thoughts on xbox one confrence.

so i saw xbox's new conference. besides titan fall and killer instinct, i don't see much anything else interesting. again there doing a great job showing off games but besides that, they completely avoided talking about anything related to all of the new xbox 's only online, additional fees, always having the kinect on, price of the kinect, price of live, price of online tv , etc.  then most of the games they showed were trailers that were pre rendered. i would give them props for titan fall, but its by ea and will be multiplatform. again kudos on showing only games, but they've used it more as a distraction to me. i would rather know what i'm paying for and the way your network works as well as you showing me games. then there is the systems price. 500.00 that's a decent price but you still have to keep in mind that the system is a lil useless with out the kinect which you must buy separately. not only that, you have to still pay for your used games and  your xbox live account.. still just don't know....

im hoping sony doesnt do the same. and please sony, no more charts about sales. i rather a in depth explanation of your system instead of another chart showing sales....

it IS pretty nice of them to install a webcam thats always on and always connected to their servers with every xbox.

Ever since finding out how ALL the cell phone companies and MOST of the internet provides are handing over your information to the government whenever they ask(call history, browsing history and etc), it's AMAZING to me how people are willing to now bug their own homes.  They dont need warrants anymore, because everyone is bugging their own homes voluntarily.

lol right. yeah ISP's have been doing that since aol days. im like you, i know i cant to much about there monitoring, but i would rather not make it easier for them by having a camera in my house that they can access at any time and must always be on.

The Xbox One isn't always-online. But it DOES require checking in once a day online, otherwise you can't play your games.

The Kinect can't be disconnected, or at least, the Xbox One requires it.

It is, in effect, always on. Since lacking an internet connection, or having  a bad one, removes the ability to use the console for games.

There is a distinct difference between requiring a daily license check to make sure you're allowed to play your games (what the Xbox One is doing) and getting kicked out of your game if your Internet connection goes down for two minutes (what Ubisoft was doing) even if it's single-player.

I'm not defending Microsoft, I have no intention of giving them money for the product they're trying to convince people to buy. But it's important to have correct information.

I think Microsoft is aiming to pull a Sony/PS3 launch and just utterly bleed money for three years and flail around while the rest of the gaming industry and the Internet laughs at them.
ShadowsInc

if it doesn't get internet during the daily check though, it bricks itself for the day. So what's the point of having it, if you can only play games like half the time or so.
elix

Until it can reach the Internet. I haven't seen anything where it says that it only checks once daily, and if you fail that check, you're boned for 24 hours. Instead, will only let you play games unless it's seen the Internet in the last 24 hours. As soon as it DOES reach the net, the timer starts over. I would imagine that if your Internet went out for a day and a half, as soon as you got back online, the Xbox One would be fine.

" they completely avoided talking about anything related to all of the new xbox 's only online, additional fees, always having the kinect on, price of the kinect, price of live, price of online tv , etc.
It's because the Xbox One is the ONE device for all your entertainment needs! ...And they didn't want to talk about all the bad shit. That doesn't sell systems, silly.

" i would give them props for titan fall, but its by ea and will be multiplatform.
I give props for being multi-platform because 'exclusives' are not for the benefit of consumers. But no props for being published by EA. I won't support that company.

" 500.00 that's a decent price but you still have to keep in mind that the system is a lil useless with out the kinect which you must buy separately. not only that, you have to still pay for your used games and  your xbox live account.. still just don't know....
I don't think $500 is a decent price considering what you're getting. Sure the hardware is okay (Kinect comes with because it's required to be plugged in for the system to work), but with so little control over your games (limited gift/resell) and they're still asking for full price. Steam has worse DRM but often have sales that provide a single-user price for a single-user purchase.

" im hoping sony doesnt do the same. and please sony, no more charts about sales. i rather a in depth explanation of your system instead of another chart showing sales....
My prediction; Get ready to be disappointed.

As a pc games exclusive are a must. its the only reson i play a console. I can eyes play like 90% of stuff on my pc already. i see what there tying to do but the ability for other people to play your games, downloadable games, and only online once a day shoulder be features or pulses, that should be standard. the plus of having a console is pick up and play. so far they have made that complicated.

