't seem to have many characters in that age group) possibly local college graduate, perhaps female or herm, but male would be interesting too.

Thanks for the feedback! From some talks I've been having, I believe a red panda family will be making an appearance in Riverview quite soon. Any suggestions for a name for a female or herm? (Just one please!)

Jasmine, perhaps? Something floral would be nice, so she/shi could then subvert the stereotype and have a tomboy streak.

Okay - convoluted reasoning active:

First off: man, I never considered using a photo of a nebula as a base for a character. There are some sweet shots out there, and that observatory has some lovely pictures.

Now I am going to suggest herm for the character, not because I happen to like herms, but more because of your choice of image. the nebula in question was misidentified as six different objects when it was discovered originally, so it has six different catalog numbers. Now baring a character that happens to shapeshift or has a multiple personality disorder, a herm at least incorporates some of that multiple nature.

Now there are two ways to go with choosing the species. I prefer the -what sounds cool- method, so whatever seems right is good. :)

The nebula in question is part of the Carina constellation, so named because it looks vaguely like the keel of a ship. It is a part of the older larger constellation named after Jason's Argo, so perhaps some sort of nautical themed animal. I know you have otters, so I will not suggest a sea otter, but perhaps something else related to water. Seals, or walrus perhaps.

Then again the nebula is in the Sagittarius arm of the milky way, so something like a horse will give you the centaur theme that comes with that. Or go something found in greece, as you have the tales of the Argonauts and Jason, plus the concept of the centaur there. And with six catalog numbers, they can be their own greek chorus. (god, took me five minutes to remember the proper spelling of chorus).

(just an interesting image that kind of matches the colour scheme that I saw on the Sagittarius page. http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/6/... ).

Now that silly me actually checked out the poll, let me throw in my vote for the Genet. Interesting critter, that very well could match the greek theme I was mentioning in my above post. Plus I love me a sleek animal. I have an inordinate love for the fisher myself.

Age: Timeless, yet locked perpetually at a single physical age? Nah, too mystical. :)

Genet seems to be a popular choice! Thank you for putting so much thought and effort into your response, I really love the ideas you came up with. As far as the age comment, I do try to keep the mystical/fantastical elements out of my world. "But furries!" some have cried. Yes, furries. But furries in the real world :)

Do you have a name suggestion? (Just one please!)

A weird suggestion, but while flipping through a bunch of art on another site I saw a picture of a girl with the name of Marina. Fits the nautical theme there.

Seems like you've got a lot of female characters in your setting already to choose from...so I'd go with herm or male. I personally like the herm stories that you and espy/verbmynoun  have been writing, so I'd vote for herm.

As far as species go...You've got a lot of felines and canines already in the setting, so I'd go for something a little less common. Perhaps an avian?

Ironically, many of the females, felines, and canines in my setting belong to others, not to me. I kind of worry I'm overloading on herms. But, herms are by far my favorite to write, so maybe I'll just stick with that ;)

Thank you so much for your feedback--do you have a name suggestion? (Just one please!)

Names are a tricky thing. Responsible parents would, I assume, pick a gender neutral name, or a name that could easily changed to be more masculine or feminine. Anything on this list would work:

http://www.babynames1000.com/gender-neutral/

However, if you've got a family like Megan's from "The Bat and the Cat" by VerbMyNoun / Espy, then you might have a dominant parent trying to influence the child through the choise of a gender-biased name. The psychological impact of such a thing certainly might be something to explore, as VmN did with Wendell / Wendy in his first story. On the other hand, I happen to like in-depth stories that focus on characterization and interaction rather than short erotica stories...but that's just me. I'm sure there are lots more people who prefer a short story to fap to.

I voted for ferret. Haven't seen one of them on inkbunny yet. I would have to say male, maybe 17 for age. He'd be a nice addition to the female cast you have going on.

It's really looking like the lithe and long options are dominating (Ferret and Genet). I'm not sure if I would have the motivation to focus on a male protagonist. We'll see! Do you have a name suggestion? (Just one please!)

Hmm... I love the name Jason.

I like mice :) and the herm's are interesting but maybe a boy with girl parts perhaps? I have yet to see them in your stories. Perhaps a boy trying his hardest to hide it? And he gets found out and it gets spread around the school and stuff..Just an idea :) and maybe the same age as Harper and that lot :) Good age for confusing life changes to happen.

I like mice too! Don't worry, there'll be a new mouse coming to town VERY soon. As far as femboys/m-herms, etc... I've never really been a fan. It's not even (entirely) the anatomy. I just have a harder time writing the male persona. We'll see... maybe sometime!

Thanks so much for your feedback, too! Do you have a suggestion for a name?

Welll hmmm for a girl? I like Cassy...or Meeshi if you want a non normal name. That is a horribly miss spelled verson of Meishi (I spelled it wrong when I used it and it stuck :)) it is Japanese for "Name card" which is why I thought it would be funny as a name for a character. If you happen to like it you are more than welcome too it :)

Also I am more than happy to give feedback. I love your work It has feeling that is well there for you to pick up on when you are reading. So you tend to worry about the characters ad such I like that kind of power in a story...wish mine were half as good lol.

actually would like to see you have a male character for a change. You seem have plenty of other two already.
