OK so WTF happend to us? (movie rant?)

SO im watching the Rugrats movie, like the first one, as of the writeing of this journal and inside the first like 20 minuts there at least 2 penis jokes and a kid you not, a LITERAL fountain of baby pee that makes a rainbow....and this all happens during a musical number.

I dont remember this from when I was a kid but i think i actually skiped the movie. That being said....as weird as the moment was...I think i liked it...I think I liked it because you couldent DO That today.

you cant make animated movies like you used to, it's some serious mel brooks shit man, i MISS all these old cartoons.

it's not the first time they had a joke like that...

oh i know but it's usually a little less blatant =p honestly it's refreshing I allways liked the show but watching the mvoie all these years later has reminded how drasticly animated cartoons have charnged and if you ask for me not for the better. this other stuff had more fun, ALLOT more fun, allot more adventure and if there WAS a moral lesson, it was learned through the charicters and not through haveing it beaten over your head a thousend times X3

That was like the first episode that was banned from the air as a kid, that I could remember. X3

i wondered what happened to it I remember watching it like twice on nick and then suddenly it was just GONE cant find it ANYWARE! wich is realy crappy becouse that episode like ALLOT of the rugrats material was based on actual real life early childhood. Most kids go through a phase like that when there very little.

Oh, yes you can. Just watch shows like Adventure Time, with pee, poo, and fart jokes every episode. If anything, you can get away with a whole lot more now than you could back then.

yeah but most of that just comes off as crude where with some of the older stuff it was a little more subtle and clever. =p

still not all of todays animation is crap adventure time is good so is reguler show and I do like gumball and gravity falls. They lack something missing from 90's animation though.

I remember watching that as a kid, got into an argument with my sister about that scene because she thought those steams were from baby bottles. But we all know what was going on there,

Stuff goes under the radar a lot, but now soccer moms go insane the moment an adult joke is mentioned :/

It sad really cos that where lots of the comedy and entertainment came from/

I recently rewatched that movie a month ago x3 so many jokes you missed as a child (like the penises of course, though then I thought the pee fountain was gross XD)  Though personal taste I liked the Rugrats in Paris movie a lot more.

Like everyone else pretty much said, you can't get away with those kinds of jokes in kid shows anymore.  It's what made those movies not as much of  a nightmare to watch for the parents who had to watch with their kids.  Soccermoms and mom groups will flip shit if they see something 'innapropriate' for their pwecious babu.

used to be, and I know this because I'm old enough to remember first-hand, something adult gets mentioned, a silent look at the kid to see if anything registers.  if the kid looks confused, or still waiting for the punchline, just let it pass.  if the kid says "what does <repeat the bad word> mean?" the response is 'I'll tell you later' mostly because it actually is a lot to say, and if the kid remembers to ask again, 'that's something you're not old enough for.'  if they keep asking, the vague definition is given.  past that, nope, I'll tell you later.  in a few years.

no going nuts over it, no freaking out at the bad language, no cluing the kid in to . o O (why are my eyes and ears covered?  what was just on the screen...I gotta rent this later, figure out what I'm not supposed to see right after...that happened.)

I vaguely remember seeing E.T.  In the theater.  Yeah, thirty plus years ago.  "I bet he's from Uranus"  (whispered to my father) what does Uranus mean? 'I'll tell you later.'  I went back to watching the movie, when I left I remembered I asked about something, forgot what, when I saw that scene again many years later, 'oh yeah, that's the word...wow, yeah.  I was too young.'

This is why I call him M. Night SHAME-alan. Cause he brings shame on the human race with his terrible movies. And the source material was just so good -.-

I prefer M. Nite SHAMalot cause he's been nothing but a sham since he released *in my opinion* The Village. It's pretty much been all down hill since for him as far as I'm concerned. And the worst thing is HE DOESN'T SEEM TO BE LEARNING FROM HIS MISTAKES!!!!!!!!

Not so much with animated, you just have to know where to look and I'm not talking adult animations either.
Live action movies however. Watch the first superman movie. or youtube "Superman penis won't get away with this today", I made a clip.
Anyway, less than half an hour in you see a kid, full on nude. obvious penis and all X3

As long as there are censors and that adults are making kid shows, the creators will find ways to sneak in 'adult humor' that usually gets over the heads of censors and children.  Another two shows that were big for sneaking in adult stuff were Animaniac's and Rocko's Modern Life.

I recently re-watched a bunch of Animaniacs from back in the day. I can't remember when I laughed so hard. Outrageously funny stuff.
Talespin was a huge favorite as a kid. The opening credits alone involve a drag performance and multiple attempts to machine gun a child. There are some things you really can't do in cartoons anymore.