I think I get what you're saying, it needs to be simple because that's the main gripe about a PC is it's maintenance cost and learning curve. On a side note, I'd like to see a list of alternative games for each and every 'exclusive' on consoles. I bet PC has something that more or less covers every interest. I bet it wouldn't be to hard to do considering the extensive library available. X3

I agree with this. Its sad to say but if sony goes big and caters to gamers not entertainment they might deal a major blow to microsoft.

I think the PS4 is winning over gamers pretty well with this reveal. The only people that MS is going to have on-board are the exclusive (halo/forza/etc) fanatics. I wonder where Nintendo fits in on any of this. I mean Nintendo has the most console-like console out on the market. They may be in their own market while Sony and Microsoft battle it out.

nintendo plays safe as usual. Id honestly like nintendo take a more mature stance on some games. but playstation blew it all away. plus their instruction video helped :P

I'm pretty sure that Sony will have everything Microsoft fans want, for the most part. As long as they're not hung up on names (like "Halo") they'll find something to enjoy I'm pretty sure. Personally I'm interested to see how Steambox & OnLive will do. They're both different takes on PC gaming, one is an actual computer the other just streams from the cloud. As for Nintendo, all they have are their own brand names (exclusives). I sort of don't blame developers for not wanting to develop for it due to the massive differences between PS4/Xbone and WiiU. Though after watching some Nintendo E3 vids I got a massive Smash Bros & Mario Kart hard-on. Good thing the hardware is the least expensive out of the 'next-gen' (if you'll allow WiiU to be included in that tier). As far as 'mature' stuff, I don't really mind. It's Nintendo, I'll give them a pass because their candy-coated style has always been there.

im not a real big pc gamer but it is interesting how they will move it to cloud powered. Honestly after watching im more sold on playstation than anything else. you are right in saying on console exclusive nuts will b the only ones who give it a chance. and when destiny jumps ship and shows their premier for ps4 its a bad sign for xbox.

Amen to the smash bros boner XD

Actually the more I think about this I really do hope there's enough die-hard Xbox fans to keep it alive because competition is good. The only reason Sony is doing what they're doing (lower prices, etc) is because of the competition that Microsoft provides. I hope that it doesn't do too well, though, so they'll drop all the shitty DRM and go back to being a console. =p

You're not a PC gamer because you prefer sitting in front of your couch with a controller. Steambox and OnLive will behave like that as well, actually. You may not be a big PC gamer now, but there will be viable options in the near future that may change your stance on that. Always liked Smach Bros, but Mario Kart 8 looks pretty slick as well. I just hope it's designed better than the broken Double Dash and underwhelming Mario Kart Wii.

the third thing you said, you actually can't trade or sell Xbox one games, or previous games, also, you will have to pay AGAIN for old games, in order to play them.
and the fourth thing, Playstation is a lot more indy oriented than that, they provide fair and reasonable thinking and (for the most part) cater more to the people than microsoft. (that is if you're talking about that. If it's the chart thing, I wouldn't know XD)

The Xbox One website says:
" Give your games to friends: Xbox One is designed so game publishers can enable you to give your disc-based games to your friends. There are no fees charged as part of these transfers. There are two requirements: you can only give them to people who have been on your friends list for at least 30 days and each game can only be given once.
So while you can't simply trade them into a common game store you can make personal transactions and resell your game. That's more than you can do on Steam, currently, yet most people on PC didn't really seem to give a damn. But what did you mean that people would have to pay to play their old games?

Xbox always online is a must make sure your system is legit once every 24 hours by connecting to the servers. Its in a low power state only listening for the words "xbox on". There were a few exclusives i liked but i think id only buy it for titan fall and halo. Im disapointed im glad im switching to pc i own a ps3, xbox 360, wii, and pc yet i find the best for game support so untill they prove they deserve my money pc is where ill be.

Exactly. you would think having a continuous internet connection would be standard now days but not everywhere has internet or reliable internet. what if i took my xbox to a hotel and didn't want to pay for internet. what if there is a outage my area for several days, what if i don't wannapay for the internet for a month cause i can't afford it, etc.

Man, I'd just use my PC and play PC games. Why buy into a monopoly?
DraculJOSHI
5 years, 6 months ago
ehm... monopoly as in Microsoft? The biggest PC business in the world...

honestly, every Windows PC gamer buys as much into them as an XBONE user >.>

thanks, I rather stay with Nintendo which makes plently of fun games... usually around 2 years into a console's lifecycle, but you get used to that. ^^ (especially since they always find something to make your waiting time fun... such as the possibility of downloading older games you never got around to or couldn't find back when they came out.)

A PC can run more than Windows. :-) Check out some of the Linux game options on Steam.

My point works for Windows, though. Microsoft doesn't have to endorse the games you can play.
ShadowsInc
5 years, 6 months ago
it can run more than windows, but what is your "primary" OS?
GreenReaper
5 years, 6 months ago
Oh, I use Windows. I am in part a Windows programmer, even. But my point is that I don't have to run Windows on my PC if I don't want to. I have control over it. It doesn't have boot code which prevents me loading my own OS.

Heck, I even run a self-hacked kernel of Windows (otherwise it wouldn't fully recognize all 4GB of memory). Good luck doing that on an XBox without getting your soldering iron out and losing access to play any of your games.
ShadowsInc
5 years, 6 months ago
yes, but that said, more than 90% of people who use a PC, use Windows and not Linux, and is therefore inherently part of it.
yourself included really, since it is your OS.
If you think about it too, the logic doesn't really pan out either, since EVERYONE can make their OS Linux. XD

I'm with GreenReaper on this. id rather buy more games for my pc then buy this new xbox one when my connections at best are 1.5mb and for the most part useless online. i could go on for hours but i just don't want to type it all down.  XD
ShadowsInc

the only downside to that though, is that the next gen games that are coming out won't be able to run very well on middle spec'ed computers, or even the higher spec'ed ones at that. They'll be available for PC, but the graphics will be dumbed down a bit, or Gaming PC's will have to be beefed a bit more to catch up. The newer graphics and processing requirements are a bit high, and the consoles will be able to handle it because the games were made for that hardware, but current middle-higher end PC's are not. That isn't to say that there aren't custom built PC's that can't handle it, just saying one of the cons.
I agree with you honestly, there are a lot of downfalls to the Xbox one that can't constitute a reason for buying it, so I'll do the same until the bugs are ironed out and there's a severe price drop.
Wakka
5 years, 6 months ago
I agree. that is one of the down sides and my pc is built for high powered gaming but like most things new parts get old and outdated fast. but as things stand a ps4 does sounds good.
DraculJOSHI
5 years, 6 months ago
don't buy it.
please don't buy it.
don't make that mistake.
I would rather buy you a Wii U (sadly I am currently not even sure on how to eat next week, so obviously, I can't actually... but I would if I could, believe you me!)
ShadowsInc
5 years, 6 months ago
I wouldn't buy a Wii U either honestly. If it comes down to choice for next gen console, it would have to go to PS4.
DraculJOSHI
5 years, 6 months ago
I would buy a PS4 if it were not the case that I needed to replace EVERY CONSOLE from Sony I ever bought at least once! (twice in some cases). Not to mention the MANY bad cables I had with Playstations. Oh, and they also have the same inconvenient controller ever since PS1 days... it was never comfortable for 3D games to begin with and they never changed it!

I am sorry, but I don't have the money for that kind of regular repairs/replacements, I will stick with Nintendo, where I only had to exchange a console once... a gamecube... and I used that one REALLY OFTEN.
ShadowsInc

that's a personal problem, not an objective one. In my experience Sony products are just fine, and are some of the most longest lasting systems and products up there with the NES. (except for the CDs, which can get damaged pretty easy, but that's true with all CDs.)
DraculJOSHI
5 years, 5 months ago
No sony product is nearly as robust as an NES, that's technically impossible.
I speak of personal experience of a hardcore gamer. If it isn't true for you, lucky you, but sadly it is true for me.
ShadowsInc
5 years, 5 months ago
Robust? the NES is a VERY simple construct, and like the SNES (but to a lesser degree) outdated even at the time it came out.
DraculJOSHI
5 years, 5 months ago
exactly! That simple construction make it much more robust towards heat/cold damage, Impact and breaking of wires. The smaller and more complicated electronic pieces are, the less likely they are to last a long time.
ShadowsInc
5 years, 5 months ago
simple is the opposite of robust XD
I agree though, the construction was very good. That said, I've never had a problem with a PSone, and PS2, or any Playstation product, and in fact, are being sold faster and more frequently at Play N Trade than the NES and SNES, meaning they get more wear and tear, but still work great. Same with the Dreamcast, that thing was a beast (in terms of sound structure)
DraculJOSHI
5 years, 5 months ago
no, simple is the opposite of complex. Fragile is the opposite of robust.
